Nothing like waking up and munching box to a new ghost stories episode!

Divad Kong

It's crazy that everybody in the time travel hypothetical wants to kill Hitler, but nobody ever goes for queen Victoria. If ever there was a pussy that birthed more evil I can't think of it

Just read Césaire last month for the first time - now this. Ghostboy does it again untying all the evil knots through time and space. 💥👻

I'm loathe to do this, but in the future, it'd be nice if the jumps to historical footage was faded in a little more. As they're mixed into this episode, each jump has a jarring change in volume. Other than that, great episode, thanks for coming out with this

I am gonna go with the Virgin Mary. Just think of all the strife we could have avoided if we stayed polytheists maintaining purely transactional relationships with our gods and goddesses

You're really excelling yourself with this series, thanks for all the deep research, effort and preparation you so clearly put into these episodes. Wonderful jump scare at the end, guessed the twist but was still left salivating for more.

Matt: did you know Umberto Eco wrote a gladio book called Numero Zero in the early 90s? I did not until the last 48 hours. Very short but had the gist, including Cardinal Cody. I met Cardinal Cody's daughter in the same timeframe. Pass.

'Wizard of the Crow' by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o 2006 "A landmark of postcolonial African literature, Wizard of the Crow is an ambitious, magisterial, comic novel set in the fictional Free Republic of Aburiria. Ngũgĩ dramatizes with corrosive humor and keenness of observation a battle for the souls of the Aburirian people, between a megalomaniac dictator and an unemployed young man who embraces the mantle of a magician. Fashioning the stories of the powerful and the ordinary into a dazzling mosaic, in this magnificent work of magical realism, Ngũgĩ reveals humanity in all its endlessly surprising complexity." Billy Woods 'History Will Absolve Me' "The classic full-length album from billy woods, the Zimbabwean-Jamaican-by-way-of-Brooklyn rapper, who delivers a fragmentation grenade of an album. An explosive riot of bitter invective, evocative lyricism and daisycutter beats, a solid hour of hardboiled anti-nostalgia" The Magnificent Cake https://youtu.be/mEN_uwQG-Wk?feature=shared "Five narratives set in colonial Africa in the late 19th century tell stories about a troubled king, a middle-aged Pygmy who works in an upscale hotel, a failed businessman who goes on an expedition, a lost porter, and a young army deserter." Billy Woods 'Aethiopes' "Never told the truth in your life? Can't start now Ever so slowly, slowly locked up in your own house"

What a brilliant ending, great work brother

Awesome ep. as always. This is my second listen thru. These have ultimately relistenability because of how coherently you present everything and regardless, how confusing it still all can be upon a first listen. Almost like rereading really good books. The myriad names, the re-naming of the same places, or things post- scandals. The multiple names/pseudonyms of some people. On and on. Always catch something new when I re listen to these. Alright enough butt kissing! Kind of unrelated, but one of the main creators/producers of the show "the venture bros." is named, or goes by the name, 'doc hammer' which seems strange, considering... Anyhow...

Hey Matt - revisiting this post because I stumbled upon a book you (or Nic) might be interested in as it deals with the memoryholes of Belgium’s colonial history. You might already know it though: Lewis, Nicolas “Colonial tales, trails and traces - a critical guide to understanding Belgium’s colonisation of Congo and how it continues to reinforce racist stereotypes”, Luster 2022 Not the same Nic I suppose. Its looks like a good read and Ill try to get you a copy if you want. Cheers
