Should I get down to making a map for my story? The only problem is that if I do do a map, everything gets set in stone, not to mention that it would be a MASSIVE spoiler.

Probably depends on if it's helpful for you. I don't mind maps for novels, but i rarely look back to them anyway. Though if there is a lot of international politics it could be useful, seeing where all the places are relative to each other

The problem is, the map itself is a spoiler and will strip a big bit of mystery from the world itself. I can message you with the spoiler if you like for your genuine opinion.

I mean sure. I haven't caught up on Gilgamesh's books yet though, so I might not have a useful opinion if it's for that one. The spoiler that is, unless It is a spoiler for both. But idm

I don’t think that a map has to set things in stone. You can use it as a guideline. Or have key points that must happen and in between can be flexible. Always good to at least get something out there even if it ends up changing.

If it gets to set in stone, wouldn’t that cause danger of retconing later? Whatever goes for you

It is also odd that the characters haven't encountered a map yet. Obviously, Seraphina would not care as she has the map already, but Gilgamesh should show surprise if he ever sees it.

I already had one major retcon of giving Gilgamesh a solid goal... the map is set in stone (the shape), but the various positions of the countries and places is not if that makes any sense
