My favorite episode of the season, so beautifully done and was not the outcome you thought from when you originally met Lakan. Cant wait for you guys to get into season 2

You have to also take into account status, Lakan who is a master strategist in the army isn't someone a commoner can just approach. Even if she claims she is his daughter if you where a soldier you'd not believe it for a second because you'd naturally know if your boss was married. She was put in a position due to the rear palace and Jinshi buying her that she could now interact with him.

Don't be trying to gaslight us, Ron!!!! 😤😂 That's why I included an episode with my reminder. 😋 But yeah, Lakan seeing Fengxian again is truly one of those moments that warms your heart and brings the tears. It's sad it happened late but we're glad it happened. Can't wait for season 2 episodes!

Lizzylizh

The song that she dances too always makes me cry . Why idk lmaooo

Also can we mentioned that all this happen because of Ah-Duo head lady Fengming. If she didn't accidently kill the emperor kid then Luomen wouldn't be excel and Lakan wouldn't been sent away.

From the Madam’s and Fengxian’s point of view, Lakan got the most popular courtesan pregnant then did a runner. Given their business, when Fengxian got sick she ‘should’ have been tossed out of Verdigris House, a courtesan with an STD would have put the whole house into disrepute, but Madam kept her hidden instead. When Lakan returned 3 years later Madam didn’t trust him with the truth but, in her mind, she had good reason not to.

bunnaily

no he still wouldve gotten banished, it was implied that the actual reason he got sent away was because he knew of the child swap

bunnaily

maomao definitely already knew, and as seen she was also already in contact with lakan (him trying to force himself into her life, insisting hes her father). my interpretation so far is that she simply didn't care enough to reunite them. she often shows a "none of my business" attitude. even here, she intended for him to buy meimei but at least gave him a hint so there'd be a possibility of him finding out about fengxian. she lets it play out

Wingsxofxfreedom

Can't wait for season 2. Pretty sure everyone was expecting a kiss but that wouldn't be the maomao way 😂😂

Luna

This episode makes me so emotional, the meeting with Lakan and Fengxian, Maomao’s dance and then Maomao ruins the mood at the end😂😂 Perfect apothecary diaries move, excited for S2😍

Excuse me, the only family I am rooting for is jinshi + mao mao + a bunch of kids 🧒 👧 👦

I think the Old Lady kept things a secret to not ruin the reputation of the brothel. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me. You wouldn’t want rumors that a courtesan at your establishment has syphilis.

ted pasek

This isn't a spoiler in anyway since its not part of the canon, but the writer did elude to the fact that MaoMao's mother, Fengxian is the daughter of the Brothel Granny, which is why she wasn't thrown out.

ted pasek

It was confirmed via social media by the OG author.

One of the great parts about this show is that sure you can piece things together before they are revealed, but they do a good job of laying it all out eventually in case you miss something. Excited for yall to start season two!

Meimei said, "Big Sis, why wasn't she being honest?" Fengxian had her pride as a courtesan; she never begged for Lakan's attention. She must have known that Lakan couldn't afford to buy her out, especially since he only visited her once every three months, and by then, her price had increased. In a desperate move, she attempted to get pregnant, believing that this would convince Lakan to purchase her by decreasing her price. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned because Lakan had to go overseas. It's such a tragic story... she should have been honest about her intentions from the beginning. But in the end, her pride led to her downfall. 😢

WHO IS READY FOR THE 🐸

Undeath Ghost

That moment when we see that Lakan doesn't perceive that Fengxian's beauty has withered at all is so beautiful. This show does such a good job of helping you understand both sides of a story (eventually) and how peoples behavior does not always make them out to be what they seem. Now that you've seen S1's finale I'll voice my personal opinions: The owner of the Verdigri House (aka the Gran) is, in the end, the one to blame here for this whole situation getting to where it did. Lakan wanted to reunite with her - even 3 years later. Fengxian wanted to reunite with him well before that... so much so that she sent him letters relentlessly and eventually even her and her own childs finger to try to "convince" him to return. Sad that he didn't receive those letters. If gran-gran hadn't pushed him away the moment he returned and refused to tell anyone else about Fengxian being hid back there then this would have all worked out *better*. As for why others didn't leak it, my personal understanding of the situation is that the only people who knew 100% that Fengxian was hidden away back there were Gran-Gran, Meimei, and Maomao. I don't think Loumen knew (though because his detective qualities that he passed on to Maomao, likely suspects). We also know that even if he did "figure it out", he firmly believes in "Not speaking on conjecture"... so he wouldn't have ever told Lakan without knowing for sure. Not to mention we have no idea what Lakan and Loumen's relationship is in the modern day. I do suspect that the other of the "Three Princesses" knew about Fengxian as well since they all seem to have adopted Maomao as their "little sister". That said, Meimei is the only one confirmed to know both by being shown tending to her and also talking to Maomao about visiting her.

Undeath Ghost

True, true. Doesn't change that I deem her the villain of the situation. Even if her motivations are reasonable from her perspective.

I felt that the old lady treated her courtesans the girls like her own daughters. She was just as furious with Lakan as the others were when he disappeared for three years, and everyone believed he had run away. During that time, FengXian became pregnant, lost her status as a high courtesan, gave birth to MaoMao, and was forced to serve male clients like any other courtesan. In the process, she contracted syphilis, losing not just her pride. Even if the truth about Lakan’s absence came to light later, it was too late. The damage had already been done, and there was no going back. Out of pride, FengXian may have chosen to remain hidden, and the old lady likely supported that, both to protect her and because she blamed Lakan for what had happened. MeiMei even cried, saying that if FengXian had been more honest from the very start, things might have turned out differently. And when Lakan finally saw FengXian again, still seeing her as beautiful, unchanged in his eyes despite everything, my heart just broke. His tenderness and loyalty moved me to tears.

Phyllis

In the novel, it was implied that the Granny was FengXian’s mother but yeah the author did confirm that info on social media.

You give too much credit to the old hag. It's her fault that Fengxian got syphilis, she forced her to sell her body. Maomao literally said that the establishment had dark past, and it only recently became such a reputable one. All that burdelmama really cares about is money. Fengxian was hidden when her condition worsened, only to protect the new good name of the brothel. It would cast a bad light on it when people would found out that there is an ex high-level courtesan of Verdigris with syphilis on the street. You can think and feel about the hag however you want. I will never see her as a good or even "gray" character in this show.

Phyllis

I'm not giving the old lady full credit, but it's important to consider that she had to ensure the brothel was bringing in customers so that everyone working under her could earn a living and have food on the table. The darker aspects lie more with the sex industry as a whole, not just with her particular establishment. In fact, hers was one of the more reputable ones, arguably the best. She did what she had to do. And yes, it's fair to assume that her decision to hide Feng Xian was motivated by money and preserving the brothel's reputation. You're absolutely free to feel however you want about it too. Everyone does. But as someone who’s read the novel, I understand more of the background, which is why I see it the way I do.

Ron has a great point at the beginning. Hindsight is 20/20. I myself am guilty of wanting to clarify to help but sometimes it's better to just let yall watch let the show clarify over time.

IcoNIC

We all know they will cater to the sub supremacy watchers lol but atp the way this show is so complex and you are watching in a language you don’t understand along with translation issues is why I watch dub. ATP the way they forget and sometimes not comprehend what’s happening, they should watch sub to keep the viewers happy then rewatch the episode in dub in there free time but that could be a lot with all the shows they are watching 🤷

Ilsuk Yang

Lakan finally married his dream woman 😭❤️ My first time watching this show, I knew that they were gonna continue to tease Jinshi and Maomao almost kissing just to tease us lol. I believe in a previous episode, y'all asked what an ox bezoar was. All I know about it is that Harry Potter used one to save Ron Weasley from food poisoning. That's all I remember about it lol
