Loosely based on Oliver Stone's experiences in Veitnam, ...the characters are based on people he served with throughout his 2 tours over there. The behind the scenes stuff that goes with this movie is wild. they put all the actors through bootcamp... wore their asses out then started filming so they looked and felt like a jungle army. they also filmed it in sequence... and as characters died - the actors left and went home back to the states. they started with close to 30 and they all bonded. and by the end there was only a few of them left.
