DragonSinOfWrath

Guys I couldnt restrain myself, Im weak. I binged until like episode 10 last weekend xD

지원

let's gooooo this ep is rellay good

Dwayne Townsend

The more anime you watch the more your taste is going to expand and you will find the most random anime enjoyable 🥸 .. toss “To your eternity” on the list .. surprisingly good

Lulu-chan

Kidnappings of young women to be sold off were quite common back then, in fact that's one of the first things her father said to her in ep 1. Also, her father knows Maomao pretty well and he knows she is a clever girl.

Phyllis

Binge the whole season and watch season 2 too!! 😆 Even better, read the manga! 🤭

Lulu-chan

That's what I did back then when I first watched it, I binged the hell out of it, then proceeded to read the manga and when I caught up with that, I started and finished reading the light novels. Currently waiting for the latest novel to be released in June. Can't wait!

Phyllis

The romance in The Apothecary Diaries isn’t all sugar and roses—you’ll know it when it hits. But for those caught up through Season 2, we’re eating well, especially manga and novel readers. Also, the series touches on issues that weren’t seen as problems back then but hit differently in today’s context.

PEAK! This is probably everyone's favorite episode from season 1. Maomao really showed what she's made of and how her sense of justice will make her do what needs to be done, even slap a hoe. 😂 And yeah, this show does handle the "adult topics" in a very sensible and tasteful manner; it doesn't make it "weird", it's just a part of life.

Phyllis

@Lucia Same! 😆

carmen v

the emperor is actually a funny guy haha

Wasabi tobiko

If Ron want to watch something this kind of genre. I think he would enjoy watch 'Red Cliff' 1 and 2 movie. its about Three Kingdom war in China Who dont know about Zhuge Liang, Sun Tzu and The Art of War? Other patreons try to watch these movie. All according to..... Keikaku huahahahaha

victoria t

You guys watch dr. Stone, you should know why flames change colors!

victoria t

@lucia you can read the chapters as they’re released on j-novels if you don’t wanna wait til may 30 LOL

AttackRunRepeat

So when Lady Lihua is out in the garden a white butterfly kind of flies near her. In Japanese beliefs white butterflies are the deceased visiting you or saying their final farewell. So in this moment you could see it as her son visiting her now that she is better and saying goodbye.

Michael

Lucia I could swear I saw you in other Apothecary reactions before 😂

Lulu-chan

@Michael, Flexiejay, maybe?!

Lulu-chan

@Victoria, I went past what J-Novel has published. I read the whole web novel too. Atm I'm at the smallpox outbreak...the author hasn't finished writing and that's all that is available in English 😅

Michael

Oh yea :) patiently waiting for s2 over there

101mavrik

The music is so goooooooooooooooooood

Bryce Jackson

Except this is set in China so not sure if that fits here

Bryce Jackson

We need more of this honestly, it's such a good series

victoria t

@lucia Oh, you found the fan translations online too? 🤣🤣🤣

AttackRunRepeat

It's actually only based on China. It's a fictional place called Li. The animators are also Japanese so it makes more sense that they would reference something they understand or believe in.

JustRojo

I’m with you Ron, I don’t typically watch shoujo anime, but I was recommend this and this show has been an absolute delight , it’s just one that you look forward to watching always

Erin

loveee this ep. that whole scene where she slaps the lady in waiting hooked me in for the rest of the season 🤣🤣

Taka

i think the lady in waiting was happy because instead of being scolded or reprimanded in that situation, instead, was asked of her services. just some water but can imply she still has her trust.

May

Great reaction to a great episode! So glad I was able to join you guys for it. Hope you consider reacting to 3 episodes per week of this series (if you are able to do so), as the story just gets better as it moves forward.

rdd

definitely!

lex

I really hope this wins anime of the year... Or at least something.

wanira 11

Yeah this show fucking slaps

Lulu-chan

@Victoria t, no, I continued reading the web novel when I caught up with the light novel.

Undeath Ghost

Truly, one of the best moments in this show is when you watch Maomao go from Meek, obedient servant girl to ruthless teacher with the Head Lady-in-Waiting. I love the tense, long pause after the girl admits to applying the makeup and you can just see Maomao, even from behind, deciding if she's going to break every rule of obedience that comes with her place as a servant girl to teach this "foolish Lady" what she did wrong. The fact she had the guts to *Actually do it* though, right in front of the manager of the entire rear palace takes a lot and really speaks to her character.

Michelle Lam

so wild to see this side of maomao but pop off queen!

Michelle Lam

still so wild the amount of trust given to her! lol

Michelle Lam

LOL its taking so much of me to not watch ahead - michelle

Lulu-chan

There is something Gaoshun says to Jinshi in a scene in the manga (soon to be adapted into anime) which will make you understand better what I meant. It's in S2, so I won't be spoiling it for you, but keep this in mind.

Ilsuk Yang

Maomao was so into showing Lady Lihua's ladies-in-waiting what's up, that she completely forgot that Jinshi was watching the whole thing until he spoke ("It's frightening how quickly women can change" lol). Girl completely forgot herself because the negligence of the ladies-in-waiting caused serious harm to Lady Lihua. Maomao likes to present herself in a certain way, but, if she sees injustice carried out, whether intentional or not, she will spring into action (and boy does she spring into action)! I also love when Maomao talks about different flowers and how their beauty is seen differently by different people. Such a beautiful way to say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
