Max is like...a superhero. What you watched previously could be considered the origin story in the first movie, expanding his legacy in 2, and mythologizing him in 3. Same universe, same character, same everything -- just a new adventure.

I am the walrus

Watching this movie was the greatest experience I've ever had in a movie theater and it's not even close.

There's so much we don't know about the who, what and why of it all - one of the things we do know for sure is it is set decades after Beyond the Thunderdome. There's a lot of theories but it doesn't seem like an accident - if you're saying it's the same character but different actor then why set it so much later. If you're saying it's a reboot there's all sorts of reasons to not do it like that. There's this somewhat plausible theory that it's somebody who knew Prime Max, was with him when he died and took up his identity, something like that. There's another theory that it's actually the kid with the boomerang from MM2, don't know if I buy that one. I don't think it really matters and I'm pretty sure that's what Miller is saying by not saying. Yes, it is the same actor who played Toecutter - but I'm almost certain he's playing a different character, because again nothing really lines up right. It's possible it's the same character and he's sort of set himself up here, but I don't think it makes a lot of sense. You're right, though, they are bad, especially Elvis Presley's granddaughter, which I love the irony of - the music Tom Holkenborg is most normie-famous for is his remix/reedit of A Little Less Conversation, she's co-staring in this, he's doing the sound track, it's kinda a cool little match up. It's a great movie, actually a bit of a cultural phenomenon for a while there -- we got prequels/spin-offs and another TH Mad Max movie coming which is great. STRONGLY recommend the making of stuff for this movie, these guys were super dedicated to making this movie look good and there's some great stunt sequences. Oh, and the Toecutter/Imortan Joe actor passed away after this movie was released, it was actually the last movie he made. There's an insane amount of movie trivia with this movie too which is worth reading about, both good and bad, with regards to production things.

I read what George Miller said about the characters in this film on a press release. He said he has extensive back stories for each. He said the blind guitarist (Coma-Doof) was born blind and his mother knew he would not survive in this world, so she took him deep into a mine where she knew he would thrive. She also had a guitar and he learned how to play it. One day he was heard playing by Immortan Joe and was found clinging to his dead mother. Coma removed his mother's face and wore it as a mask to honor her which is what is on his face throughout his time in the film until near the end when it gets ripped off. George Miller said he believes Coma survived and will make a come back in future films. :) Fun fact about the guitar: George Miller told the prop guys he wanted a guitar that shot out flames, they made him one that didn't play and he told them he wanted one that would play and do the flames, so they went back and made one and the actor playing Coma is a real musician named "iOta" who actually played during the scenes. LOL The red headed girl/wife actress is married to iOta in real life.
