I am under a lot of pressure to outright remove a lot of the racist comments from Gilgamesh story. I think it is a very essential part of his character that his modern values are essentially very skin deep and slip as soon as he is under pressure. I think removing this just makes him a bog standard angry dude. What do you guys think? For the love of #$%, he is meant to be the bad guy.

Just add disclaimer to the story that opinion of a character is not an opinion of an author for special snowflakes . BTW, even you bend the knee it will be never ending process

At the moment they want me to categorize the racism [like what they do at polite dinner parties] e.g all the X people I know, seem to be OR What I have experienced from X culture is.... It is just so insipid.

Keep it

To be very direct about it. This is a grim-dark fantasy. Like 40k. To remove or buff over the racism and darkness of the Mc is to change the story.

The character Gilgamesh can be racist, sexist, whatever…he’s a villain so duh. But the story and world building you’ve done as an author is beautiful and it’s clear you’ve done your research on a multitude of cultures. Also, following the logic of the editors, should you remove any mentions of murders/theft/manipulation done by the MC, as that’s also a sensitive topic?? This wouldn’t be a story about a villain anymore 😂😂

Also, has to be noted that these are races of people that don't even exist. And note 2, I am writing this from the position of having received, not inflicted, a bit of racism from my life experiences. [nothing too crazy but enough to draw inspiration from]

That is what I am genuinely afraid of. The last thing i want him to be doing is hugging fairies and fur creatures.
