Hi everyone!

I finished my video Compensation. It's about work and time and stealing. I’m putting it here so you can watch it but I’m feeling a bit conflicted about what to do with it beyond that, I feel like there are two options and I haven’t decided yet which road to go down.

The first option is to treat it like an art video.

Apply for it to be screened in real life at artist film screenings, and shown in shows. This has an ephemeral, commentless vibe that appeals to me (and is good for the old CV). The downsides are that it does create more work in terms of having to apply to things and then have the possibility of the application not being successful, and it’s just generally harder for people to be able to watch it.

The other option is Youtube.

This would be great for accessibility as it's online and it also has the potential to be put in front of random internet people which is cool but also slightly intimidating. It feels low pressure and there’s no application barrier to entry. I want to make more videos so Youtube does make sense to me but the main thing that’s making me nervous is that if I put it on Youtube or anywhere more publicly available than here then I have to accept the risk that anyone (including my boss) could see it.

I don’t know quite how negatively the video reads, and there is a degree of blending other peoples stories and thoughts in there too, muddying the waters, it’s definitely more of an art video than a documentary about that specific workplace. But it still worries me a little.

I’m leaning towards Youtube, but maybe I’ll give myself some more time to think it over first.

Opinions on this are very welcome though!

Thanks!

Update! This is no longer the finished version! I have ended up doing a couple more rounds of editing in order to get it ready for a screening at the ICA! more information on this in the not too distant future.
