Eh. They try to justify danzo in the writing, but I still dont like him. His methods and Shinobi principles border on sociopathic. Very reminiscent of zabuza. Nina's are tools and must have zero emotions etc. the end justify the means. He would definitely start the rumbling to save eldia and destroy all humanity. His ideology and methods are definitely a product of his generation. The current ninja era just doesn't have room for that philosophy anymore. Danzo because he is a lazy copeout to attribute everything shady about the leaf to a single person, so that the Hokage look good to the viewer even though they lead paramilitary states that do sabotage and assassination contracts daily. Hiruzen didn't really have time to select a successor as the 5th Hokage. Looking back at what happened, everyone was watching the Chunnin Exams, and suddenly Hiruzen was in a one-on-one battle with Orochimaru; his primary concern was battling Orochimaru. He didn't really have time to think about a successor, and he wouldn't really have the time to communicate that to anyone. He did select the 4th Hokage as his successor in the past. In the 2nd Hokage's situation, he had time to talk to his team before he left to face the Kinkaku Unit of the Hidden Cloud. The same sort of thing happened after the 4th Hokage's death, he didn't have time to select a successor (as you know, he died during the 9 Tails Attack).

Danzo used to be on site until this episode. I liked how he acknowledged that, in the end, he never truly became hokage. In name he did (at least temporarily) but not in same spirit as both the 2nd and 3rd hokage. Instead of nurturing the next generation and relying on his peers, he kept making it personal and trying to shoulder the entire responsibility onto himself.

Don't forget about Orochimaru too, who quite literally murdered children while laughing maniacally. I'm sorry, but I just can't stop hating the guy, my biggest gripe being that Naruto had no need to be isolated in the first place. This is more of a problem with the premise of the show being poorly thought out, than Hiruzen being an ass, but by how things are written, he ended up looking like an ass and a bad leader who just wouldn't give up his position despite being way past his prime.

hey guyz, yes michelle you are right ! in that danzo's backstory, there was the 2 other elders ( gramps and grandma). Also, the scene where sasuke was smiling chasing danzo inspired jujutsu kaisen. Remember when itadori was chasing mahito ? you can see madara being villain 'geto' as well. its so similar. One thing that i love about danzo's character is that he may be a hated character but you can't deny that he's a well written character. same thing with sasuke. people always say that he's a emo and a crybaby. he went through so much and whats interesting about his character is his development throughout the story ( i dont wanna spoil you lmao). Also, i dont know why people say after pain arc, naruto shippuden is boring. how can you say that after watching this arc. its goated.

I think Danzo's methods were always both morally and ethically gray, but I did always respect his motives and loyalty to the village. Like I never thought he was just straight up evil. He's just the kind of guy that always believed the end always justified the means. And that is majorly due to the era he grew up in. I mean considering Tobirama was Hokage at the time, Danzo's family died in battle, Uchiha was planning a coup d'état, and the nations weren't fucking with each other like they are now....Danzo being the way he is now, adds up. So at the very least I understand it, though I don't support the means.

Danzo literally turned villain because he FELT lesser than. Like that's it. There is nothing deep or profound about it. so most of the pro-Danzo comments is lowkey surprising to me lol. Think about Rock Lee and how instead of being resentful and bitter that he wasn't as good as the people who can use ninjitsu, he trained his butt off to be on par if not stronger than most of them and protect everyone in the village that way. Think about Pain's backstory and despite everything he went through (went through way worse than Danzo) it wasn't until he felt so helpless he went down the wrong path. Think about Gara and how far he's come, hell think about how bitter and resentful Naruto could have become given his backstory. Danzo killed an entire clan, then used Orohimaru to be able to use their eyes as a trump card when pushed against the wall, then immediately after when tsunade went into coma proclaimed himself to be the hokage, then manipulated the samurai in trying to take over the allied forces, then tried to literally take the byakugan from someone. None of it was for the village, like literally he keeps saying that but none of his actions ever benefitted the village, only benefitted him. So idk again, surprised by how quickly y'all are convinced.

Also, you forget that Danzo was the reason Hanzo betrayed the Akatsuki and forced Yahiko's death, which caused Nagato to turn into a crazy bastard. So Danzo ripipng off his arm - remember we've seen other situations when people splice other ninja cells into their body. Remember when sasuke merged with orochimaru? and the curse mark in general? The whole point of his sort of fail-safe ressurection was if someone uses up all their chakra, the dormant spliced chakra can overtake the host body. That's why the first hokages cells started going wild - because Danzo's chakra was tapped and he couldn't hold it at bay anymore

It's wild to see the 2nd Hokage sacrificing himself when Danzo and Hiruzen were so young, considering Madara was the founder of the hidden leaf along with the 1st Hokage. It adds to the suspense of what the actual fuck he looks like under that mask, considering Hiruzen and Danzo weren't even born when the village was founded, and how old they looked in the end.

Keep in mind though, Sasuke is still very much a teenager, brought up in a society that raises child soldiers (I mean, that’s basically what 12yo shinobis are) probably suffering from crazy ptsd of watching his parents brutally murdered and ultimately groomed under not one but two murderous eyeball-obsessed psychopaths. I’m not entirely convinced that Kishimoto intentionally planned out all these details for those very reasons but they definitely make sense within Naruto-verse. I personally think Sasuke’s writing is one of the best character writing I’ve seen in anime/manga, whether intentional or not.

Danzo did care about the village, but not as much as himself which is evident in not only the flashback but also when Pain attacked the village. Do you remember how he was courageously hiding in his hole while the village was destroyed, instead of thinking of protecting it he was thinking about how he would capitalize once the threat was gone. Also, respect for acknowledging your mistake regarding Itachi. It's not that serious & I know you were kind of joking but it's cool that we can confirm what really happened for you and give you the full picture for your own genuine thoughts & reaction. To add one more thing about my point regarding Danzo, really take a look at his actions & not just his words. He is a scheming politician, fooling everyone except himself. Just look at him taking all those Uchiha eyes. Only someone who really CRAVES power would do something like that, and go to that extent of letting Orochimaru experiment on him. It is a sad situation overall, but he is responsible for a lot of it.

I wouldn't count that as change... When he decided to take sasuke and madara with him, he had a few seconds of life, would have he taken that decision if had a way to escape and survive? I doubt it, but he would 100% blow up one of his subordinates if it meant taking Madara and Sasuke out, just a few moments before he was thinking of using Shisui eye to manipulate Madara and use him, there was never a hint of sacrifice in him until he was pretty much dead.

He never thought of himself as a villain though. And I think it’s far more realistic for people to be bitter or resentful as a result of their insecurity/inferiority than to be like Rock Lee lmfao. He said it himself, he was never good enough to be a leader like Hiruzen, he could only manipulate from the shadows and obviously this led to a lot of terrible outcomes but in his own twisted mind he thought it was all for the greater good of the village. This applies to the examples you gave too: - Uchiha massacre to prevent civil war - Stole the eyes and assumed the Hokage position bcs he wants power to control and shape Konoha to his desires - Tried to take Byakugan because it would be dangerous in the hands of enemy nations He’s a shinobi and shinobi by nature commit heinous crimes. No sob story, just did what he thought needed to be done. So yes, he’s a piece of shit but by no means is he a one dimensional character as you make him out to be.

The 3rd hokage did have a VP and a second in line. It was always supposed to be jiriyah. He always wanted jiriyah to be hokage. But jiriyah didnt want to be so when 3rd hokage died the village elders told him to step up and that hiruzen wanted him to be hokage but jiriyah knew that he had to find the child of destiny and train him so he recommened tsunade for hokage.

Yes, he had somewhat pure intentions towards the leaf village, but the way he went about everything and the power he lusted after, that simply isn't his the wield, even if he wanted it to protect the village is just so wrong! This is sort of why I don't love Sakura. It's not so much that she's a weak shinobi, not everyone can be a genius tactical fighter or have incredible power. She's sort of manipulative with Naruto's feelings and doesn't trust him enough or feel she can be honest with him. Just lame lol.
