From the beginning I've had a problem drawing an outline and pretty much just don't do it anymore. In theory I get it, but whenever I try to fill in the outline, it doesn't work. The outline is too large, too little, etc. I seem to do better starting at the head working down and comparing each part for proportions. It clearly works when you do it, but I think I didn't receive that particular gene. :-)

I agree beautiful family! For me the hardest part is embracing mistakes. As soon as I draw a line that I don’t like I want to throw the sketch away and start over. It is hard for me to to just embrace it and let the mistake become part of the sketch, but I am working on that.

Accepting mistakes is the hardest. That is why I like to use pencil not pen. I do realize that starting with pen commits you to the sketch as is and allows you to add color quickly. I prefer to like the sketch more than be fast at sketching.

Scottie almost always draws without any reference, pencil sketch, for example. The most challenging thing for me is starting to draw without any reference. Many times I begin, but I can't figure out how to proportion things, and most of the time, I end up making a mess.

Karen

I’m a beginner, so I’m still trying to break my habit of short pencil-like strokes and keeping my wrist locked with new grip on pen. Proportions still are difficult but know it will all come together in time and practice, thanks to these in-depth tutorials.

What a nice Christmas picture of your family! I really would like to yell at the people I try to sketch " stop moving"

It's a bit late, must be bixing day for you already, but still, Merry Christmas

Sketching People is a callenge for me. For me it is difficult to copy the details. So my opinion: hold the sketching very loose and have fun - otherwhile take a photo. That make it much easier to embrace mistakes.

Thanks Scottie. Love your videos. Wishing you and your beautiful family a healthy and prosperous new year. Thanks again Glenna

Proportions for me Scottie but it’s getting better. Love the photo of you and your beautiful family. Hope you all have a wonderful break 🎄

I’m really enjoying your lessons. I really enjoy the dot method for the major joints, and the 4 point method for the face. But why don’t you consistently use it? Often you constraint to silhouette, perhaps you do this subliminally, but for us beginners….. thanks

Is there supposed to be a link from “TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK:  Quick People Sketching Challenge (Line Drawings)” ? I can seem to find a link anywhere on page for the tutorial. Am I missing something? Thanks
