So many people refuse to accept that koby and garp would chose to help the Navy over even those they like but no one points out how Luffy purposely became a pirate knowing that that would put him against garp. Not only Gato but technically ace as well since they weren't going to be on the same crew. It's all about one pieces message of following your dream. Beating luffy is not going to skyrocket someone in the ranks like it would if you beat a commander of whitebeard. He’s not perceived much better than buggy if we’re being real. Yes luffy has a gift for bringing people together and has conquerors Haki but that doesn’t mean Much when he’s not even aware of haki or how to use it. They have codes and regulations. They aren't pirates who just do whatever they want, that's pretty much the gist of it and a fair assumption to make. I know what u mean but you’re wording it wrong tbh…Luffy is definitely a big deal and has the potential to be a bigger deal than every character in the story This story is a lot more realistic than the other shows in the big 3 when it comes to getting stronger and Luffy simply just isn’t there yet compared to other strong characters and that’s not because Luffy is weak You have to remember these other strong characters like the Admirals, Vice Admirals and Whitebeard Commanders in this war are all in their 30s, 40s, 50s or even older like Whitebeard, Garp and Sengoku who are living legends in their 70s Luffy is only 17 and he just started his journey 6 months ago in the One Piece worlds time and has come further in his development and journey than any character in the story at a much more rapid pace…(faster than Garp, Roger and Whitebeard themselves btw)

It is a lot more realistic hence why I said when it comes to notoriety he isn’t taken as seriously by the marines as the commanders you’re saying a lot about later and potential and I’m talking about the present. Right now luffy is weak. Which has been advantages in some ways but he’s not high priority compared to soooooooo many other people. This war isn’t about him it’s about somebodies who are much stronger and we are experiencing the war from his perspective as somebody who is absolutely weaker than other people. He’s here because of his relation to ace and the only thing that is notable is his connection to dragon and as of this episode him having conquerors haki but he’s not even the only one. The fact at present isn’t that big deal as his own person. Which is the whole point of him being such a good puzzle piece to this situation.

Yeah it just wasn’t coming out like I wanted it too even my original comment took me forever to write. I just think luffy shouldn’t be seen the way a character like ichigo is for example. Luffy is tough but there’s som real heavy hitters in one piece that “powering up” or something other over used term won’t apply. He generally is resourceful with what he has. Also the dragon thing just became public known to the rest of the marines so his notoriety is a bit more based on what he’s done so far. I didn’t mean to imply Luffy was unimportant 🫣 thank you for understanding.

What do they think of the potential of Zoro and Sanji becoming stronger in the future when they both have no devil fruit? If you remember it's been mentioned in Amazon Lily that conqueror's haki is extremely rare so there are only a few people who have it Confirmed Users are up to this point: - Boa Hancock -Luffy -Shanks -Rayleigh Also you have to understand that Garp is in a difficult position right now. If he were to help Ace he would throw away his whole career and go against who is as a person and everything he believes in. That's also why he urged them to become marines so it wouldn't come to this. In the end they decided to be pirates and follow their dreams and one piece is all about dreams. In a way he is also respecting Ace's decision being a pirate and with that decision also follows consequences and repercussions. He respects Ace and his way to live life

yeah at this point of the story the issue is one piece kinda struggle to truly show the real strenght of it's characters. Characters we see here are NOTHING like what we will see later, like their strenght didn't really change, it's just shown better because one piece evolved over time. Especially that arc, it's power scale/balance is kinda off since they're all nerf because they didnt introduce haki properly yet (which makes NO sense lol they're all fighting to death yet nobody uses armament haki despite being able to use it... makes no sense because it'd flip the whole fight)

That's what we readers KNOW but in the world, characters don't know that at all, he got a pretty big name now he's getting famous but he's nowhere near the top shot and doesn't have that potential "to be a bigger deal than every character in the story" FOR NOW, what he did have been done before or worse was done before in history by upcoming pirates (not mentionning who because I dont want to spoil)

At this point of the story for me haki is maybe the only thing they kinda failed to properly introduce like, conqueror's haki is right on point, coming at a perfect time but there are others types of haki and you'll see later why it's was so poorly managed this arc will reveal it's biggest flaw. Still a goated arc but a huge detail makes no sense at all it's messing up the whole fight coherence

[Spolier Warning] I'm pretty sure that they were using haki, like how marco was able to hit kizaru (similarly to how rayleigh was also able to), mihawk's slashes, boa hurting the pacifistas, sentomaru, etcit was said somewhere that we're seeing it through luffy's eyes and he isnt aware of haki yet so thats why it seems like some characters arent using haki

[Spoiler Warning] It’s slightly used here and there but nothing like it should. Not everyone is using it everytime. Like when WB slashed Kizaru to prevent him from attacking luffy. Had it been a halo hardened blow, kizaru wouldn’t be able to just pass through. And at that point WB still has enough strength to use it, you can’t say he’s weakened or anything, he has strength to use it.

The reason Sengoku doesn't kill Ace himself is to uphold the reputation and decorum of the Navy. It looks pretty weak when you need to have your highest ranking / strongest general carry out a mundane execution against an opponent who can't fight back... just because you blundered and let a whole host of some of the strongest pirates in the world into your plaza. Using executioners and doing things by the book even when actively under attack maintains the appearance of the Navy's strength. Having Sengoku or an admiral execute Ace would be akin to executing a real-world criminal using an intercontinental ballistic missile. Does it get the job done? Yes. Does it send the right message? ...probably not.
