TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK: How to sketch a face at any angle (Up and Down)

This week we are sketching faces angled both up and down. I received a number of requests for this when I was doing a series of tutorials on portraits a couple of months ago.

Please choose your favourites from the above image. If you could vote for about 2 from the 'down' angle and 2 from the 'up' angle that would be great.

FEATURE UPDATE: Patreon exclusive community chat! (Share your sketches)

We can now chat together, share sketches, ask questions and encourge each other on this learning journey! Patreon has just released a new 'app' for smart phone or tablet.

There are already a number of amazing people connecting in the chat right now. Download the app and introduce yourself in the 'chat' group where you can find like minded people to share thoughts and questions. The second group is called 'gallery' which is where you can share photos for your own work and see what everyone else is sketching.

I'll be participating in the chats but will keep my focus on individual detailed feedback in emails for now (sketchingscottie@gmail.com). In future I might start a third chat group for feedback from me but I'll see how it goes. Thank you for everyone who has been bravely trying this new feature out! 🙌🏼

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Week Starting 16th October: Fundamental Watercolor Wash Tutorial

Week Starting 23rd October: Urban Sketching-Perspective Fundamentals

Week Starting 30th October: Sketching crowds of people (Simplifying, Coloring etc)

I like the downward facing that still have the eyes visible. The upward facing ones were more similar. Any of them would be good practice. I find the 3/4 view harder than the full side view or face forward views. Thank you for asking! By the way the chat and gallery feature is really fun! It is great to share art and questions with fellow participants.

Lorna Graham

Looking forward to doing these (one of my favourite tutorials) ☺️

Dan Misson

3, 5, 8 and 12. I haven't attempted loose face drawing yet... Ekk

Rick Morris

1, 5, 8, 11, really looking forward to this video Scottie. Hope you enjoyed your vacation with the family.

Johanne

2,6,8,11 I couldn't choose more than one 🥴

Betty mounce

Should have a follow up video with the next highest up and down view .

Peter Johnson

5 addresses the angle of the face as well as drawing fingers.

Ally Noormohamed

It would be good to learn the fundamentals with any of them to be able to draw all of them! Thanks, Scottie.

Michael Egede-Nissen

7 is the one that is truly unique. The others are generally 3/4 up or down, with the exception of two profiles.
