I understand the underlying message that Oda wanted to portray and loyalty Ace had, but yeah, imo it's the one L of the Marineford Arc. I understand how huge this death is for Luffy's character, but it was also very out of character for Ace to die like that.

I mean, if you look at the upcoming post-Marineford arc, you’ll be able to understand his actions at least a little. Of course, it was a foolish move that disregarded the efforts of those who came to save him, but I think it was still an action that fit his character.

we are fan of one piece and back then when this episode came out, it wasnt a foolish move as we can analyse it now, and back then one piece was not meant to be this long as it is now, so the rythme needed to be that way, because it was and it is a shonen, and as a shonen the main charactere need to go through this. And the script code of a shonen made it to have this moment, and if one piece was over earlier it wouldnt really a problem the way Ace died, but because it's not over yet even now, made a little more a L move at the end.

Ace the same guy that went against Whitebeard orders and went by himself to kill Blackbeard,the same guy that beat up a bunch of pirates because they where talking shit about him and Roger,the same guy that blow his cover in a marine base because a random marine was talking shit about Whitebeard,did you even watch/read One Piece??,Ace was always like this,and hot head,super emotional person,he is a flawed character,or does character to be good need s to be perfect?? Are we has human beings perfect?,do we not have flaws? One Piece characters are realistic and that's beautiful thing about Oda writing,he writes characters that make mistakes,that are over emotional,that are naive etc..

Is not a problem in the 1st place at all,the way he died is completely in character for him,he a emotional,hot head fool,that's how Oda wrote him,not every characther need to always make the right decision,he is a flawed character,like other s characters you have in One Piece,Oda is not afraid of making his character with flaws,we have flaws too as human beers and we pay the consequences for our flaws,that's what happen with Ace,his foolish actions had consequences
