Okay now you're good to watch the 3rd opening! Nico Robin's dream of finding the Rio Poneglyph serves to REALLY open up this worldbuilding even further by introducing the Missing History of the world which is part of the larger mystery of the series. Basically when Robin starts talking archaeology, keep those eyes and ears open. It's about to get SO FUCKIN EPIC.

Omg i love it you made it through Alabasta now🫱🏼‍🫲🏾. That Pell didnt die for me was the dumbbest plottwist in whole one piece for me😆. Oda once said: "If someone dies, you cant have an enjoyable party." Since Pell wasnt there for the last party with the straw hats i think oda might have a bigger plot for Pell still. BUT - Deaths accure don't get confused by that. I mean last time Bellmere was shot in front of her kids🫠 so dont think your too safe from deaths. Now we have Nico Robin what induces the whole theme of Archaeology in the One Piece world. It's as Ron said, for the Strawhats - Karoo would a better plus than Vivi. Vivi is a Princess of the Nefeltari Family so shes avout to become Queen one day since she hasnt any sisters or brothers shown in her backstory, she is the one and only hope for the country. The King's family's are a big lorepart(such as the archeological part) and they make up BIG influence over events in the world. They're like the Royal Family's in Game of Thrones. 131-143 is Filler. 144 Next Canon starts. Can't wait for next Arc♥️

Also, 131 is filler, but it's a pretty good one that's pretty well-liked, so it might be worth a watch if you guys don't mind doing a triple or whatever to not slow down progress on canon episodes. The rest of the fillers up to 144 aren't worth it, though.

You just gotta go with it guys. It’s the most frustrating part of Oda’s writing. He likes the emotion that comes with characters dying, but he hates actually killing them. So he just fakes it. A lot.

There are fillers eps 131-143! But I do recommend starting 144, but it's up to yall! But I'm sure everyone agrees that Pell should of been dead! Its just an annoying way of Oda's writing of not entirely killing characters off "one point in time" when it matters, but yea! And besides, the writing couldn't even be predicted by Oda himself, he didn't really seem himself carrying this story for a long haul stretch! Like there were times, he wanted to end it at a certain saga or part!

Pell only survived because of his Zoan type devil fruit. Zoans improve all around through physical conditioning and combat. His position and training requirements helped him grow. Carniverous Zoans are stronger than Herbivores in general. Pell being one of the best predators the Hawk is a huge find for a Zoan compared to many others.

I get what you mean about Vivi not having a "use" on the crew like the other members do, but you may have forgotten about some of what we know about her. Vivi is a pretty reliable friend, she survived in the baroque works organization for 2 years (at the age of 14) and even made it up to the 9th spot in the org which makes her pretty capable. (Strength in the org also increases the lower your number is, and we see her fight Mr 7 and Miss Father's Day to get to the bomb and they don't stand a chance against her, and this is after Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas nearly Kill Usopp) You are still early on in the series so its totally fine for you not to have all the inner workings figured out yet but "use" (the word Luffy got angry at Arlong for using in relation to Nami's skills) just isn't a determining factor in someone's position on the crew and her becoming a burden wouldn't be a mark against her either. I think you understand this subconsciously but it is also good to have the conscious realization that true friends aren't people who you keep around because of their utility to you, nor are they people who you would cast aside because of their flaws. Luffy and crocodile hash this out in their fight, Crocodile doesn't have any friends, only tools, so he couldn't understand why Luffy wouldn't just cast Vivi aside because of her baggage (her kingdom being at war). As we know, Luffy would never do that to a friend, he would rather die fighting for them than live having discarded and abandoned them and their dreams. When it comes to Pell, I can totally understand how him not dying would upset people, I've just learned to accept it. Some people say that Oda loves fake out deaths but I think Oda just hates killing characters, small difference I know but I think it matters. When it comes to these fake deaths I think the important thing is that the characters involved all thought that they were going to die when they made their decision to act. There are other shows where people make a decision that should kill them but it works out and they live, I think this is far worse than the reverse that we have here, Pell made the decision to die to save everyone and he lived instead. The reason I think it works a bit better is because Pell is making a smart decision and is rewarded by still being alive where as in the opposite case someone makes a poor decision and is rewarded. Either way, take it however you will, I think this is the worst example in the series so at least in comparison any future cases wont be as bad, and the real deaths will hit that much harder because of how rare they are.

2 things. Oda still gets dragged for his poor writing in this arc, not killing Pell as hes supposed to be dead. He hates killing characters and that is my only issue with One Piece. Next, Robin is HEREEE!!! I am Pumped! Were finally getting there guys!!

So many thoughts: 1. The bag scene was just a montage of a bunch of characters the crew met as a farewell to Alabasta, y'all just don't recognize the ones you skipped cus they were in fillers (*some* of it is very good IMO so it's a shame we skip them all). 2. This anime is riddled with fake deaths, you get used to it. 3. The crew member swap for Nico Robin in exchange for Vivi is an absolute steal, but be prepared for her to be a very slow burn. 4. And finally... I love that Bon Clay being a friggin GOAT was never clapped down in the comments, even from day one, despite it being IMO very much a spoiler. Oh and for like the 5000th time, avoid the opening and end credits like the plague because they basically JUICED those things with spoilers with the introduction of Nico Robin as a crew member.

Fun facts: The reason Pell didn’t die was because this chapter came out around 9/11 and Oda’s editor thought it would be distasteful for something for someone to die from an explosion in the sky near this time. So now he’s alive!

No one likes that Oda does not kill off pell. This is the most common critique from fans of the story, is that Oda struggles to kill off characters. You will learn that he also does kill off characters when it is crucial to move the plot forward however 😅

I think the crew's friendship with Vivi really made it seem like she'd stay, but I also agreed with ya'll when I was watching for the first time in that she is really needed in her country, and more importantly, she loves it and wants to improve it. And, in the crew, ya everyone's had a literal 'role' including robin now with the "archaeologist" whether she's trustworthy or not.

Bon-chan does this wordplay all the time with okama (a japanease word which means mostly gay and/or transgender person) and Come my way. So he's switching between "Oh Come my way" and the "Okama way". Small detail but I found that fun so i'm sharing^^. Great reaction as always 👍!

Pell is not even close to the biggest culprit, there are characters in one piece that survive after oda writes in literally 20 plus death flags for them lmao... Pell only had a couple, being the guardian of alabasta and carrying the bomb.

Its the worst part of odas writing that doesnt get criticized nearly enough, its common sense that if you keep writing fake out deaths you rob any kind of emotional investment from your audience whenever anyone is close to dying. Its like, eh, look at all these other jobbers that survived worse, why would this character die? And this flaw in odas writing 100 percent destroys a lot of the tension in certain arcs, just the truth

Yeah speed and stuff is relative. Just because pells fruit is a bird doesn't mean his speed is stuck equal to that bird. His own speed adds to it and the 2 multiply. Zoan types work like Saiyans from dragonball. Physical effort is the only way to improve. But it does improve every aspect all together.

Zoan type devil fruit users are incredibly durable but yeah early on in the series Oda does not like keeping people dead. He will never confirm someone's death and bring them back later, but he will often have characters survive stuff that they probably shouldn't. Very much enjoyed these reactions. Robin is great, and I'm glad the Vivi goodbye hit you guys in the feels. That moment is iconic for OP fans.

I only watched the french fansub (so not the crunchyroll version) and it translate both sentences. But maybe you're right, sometimes fansub is more accurate (because no censorship) and sometimes just not 😅 (Bad translation).

Luffy's Durability, Vivi being not being able to contribute and etc will all makes sense after 1000 and so episodes. Remember that other than water, sea prism stone like the cage where crocodile trapped luffy and the others, they mentioned navy cells are equipped with them, so they can capture crocodile that way pretty easy, and smokers’ stick(jutte) is also made out of sea prison stone so he could seize crocodile

So Pell was supposed to die. But they changed it cuz the manga was written shortly after the 9/11 attack and Oda felt with the bomb and everything that it was too insensitive to make it so violent. I remember at the time I hated that he survived too, and it took a little time but One Piece isn’t afraid to take risks of death anymore.

One of the things I don't like about this arc and what I consider to be the most annoying one is that Pell is still alive. He should have died heroically and there is no freaking way he survived that blast. It actually ticked me off that he was still alive, it just made his sacrifice seem to nonchalant and inconsequential.
