oh we gotta love cliffhangers 🤪

i think the next in line would be the brother of the emperor if the emperor doesn’t have male heirs. so if the baby in the beginning wouldn’t of died he would of been the next heir to be the emperor and the concubine would of been the empress dowager (i think)

Luna

sabotages for the throne, for power, back then are crazy when you think about it (from my anime and kdrama knowledge😂)

Blooming tea is the reason I bought a glass teapot! There’s loads of different flavours and each is as pretty as the next.

The emperor’s brother is currently next in line to the throne because the emperor has no sons. But if any of the emperor’s concubines gives birth to a son, that boy will become the new heir. The concubine who gives birth to the first son will be made Empress. So, the families of each concubine wouldn’t want another to gain the upper hand by giving birth to a son first, which creates fierce competition behind the scenes. Palace drama isn’t as simple as just killing the emperor. His presence is necessary to keep the country stable and to prevent foreign powers from seeing weakness and making a move. Behind the scenes, people use politics and manipulation to gain power before making any move against the emperor. In many palace dramas and in real history, removing heirs or possible successors is often the first step.

It's not always a given that the concubine who gives birth to the first son will be made Empress. Totally agree with ever else though, especially the intricacies of palace intrigue.

Phyllis

It is indeed complicated, and I agree. Traditionally, the eldest son would be first in line and granted the title of crown prince. However, if he were considered unfit to rule, younger brothers might be given the opportunity to take his place. Naturally, the political influence of the concubines' families also plays a significant role in such decisions.

The thing I find most strange about this episode is how inquisitive moamoa is yet she doesn’t question jinshis reaction when she said about the tea making men infertile

"If she came around the same time as Lady Loulan," sneaky, sneaky hints lol. With the scents, I'd imagine that, back then, all the sources of these scents were probably a lot more concentrated than they are now, so it would be a lot more likely to have side effects than they would now-a-days.
