nahh they really arent blood related but they dont care they still see each other as father and son❤️

Sudz _son

Time on the ISS does go slower but by very little, like a fraction of a second. For time to be noticeably different than on earth you gotta be VERY far away.

victoria t

Senku is adopted, he’s not Byakuya’s son by blood

Bambi

i honestly feel like ron is so similar to taiju lol even his answer at the start wanting to keep everyone fed and helping with whatever the most vital task is 😭 he's even the same in his way of being comedic relief lmaooo

Chris Garcia

I think I have something in my eyes

Sudz _son

2026-09-06 19:00 Oop, audio/visual syncing is off, Editor-in-chief! Right at 13:12. And nope! It's not a mistranslation. Byakuya and Senku are not blood related (I know, they look alike). You didn't forget and it hasn't been mentioned. When it came up in the manga, everyone said what you said....so if THAT happened, it wouldn't be weird to readers/fans, lol. Though Senku did mention that he and the villagers being born 3700+ years apart makes them practically not related.

You read that right. Nothing wrong with the translations. Senku is adopted by Byakuya. They are not blood related. That last tombstone was Byakuya's tombstone but it is probably made by the next generation children who wasn't able to make one exactly like the other 3 tombstones.

Mouson

some of the characters' hair colors are just to make the characters stand out, not their actual colors

Arz.09

its cool but always felt random and weird that the author chose to make em look exactly the same if thats the case

envy

They never show the first couple again, so it’s assumed that they never made it back😕 (And those two were already married at the time we met them, wasn’t sure if you caught that)

Tuấn Hồ

time does run differently in space, but not by that much if they're so close to earth, you can actually ignore it. This is not Interstella where they went through a wormhole.

Boggie

As soon as Ron started saying he would be a hunter in the intro my first thought was, "Okay, so you would be starving to death." lol

Funnyguyfun7 .

Thanks to you guys I resumed my watch for this show and now its in my top 5. This show is so good.

LeNiarfe

I wasn’t expecting to cry my eyes out today lol I forgot how emotional this episode was to me.

chaosdreamer

Senku knows he's going to reverse the petrification and save everyone but now he knows that the "everyone" does not include his dad. 😢

Splahes

I never gave dr stone a chance but then when I started watching it with you guys from episode 1 I can say this anime is so good so far👏🏽

ted pasek

The best hunting show is Golden Kamuy. Literally everything is prey in that show.

Michael H

Unless it becomes a plot point later on that I’m not aware of, Senku being randomly adopted despite looking so much like his dad feels like a really weird attempt to avoid incest between Senku and the village…despite the fact that they are hundreds of generations apart…and that the village spawned from six people…

Matej Božič

People really didnt give it a chance because of a few 3d animations. Its awesome though

Lmiwnks

Not a bad transition. What you reading is the correct form in what they are trying to tell you

지원

Senku is adopted lol

Kevin Depoppe

to Ron : there is actually a movie about an astonaut that's stuck on mars after accidently being left behind by his crew, the movie is called the martian. t's a very good movie worth checking out.

Wsgyan

Senku is adopted

Karaka

I always just assumed that the Author made Senku & his dad not be blood relatives so that viewers don't call it "incest" when Senku & Kohaku become a thing (this isn't a spoiler since I haven't even finished season 2 btw)

RorotheShadow

Guys, why are you overthinking this? 😂 Senku isn't blood related to Byakuya. In this episode, we learn that he's adopted. It's not a bad translation 😂 And I think, in the end, it doesn't matter whether Senku and Byakuya are related or not. They are and will always be father and son ❤❤

IAmRolfie

4:45 If you guys enjoy this lil music cut from the intro you guys would love love LOVE fairy tail, its music sounds exactly like this, and is all very upbeat and fantasy like.

IAmRolfie

9:30 This guy isn’t indigenous, he’s someone who was lost at Sea presumably. Which means everyone, everywhere must have been petrified if even the people in the middle of nowhere werr.

IAmRolfie

I honestly preferred the dub version of this episode wholefully. Being able to hear the accents and how they each spoke made the conversations feel more real once they got stranded.

Merfhew

On the one hand, if Senku ends up with someone, yeah, it'll probably be Kohaku. On the other hand, I can't picture him with someone. Science is his true love.

Green Oak

I don't think so. Senku says in this episode that even if they were blood relatives that him and the current village would be so distant that he'd hardly even be connected to them

Green Oak

Unless you've seen Senku show any romantic interest in someone, I don't get why you'd think it's about incest

Michael H

@Cap I just can’t think of a reason why they would add the adoption aspect. Seems so random to me. And when Kohaku shuddered that they were related to Senku, he reassured them again that he was adopted. It just struck me as a very bizarre attempt to not weird out the shippers.

Green Oak

I would think him saying that 4k years apart meaning there's little to no actual relation is to appease shippers. Him being adopted is simply an emotional aspect meant to highlight him and his fathers bond.

Kayso

I'm not the biggest fan of like musical segments but I like it in Dr Stone. Lilian singing kinda reminds me of Disney lol. This episode was really emotional, RIP to them. Then seeing Senku crying at the end of the episode really got to me. Yeah Michelle this is the first time it's been revealed that Senku and Byakuya aren't blood related

Kayso

Exactly I said this last episode I love how you can hear all their accents in the dub

Kayso

I knew I couldn't be the only one who kept thinking the music sounds just like Fairy Tail every time the episode title would pop up lol

Michael H

@Cap That’s certainly possible, but if I were to put money on it, I would bet heavily that the primary reason is to appease potential shippers. The large majority of readers and watchers are going to be children who likely will not look past the fact that the villagers are “related” to Senku. Kohaku’s reaction probably mirrored the reaction of a lot of younger fans. It’s like the author (or more likely the editor) was saying “Here’s the scientific reason why the villagers aren’t related to Senku—them being separated by so much time—and for all the younger fans, they’re DEFINITELY not related because Senku’s adopted anyway.”

Lukas Moser

The epic of Gilgamesh is a really good book. It's pretty short, but it's influenced fantasy a lot. The idea of a hero character and more importantly "the hero's journey," comes from that story.

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

I've seen other translations that say they're not "direct" blood relations so maybe they are related but he's not his dad (he's like an uncle or something that took him in maybe)? Or this might be a case of even weird shared anime traits not meaning characters are related because anime design is like that sometimes.

Gavin Daniels

I know someone else commented this when it was first posted but I noticed the desync at 13:13 still hasn’t been fixed just as a heads up

Green Oak

I'm sorry but that's an insane reach. You've come up with this entire marketing ploy without any shred of evidence. Younger fans? The average Dr. Stone reader isn't 10 and if they are, they don't care about shipping. So this whole "for the younger audience thing" really goes out the window when there's nothing to back it up and if it were true it still goes against what you're saying. Dr. Stone isn't a romance anime. The biggest romance in the entire series is Chrome having feelings for Ruri, in which case they are much closer in relation than anyone is to Senku, yet there was no scientific clarification. They don't care about shippers as shipping culture is much more a Western trend and not something to market to in Japan. They wouldn't add this clarification for shippers then do NOTHING else in the entire series for shippers. It makes zero sense. also "Kohaku’s reaction probably mirrored the reaction of a lot of younger fans." is so insanely out of touch it's funny

Marco St

Honestly, I think the author was just made to throw that in so people don't feel weirded out if Senku were to romance one of the Ishigami descendants. Biologically speaking, the descendants are so far removed that it doesn't really matter even if Senku was actually his biological son, but maybe the editors felt they needed to add another degree of separation. My headcanon now for why they look so alike is that Byakuya died his hair and styled it to look similar to Senku's just cause he wanted to avoid anyone thinking Senku was adopted. People (especially kids) can be mean and he wanted to spare Senku any such interactions with idiots. Of course, we know that Senju wouldn't give a fuck (lol), but Byakuya wouldn't have known that when Senku was just a toddler. This falls apart when you think about the fact that Byakuya would've had to continue dying his hair somehow after they landed back on Earth, but I can ignore that part of my brain lol.

Michael H

@Cap Easy, Cap, damn. Why so hostile? I worked in publishing for ten years; I can just very easily envision a scenario where the editor insists on making a silly change like this for a silly reason. I very possibly could be wrong, and it was the author’s intention all along to make Senku adopted, but it honestly feels added. It’s basically Writing 101 to not add random elements that serve no purpose and just muddy up the narrative. Ron and Michelle’s reaction is a perfect example as to why: they were confused by the addition. All I’m saying is that in my experience, it feels like an editor’s addition. Regardless, though, it doesn’t matter in the least, so why are you getting so worked up over it?

Green Oak

I have no clue why you think I'm upset or being hostile. Reaching seems to be the go to for you. I explained to you how it doesn't make sense for your idea to be the case and your only response has been "well I think so." Even now you mention your experience but then still just say "I think so" disregarding how little actual sense it makes

Michael H

@Cap Okay, I think we’re done. Not sure why you felt the need to start insulting me, but you do you. I explained the reasoning behind my thought process based on my experience in the field, and I prefaced my thoughts with “I think” because I’m not arrogant enough to presume I’m unquestionably correct in my assumptions, considering I don’t know anyone attached to this project. That clearly triggers you for some reason, so how about we just end this completely meaningless discussion here. You have your thoughts based on your feelings, I have my thoughts based on my experience, and at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter one billionth of a percent who is right.

Green Oak

Buddy you weren't insulted once. I even read through again just to make sure. You're fighting an imaginary battle there. I mentioned your argument of "I think" because you never gave any valid points. I'll admit I didn't explain that very well. Instead of explaining how it's actually weird or doesn't make sense, you keep saying you just feel that way. Which is fine and all but I asked for actual reasons. I gave counter arguments and new points but you ignored them completely to mention your experience then not apply it all to the discussion.

Michael H

@Cap “Reaching seems to be the go to for you.” I consider that insulting, or at the very least condescending and dismissive. I gave my points and my background as to why I think that way: editors and publishers will often insist on changes that could be taken as controversial by some readers, especially in works directed at a younger audience. It’s not a romance story, but potential romance is a huge draw for teenagers, and publishers are well aware of that. I also gave reasons why most writers would avoid adding in a narrative element that serves no narrative purpose; I even gave an example as to why they avoid doing that, which you also saw in this very reaction. Your counterarguments basically amounted to “nuh uh”—a powerful and ancient debate technique to be sure, but one that doesn’t lend itself to a continued conversation. Not sure what your endgame here is, my guy. This is just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point.

Green Oak

Buddy I countered every single one of those. I'm asking for an actual response to that. I gave you detailed explanations of how each of your points was backwards. You've now decided to solely focus on repeating your experience and crying over non-existent insults. "Not sure what your endgame here is, my guy. This is just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point." This is embarassingly hypocritical

Michael H

@Cap All you said as a counter argument is that this isn’t a romance story and that kids don’t care about shipping. One is irrelevant and the other is irrefutably just plain false. The idea of characters getting together is extremely engaging, and publishers absolutely are aware of this. It doesn’t have to be a romance to have this aspect; the characters don’t even need to get together to have this aspect. I mean, come on, man, these very reactors you are watching have already speculated several times on different potential matchups. I am responding to you because I’m honestly just confused. I’ve made no claim to certainty. I simply pointed out a strange part of the story and gave my guess as to why it might exist. You, on the other hand, seem personally offended by this. It just seems like a bizarre thing to get this triggered by. I have already said I might be wrong, so I’m not sure what else you are after here.

botanbutton

Just want you to know you are right and the other person is wrong. 🤷🏾‍♀️ When the manga chapter came out everyone was like..."is this to avoid incest controversy lol" cause like you said, it doesn't make any sense otherwise to make Senku adopted. Like, it's clearly that! There isn't any reason to make that choice unless the editor thinks or will push for Senku to be "involved" with one of the villagers.

Michael H

@botanbutton Botan, my savior! That guy had me questioning whether I was losing my mind for a minute. Seemed like such a reasonable—almost obvious—speculation to make. One of the weirdest arguments I’ve ever been a part of. Appreciate it, friend.

botanbutton

@Michael H 🙋🏾‍♀️ No problem. I'm just speculating here but I think the other person feels very strongly about Senku being coded as asexual/aromantic/asexual & aromantic. He definitely comes across that way as a character with his total disinterest in romance (and possibly sex) so the headcanon might be very strong with some fans, leading to silly arguments like the one you had two weeks ago. 😅 I just happened to be rewatching today and saw the weird argument and had to say something lol.

Michael H

@botanbutton Well, I appreciate it, and you could be right. I’m embarrassed to have been caught up in such a pointless argument, considering the motivations for the adoption aspect ultimately don’t matter at all. But such is the internet 😞

Moe

Ron speaking about astronauts being well trained and landing on Mars.. just made me think about Martian staring Matt Damon. You both should watch it some time I think you both would enjoy. Similar vein to what you were describing.
