Oda is a genius writer. First time they mentioned anything about the Sun Pirates, or the fish men’s history was way back when they met Nami. Now, hundreds of episodes later, they delve a bit more into it. Oda does a lot more of this kind of writing throughout the series. The live action takes it a step further by mentioning other people, places, and events that haven’t been introduced in your anime adventure thus far. But soon… you will have the answers you seek 😉

Boa has to be a warlord to protect the island since the navy can now travel across the calm belt thanks to Vegapunk making new boats that have sea prism bottoms. Before that the island was naturally protected so they could always just be pirates. When we first met her, she wanted to avoid the Marine's orders because she does hate the government.

Boa needs her Warlord status to make sure her Island is safe When you look back at the start of this arc it was explained that without her Warlord status then Boa and her island would be regarded as a regular Pirate Nation & the World Government would invade to make arrests & destroy the island for being a Pirate Nation It wasn’t a problem in the past but as the old lady explained the Navy now have ships that are able to bypass the Calm Belt…which is a sea that regular ships can’t go through Boa’s ship can only go through because of the giant Snakes she has at the front of her ship

I started to watched One piece when I was 15 y.o., 12 years ago and rewatching One piece right now hits so much different after gaining knowledge about this world, especially I didn’t understood how good was storytelling and world building especially of later arcs. And so many little details in character’s tattoo, building ornaments eyc, Oda ready hinted like 50 times of future events even in the current arcs, but we didn’t notice it on the first watch, and how could I notice back in the day small details like one of the Goroseis (Five Elders) have Gorbachov mole on his bald head lol

Im not in the same boat as your opinion on covering the tattoo with something else,coz that idea already taken by Fisher Tiger.They all still a teenager at the time.And if u notice no one in the Amazon Lily own a tattoo like ace or other people outside their tribe..Women there are all grace and beautiful i dont think its their culture to do it.Even if she did would u think others Amazon Lily will question or ties the story to FIsher Tiger sun pirates??because only she and the sisters have the tattoo in Amazon Lily?? and deceiving Amazon lily by saying the tattoo represent strenght is also lying so same as what they did now.I think Boa Hancock too traumatized to even covering the mark with another mark might become a reason other Amazon Lily raise suspicion. Or mybe unlike fisherman they still too traumatized by the act of "marking" their body with anything, u can see how deep the trauma even telling the story made the sister scream in pain.

No she was just implying that she doesn’t want to look weak & be an easy target. So, I just finished the reaction, basically, no, there is no record or pictures of the slaves, hence why they’re branded and hence why Hachi covered up his branding, because only through the branding, one knows you’re a slave. Slaves are seen as objects, items, they’re dehumanised, its basically like a phone, if you break your phone or you lose it, you just get another one, you don’t take pictures of your phone in case you lose it, and hang up posters. And since a lot of people have similar phones the only way to recognize your own, is through the background or if you’ve branded it (put a sticker with your name on it), or have a phone case on it, that makes it easily recognisable.

I think what Oda wants to show us is that some scars aren’t meant to be erased. Hancock’s branding is a reminder of the trauma she lived through as a slave. It’s not something she wants to just cover up with ink because it was years of emotional pain and they were only 12 years old... I feel like by re-branding it, you’re running away from it and that’ll hurt you just more because it says you’re afraid. Like the celestial dragons treated them as slaves and god knows what they possibly did to their bodies and more… dark thoughts are possible with those bastards. Oda may be saying that healing isn’t about pretending the past never happened, but about learning to live with it and taking back control. Hancock hides it with her hair but never removes it so you can see that she is still dealing with that pain. She’s not ready to show it, but she also won’t act like it never existed. It’s how people often carry trauma quietly and open up only when they feel safe. In her case, that person was Luffy, who accepted her without judgment. It’s all baby steps.

Rebranding wouldn't really accomplish much. In fact having any kind of brand on your body would be a pretty dead giveaway of your past. The average person in their world would see a brand and instantly know what that means. Everyone around them would accurately assume the sisters were once owned by someone. It worked for the Sun Pirates since they fully acknowledge their former lives in slavery. For them rebranding was an effective way of reclaiming their identity. But for the Boa sisters it's not the same, they don't want to acknowledge that past trauma. Their scarred backs will forever haunt them regardless of what brand it is. It represents nothing but disgust and horror for them. As such they only want to desperately hide it by any means necessary. With Hancock's ability to petrify others it was much simpler for them to just perpetuate a lie about being cursed, effectively hiding their past for good. Turning their weakness into a weapon ensured that everyone around them will always keep their distance. It also saves the Boa sisters the pain and trauma of getting branded a second time.

Btw i think its quite insane how Luffy literally is a goofy ass idiot most of the time when it comes to backstorys. Often he doesnt care or walks away when ppl talk abt thei're backstorys. Even though he ignores, he deeply feels whats wrong and revolts against it. The fact that he without thinking abt it, instantly jumped on Sandersonias back not even directly adressing his want to help, makes Luffy just a 10x greater character to me. Hes not thinking abt "hah i won that battle now hear me out" , hes not thinking "thats what you get for that" or even "if i impress boa, she'll help me". Luffy just does it because its RIGHT.

My niece and nephews watch demon slayer and they loved it kids learn about death at young age from all sorts of things what's important is the message and if it's easy for them to disgust I think shows like demon slayer helps build character you know the whole good vs evil bit

yeah i don't agree with rebranding. It worked for Fisher Tiger because everyone knew that some of his crew were slaves but that's not the case with the Boa sisters and they still in their teens at the time and traumatised because of their horrific ordeals at the hands of the celestials dragons. They also suffer from PTSD because of it. They don't want to relive their trauma and just want to hide from it. But on the other hand they don't want to erase it by rebranding. You also have to think about the culture they grew up in that the strong are beautiful. In a way in their eyes being owned by CDs is a shame. It's something they have to hide. It's a weakness. To never show weakness in front of anyone Hancock developed an arrogant persona in front of other people and started to look down on people. To her it's a defense mechanism that way no one can hurt her anymore if she doesn't let people other than her sisters close to her. She doesn't trust easily.

This is why Arlong and his crew harbor such deep hatred toward humans. The Celestial Dragons likely don’t even remember the names of the slaves they buy, treating them as disposable and beneath notice. Branding is a blatant symbol of slavery whether it’s the mark of the Celestial Dragons or one from a slave market. Boa Hancock covering her slave brand with another design doesn’t truly erase what it represents; the mark remains a reminder of her past as a slave. Hence, all she could do was hide it. The only known case where a slave mark was meaningfully replaced was with the Sun Pirates’ symbol, used by Fishmen to reclaim their identity. But Hancock couldn’t use that as she wasn’t a member of the Sun Pirates, nor was she a Fishman. And she just doesn't want the fact she was a former slave to be known.

I feel like the way Boa handles her trauma is pretty realistic imo. Not everyone will simply just rebrand and toss away the horrors they’ve experienced, some people keep their memories close and develop psychological strategies to cope with overwhelming PTSD. Especially for these women, they were kidnapped, tortured, graped, etc. at the young age of 12 for 4 straight years. No wonder she can’t trust men considering what they’ve put them through. She uses her arrogance and heartless persona to keep people away and to be in power and control to combat the years she was enslaved. She’s clearly still an immature and vulnerable little girl inside, so her tough demeanor is compensation for that. (you’ll see more of that side next week). Ofc this isn’t the ideal method of coping but I like that Oda gives us a character that embraces the flaws of what psychological trauma can do to a person. I like her not because I think she’s a good person, but because she makes sense. My girl needs therapy :,)

Respectfully disagree with the replies here. While I can see there are certainly many aspects of the show that kids can enjoy and learn from, at the end of the day it's extremely graphic. You can't deny that. They literally show dead children on screen, close ups on their lifeless eyes, blood and gore etc. Imo, it's not something you should show someone at the age of 7. Now young teenagers sure. I wouldn't bat an eye at a 14 year old watching it. But to each their own, if you wanna show Demon Slayer to your kids that's your prerogative, I'll just be here silently judging you.

Guys I watched One Piece when I was 9yrs old, I found a pirated site to watch it (kissanime) and I woke up at 4 or 5 in the morning just to watch it before I go to school.
