Kagami Uchiha was briefly shown in Danzo's memories when he fought Sasuke. The 2nd Hokage announced that Hiruzen would be the 3rd Hokage. He's said to be the grandfather or great grandfather of Shisui. Also if you remember Yamato was assigned his new code name by Tsunade when he was first introduced.

If this was the Chunin filler or "IT" filler i'd say definiitely skip but this is very informative and heavily entertaining I'd argue minus the tree people episode and the saving Yamato episode. The Coup de etat episode they just finished is one of the best filler episodes, massive info dump.

You don't always need to kill to unlock the mangekyo. This is in a novel, not the manga or anime but for example Shisui unlocked his mangekyo because him and his best friend at the time were on a mission and the enemy was catching up to them. His friend was lacking behind and shisui basically didn't slow down, allowing the enemy to catch up with his friend. Once he realized what happened, he unlocked his mangekyo because he felt at fault for his friends death.

To clear up confusion about Kinoe or Yamato He, like Sai was initially from the Foundation, not the Anbu. It’s Danzo’s personal Special Ops. In canon, Yamato was a given name much like Sai as a fake name. Kakashi often refers to him as Tenzo and Yamato tells Kakashi not to call him that. This being filler adds in a backstory to how Tenzo gets that name, but ultimately starts off as Kinoe

Oh wow, like I said, I never watched these before and I'm getting some great context. The anime production team must have had some kind of outline from Kishimoto-sensei when these episodes went into production because that's definitely what I'm feeling from the dialogue and such. EDIT------ @DerozTY @Jisoo @Ahkenaton Furdge Omg, I did so much digging about this topic when I had downtime at work today. 😭 It's actually hard to find a definite answer about this. It seems like it's a possibility screenwriters (for anime in general) may ask the original mangaka if their scenario is okay for some filler that have connections to the plot (like a quick scan and thumbs up lol) but it doesn't necessarily mean the mangaka said "IT'S CANON". Just boring administrative tasks, lol. I even went on Japanese Wikipedia! At the very least, I found out the screenwriters for this arc in particular, worked on Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, Inu Yasha, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Shaman King, Black Jack...to name a few. I must admit, they had me gagged with Gundam Wing because that is my literal favorite anime.

Shisui is dead. The anime doesn’t do a good job of showing the scene of his death. He was poisoned by one of Danzos subordinates who is from the Aburame (bug) clan. He gave itachi his eye because he knew he was about to die anyways. It’s all explained in a light novel.

Spoiler alert. 3rd Hokage thinks Uchihas are our friend but 2nd Hokage and his Subordinate (Danzo) believes Uchihas are enemy which wasn't true at all. The reason Uchihas and Itachi suffered is 2nd Hokage's vengeance.

Concerning tech in Naruto I don’t get why people are always so shocked. The main thing Naruto lacks is transport like cars and trains (which is understandable based on how their cities are. Besides that Naruto was made in the early 2000s/late 90s so of course there won’t be modern tech like smartphones etc… we have however seen guy’s team use radio coms retrieving garaa and video surveillance before. These things, especially in the military came before cellphones and the internet chronologically.

One of the first scenes in the 2nd episode of Naruto is a picture being taken. I feel like a light study of evolution of tech is needed hahaha. Photographs started in the early 1900s and video surveillance in 1940s in germany. Even walkie talkies came about around these times. All of this wayy before cellphones were invented and common in the 80s/90s.

They were both subordinates of the 2nd Hokage. The difference between Danzo and the 2nd Hokage is that the second Hokage’s decisions are based off of what he believes is best for the village and his history/mistrust of madara and the Uchiha. While of course the interest of the village is of importance to Danzo, time and time again he’s proven he puts himself first. He let the village get destroyed without helping to try and gain power.

To help with your understanding, kakashi said his friends words/taught him to never kill a friend even if it was a mission, which obito taught kakashi if you remember, it was a BIG part of their characters. THAT was what Kakashi said he would honour, not specifically about Rin. Also about Shisui, yes he committed suicide, and entrusted Itachi with his last eye as he knew he was being hunted, and to awaken itachi's mangekyo sharingan, which it showed Itachi awakening straight after Shisui's death.

Till today nobody knows what is his real name. Yamato, Tenzo and Kinoe are all code names of his at various times in his life

I really hope you dont let this negative comment section influence you in future "filler" decisions. There are like 2 little filler arcs later - each around 6 episodes long. One about Itachis backstory, which is technically canon because its from his light novel and one about the origins of Ninjutsu and the sage of six paths. I think both arcs are really enjoyable in a first time watch and really deepen the story and the naruto world

Please, let this be the last filler you see before the end of the show. There are many good fillers, but they can be confusing for you. Do not ever assume the information given has something to do with the real anime. Even when fillers tell some canon character's history, they make it so canon is not disturbed. So, side caracters that doesn't exist in canon will never show up or have a part in the real show. But sometimes, the quality of the fillers make us create expectations that will never happen. This confusion can be detrimental for the perception of quality of the show in general. Besides, most of the fillers are not so good. Sometimes, there are two good fillers about the same topic that have different approaches for past events. I kindly suggest that you first end the show, see the gaiden adaptations, which is canon, and then return to the fillers. In this moment, you will be seeking for more answers not shown in canon, and fillers will be more useful.

Actually, awakening mangekyo it's not based on the "killing" of a love one "literally" (call it friend, family etc ), but more on the "trauma", the intense feeling of loss, sadness etc... they say straight "killing" a love one, cause in order to have mangekyo, lots of people did kill a loved one, but we've clearly seen from Itachi's life, that killing is no "the" only way...

HI! First time commenter, long time watcher...fillers are important! Sure! If you were actively watching week to week Naruto they were hell sometimes, giving repeated information. But for first time watcher there are fillers you need to see to get perspective and care deeply about upcoming events. I was sad you didn't see some from Young Naruto after the Sasuke Arc, some gave growth to a few characters and even Sakura you were able to see practicing and getting stronger so when Shippuuden came it wasn't just like "oh! so now she's strong"

When Kakashi says "I intend to honor his wish", he doesn't mean a singular wish like protecting Rin. He is referring to Obito's anthem and way of life, which was not just to protect Rin, but rather to be true "hero" of a shinobi- by never abandoning a comrade. That was the messsage/theme of Obito that made the most impact on Kakashi's life, because up until the point of Obito losing his life, Kakashi's motto was the opposite of Obito's: which was : "to follow the rules, even if it means abandoning your comrades. The idea that there's more to the promise Kakashi made to Obito is valid. But also I think that his response gives insight to something that many are familiar with. It could be argued that Kakashi's answer is just that part of an element to life that we all give when hammered down with guilt, we battle in a way that's hard to be honest with ourselves when it comes to reflecting on our promises that we feel we have failed to keep. Kakashi doesn't talk about that eye for a reason, because he does feel that he failed, along with visiting their graves, he is riddled with this guilt. Perhaps he can't outwardly confess to that yet. Giving any answer besides the one he gave would have prompted a deeper dialogue, one that both he and Itachi didn't have time for, and more importantly, that Kakashi wasn't ready to explore.

There isn't as much character development as much as "This was the dark time in Kakashi's life, also Yamato was there and he became Kakashi's friend".
