This series was really great, guys. Kind of a tangent, but I was reminded while doing some reading afterward of The Herald of Free Enterprise, a cross-channel ferry that sank half a mile offshore in Belgium about a year and a half after the last Brabant Killers attack. It sank immediately in the harbor after nobody shut the main door because various crew members all thought someone else was going to shut it. I remembered reading this in a book about shipwrecks as a kid and being struck that 193 people could die in such a dumb way. Reading back now, the official inquiry also took wider aim at the company’s internal culture and poor ship design (making the ship’s name even more apropos). Unrelated afaik (and technically it was a British ferry), but I imagine to many Belgians it may have felt like just one more WTF thing feeding the sense of malaise in the ‘80s.
