NO WAYYYY!!!! I thought I would never see u guys watch dragon ball 🥹 my first anime I watched 👏 PEAKKK

Raden

I feel like a kid again watching this and its been so long, rewatching with you guys seems like the perfect time. RIP to the 🐐 Akira Toriyama

Brandocommando

This was the show that started my anime journey back in 1999 glad you guys are finally watching it

271katbest

The manga goes at a break-necking pace while the anime slows it down with filler/padding mixed with the canon episodes. It’s one of those rare anime’s where the filler doesn’t mess with the product. The slower pace actually helps with bonding with the characters.

William Glasgow

I have like a 10% chance of riding this all the way through but definitely here for the early support

MBA

Now you guys get to experience what got most of us into anime 😎

Kyle Turman

I'm glad I stayed after Jojo, I love DB. But PLEASE react soon to Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe, it's a short mini-series spun off from Jojo's. It's amazing

Ben Stephenson

you know, I grew up on Dragonball Z but I actually never watched Dragonball. I guess, thanks to you guys, I'll do that with you now :D

Kyle Turman

Also just to add, both the Sub and the Dub are good imo. You can't go wrong

Kamil H-H

Im excited to rewatch DB for the first time with u guys! I was 14 when i first watched it during the covid lockdown 😅

IcoNIC

Ayyyyyeee first time watcher. Excited for this journey 🔥

juan collado

You guys have no idea the amazing story you just started ❤️

Victor

OMG, it’s the first time I’m hearing the English version and what the hell is this?!?! Do people actually prefer this version over the Japanese one?? 😨 How is this possible?? They don't even feel like the same characters as in the Japanese version

King Tut

Goku is inspired by waking the monkey king and I'm pretty sure luffy personality is inspired by kid goku

nyxscripts

also when you guys finish og dragon ball, i reccemend watching Dragon Ball Z Kai since its better animation / pacing and skips so many fillers from og Dragon Ball Z, but its up to you guys

Dadundudun

Omg it totally is Awkwafina! 🤣

Volt

Slower pace and filler aren't really the same thing, I agree that some of the filler helps with character bonding but bad pacing doesn't help with that.

Yoshi

I think Sub is better to feel the characters emotions

Brandon Solerr

actual ragebait. 90% of people watch dragon ball, dbz and dbs in dub btw.

Jibby

Dragon ball is still ongoing. But its not all one show like one piece. There is dragon ball(1986-89), dragon ball z(1989-96), dragon ball GT(1996-97, but not canon) and dragon ball super (2015-18, coming back next year for new arc). But all eps from the shows are around same amount of eps of OG naruto and naruto shippuden combined (which are 720 eps, 429 canon eps) dragon ball franchise is total of 629 eps(540 canon eps, less since Dragon ball GT isnt canon) there are other shows but the ones mentioned are most important ones. In my opinion, if that clears length of dragon ball

Mando23

Dub 100% better I’ve seen both

Brandon Solerr

Thank god your watching it in dub, dragon ball z and onward need to be watched in dub too. The sub is trash.

Volt

I agree that the sub is better but you can criticize the dub while being more respectful towards people who like the dub more

Usher

If you didn't get introduced to this as a kid this reaction makes sense. Most of us did, and tbf this dub is good regardless imo.

XoDanii

Goku is based on the Monkey King, Son Goku, that's why his staff may seem familiar.

Harug_

Good lord this sounds bad lmao

victoria t

AHHHHHHHH THE OG SERIES IS HERE

Brian

Dragon Ball was notoriously poorly preserved and has had bad home releases. If you're willing to sail the seven seas, you can find better video and Japanese audio tracks. (No, it's not just the recording is old. It's really in awful condition.) Speaking of the Japanese audio: people have a lot of nostalgia for the English dub(s). So do I. And it's got it's own cultural impact. If your audience wants you to watch that, then go for it. But you've gotta understand that DB, DBZ, and DBGT were dubbed at a very different time. The point was to serve something to American kids, fealty to the source material be damned. Think of Pokemon changing onigiri to jelly donuts. Also, Iirc, no one involved in the actual dubbing knew anything about Japanese and they didn't have access to the original audio, so transliterations are weird and pronunciations are bad. You're gonna miss puns on English words. You're gonna get lines with stuff that was just made up for the dub, and you're gonna get stuff from the Japanese left out. And you're gonna miss insert songs that they couldn't get licensed. Possible middle ground? Listen to the dub and keep the subs on at the same time. That might suck though Idk

Minato Kuba

Oh how long ive waited!!!!

victoria t

OG dragon ball is so unhinged 😂 that’s the 80s for ya LOOOL

victoria t

THE DUB IS PURE COMEDY WHAT ARE YOU ON??? Also the sub’s audio is pure garbage

Minato Kuba

Btw about the dub and sub debate, at the end of the day u guys do what u wanna do! U r never gonna please 100% of ur audience cuz both have their strengths. But as a person who is fluent in both English and Japanese, I loved what flexie ended up doing. She started with dub and switched to sub in the middle. The dub gives it a light, funny feeling which aligns with the beginning but, without spoiling too much, the show becomes pretty dark from the middle and thats where I personally think the Japanese actors did pretty good!

TheRoyalMhozy HD

if you do sub , luffy voice actor is one of the main characters

Mando23

For all the ones who remembered back when this and dbz were on toonami. It was my favorite show as a little kid. I would be so excited for the next weeks episode. What a time to be alive! It’s amazing you guys are reacting to it!

271katbest

The added filler moments slows the pace down. *MINOR SPOLIER* ( not really but wanted to be careful anyways) An example of this is when the gang is in Pilaf’s castle and they’re trapped in a pinball trap room, that’s like 10 minutes of added filler when this isn’t present in the manga. It’s mixed in with the canon event. There are many examples of this.

Hunter

"it feels like a kid show" oh dont worry it won't feel that way for long lol esp when u get to dragon ball z

KevUrb

Toriyama was also the illustrator of Chrono Trigger, IMO one of the greatest games of all time

victoria t

“Son Goku” is the Japanese translation of the Chinese “Sun Wukong”. That’s why Goku is a monkey boy with the extending power pole, because early Dragon Ball is very loosely based on the Chinese story “Journey to the West” in which Sun Wukong, the power pole, floating cloud, etc are all from.

Coconut

People are mad but for someone that English is my second language this trows me off lmao.

jibset2000

im so glad your watching in english, i forgot how stunning the animation is. beautiful still shots

Indifferent Denji

Bro we need baki reactions ik the animation isnt for everyone i still think ron would enjoy tf out of the themes in the show its like jojos+mma

redxiii

Dragon ball is heavily inspired by journey to the west and Goku is basically Sun Wukong the Monkey King

King Kai

Boy I miss the days when anime was painted watercolors.

Kayso

This is so nostalgic, takes you back to Saturday morning cartoons eating cereal. Cartoon Network/Toonami. Also had the Dragon Ball CDs when I was little. Good old times. Similar to Michelle when it came to FMAB my memory is hazy when it comes to db/dbz. I watched it up to a certain point and forgot where I left off so essentially rewatching to refresh my memory. Gonna be a great journey. I feel y'all will enjoy dub more for obvious reasons. Also a more relaxed and chill reaction and the jokes are so funny in English

Indifferent Denji

Everyone hating on the dub but i honestly think its not that bad im a sub guy but older dubs have that charm to them where they seem to genuinely be having fun and i appreciate that.

Just_a_guy

Can't believe this is happening. So fucking sick! Goku will be your favorite mc one day

fredy santos

danm I feel no emotion in the dub version they should've watched it in sub even the songs are more iconic in sub

Str8vib3s

we are ready to start another goated week of rice and ginger

King Kai

Or played the best game of all Crono Trigger. Artwork by Akira Toriyama. There’s a 30 min special “DBZ vs Toriko vs Onepiece “ special crossover. That have nothing to do with the storyline but cool to watch. See the trailer and if you want to watch the whole thing.

WhitehairedSatoruGojo

I believe Goku is around 8-10 no really sure. Goku is the only human with a Tail. There are many humanoid animals but they are from earth. Gohan found Goku in the forest he adopted him they aint related.

The_Wolion_Official

If I'm not mistaken, I think Goku is 10 years old and Bulma is 16 years old at the start of Dragon Ball

Carter San

If we're gonna go down a 90s OG rabbit hole, I'm starting my campaign for Yu Yu Hakusho right now!

3-Stacks

When is yuyu Hakusho and Gundam coming?

Mario Garcia

It is ongoing but after dragon ball Z ended it took a 15 or 20yrs break then it came back. It was a huge deal when Akira toriyama started to write more dragon ball again. It's not like one piece thats been ongoing since 1999 non stop.

Itatchis left toe

We need double drops eventually this will be the top show easily on the channel

David Barron

A friend of mine who streams used to call her BF her step-bro at his request whenever he was around. He said he didn't want to tank her male audience count. 😂

Lue009

Dragonball and drgonball z is super popular in Mexico dragon ball z awesome anime Hope you guys watch the movies on the way of this journey

kirk poss

Huge day! Are we going all the way to Dragon Ball Super?

CoreSoulRU Q

Thank you for not trying to act like yall never heard or seen anything dragonball related. LOL

Fetus God

2 eps drops please

Tingz

Yep this is a big drop besides the big 3! Naruto, OP and Bleach most definitely . You'll see some of the inspirations as the godfather of shounen.

Tingz

And here yall go with bitchin about dub and wanting sub like they dont watch every other anime in sub gone somewhere wit that please dont start

GrimiusYT

Michell acting like she doesn’t know goku we know you’ve seen it g

Tingz

Don't start....

Nero Luv

Goku IS based on Sun-Wukong (Son-Goku in Japan) they share a few things.

José Flete

damn this anime has like 300 years i literally forgot everything of this " season " i only remember from dragon ball z on, its gonna be great watching it with you guys again

Tacosareneat

Michelle when you were asking if this show gets deep, everything Ron said is accurate. This show is the godfather of shonen anime. You will see elements of everything you've ever loved in a shonen anime in dragon ball.

Alex

The padding definitely messes with the product, but there's not as much padding in DB, until it gets bad in DBZ. I don't know that there's much filler in it at all.

Hector Tavares

One thing that might help you understand the spirit of Dragon Ball is not expecting a very complex or deeply layered plot. Some people may disagree because they’re attached to nostalgia and find meaning in it on their own, which is valid. But according to Akira Toriyama himself, the plot was simple: “Dragon Ball’s story was intentionally straightforward and simple” — Oda/Toriyama Long Interview - The Grand Line. Instead of aiming for complex plots or major moral lessons, the author focused on what he called pure entertainment. He also said he had a lot of fun drawing the characters and that plot was absolutely secondary. Some people might get offended, but that was the author’s own view. And in my opinion, that’s not a flaw. It was very fun at the time, and it inspired and captivated an entire generation, not only in Japan but all over the world.

Hector Tavares

Brandon Solerr, 99% of people watched it dubbed, but in their native languages. So probably a lot of people in this community who aren’t native English speakers, like me, will find the English dub strange. I still don’t know if it’s good or bad—for me, it just sounds different :D

WaB_ Bigvai

thank you for not being psychos and watching it in sub lol this is the only anime that I say it is a must watch in dub. Subbed is so unbearable especially once you get to Super. I can't stand the noises they make when fighting in the the sub version lol

Kurofi

It's also like the Monkey King Enma from Naruto when he extends as a stick haha

Kurofi

I watched it all in japanese as a kid so the English is very jarring but the comedy is funny so I'm willing to give it a try! I do prefer sub for almost all Japanese anime but DBZ is possibly the only exception.

wheezin365

i cannot unhear awkwafina lol

Vinsmoke D. Lorenzo

You can’t say the sub is trash just because it’s your preference. Neither sub or dub is trash, but the sub is faithful to the source material meanwhile the dub takes plenty of liberties and is heavily censored for American kids, kind of like how Yugioh is a completely different show between English and Japanese

EmeraldYonko

LET'S GOOOO!!!! GET READY FOR A WILD ADVENTURE GUYS!!!!!!

Grasqe

hell nah

IcoNIC

Okay so bulma is weird lmao wasnt expecting that but here we go lol

TheRealJayron

ya'll should try The Eminence in Shadow (subbed)

vxctorrr

All dubs are good except the Spain Spanish dub

leisuresoccer

Wow haven't heard this op for so long, brings back so many memories. Good luck watching it's another long journey.

Lorenzo

Whenever dbz content is dropped, the cartel activity in Mexico also drops significantly, this show is top 3 in culture of all shows

Faytale

So glad you’re watching this is dub 🙏🏽😭

Brandon Debrosse

Just calculated how long it'll take to get to Z, and with their breaks and everything, itll be around a year and 3 weeks if they keep the same 3 eps a week schedule Then another 2 years and one week to finish z Then 47 weeks for super Then around 23 weeks for GT if they watch that Then around 7 weeks for Daima So a little over 4 and a half years to finish the series assuming they take 4 week-long breaks a year

Berry

to all the people saying the dub is better are flat out wrong. as it was pointed out by another comment, the dub took many many liberties on changing dialogue which changes characterization and story details . EX. 1 is bulma says her name is very elegant, which is far from the truth because her name is a pun on "bloomers" and she doesnt like her name, which is why goku laughs and he doesnt even say his full name which is Son Goku. and the monster doesnt say happy meal. now this dont matter much and are funny yes but just not the from the source material and more important stuff is change later of course. so im not talking about the voice acting but the dialogue which has funny lines but are changed. Dub is just objectively worse but they can watch it however they like

Loony

Your bugging if you think DB sub trash

Fawaaz Daniels

Its only americans who prefer the english version. It makes no sense why you cant enjoy it in its native language that it was intended as.

Maks Lesniewski

Jesus fucking Christ, people. Who cares if they watch sub or dub? If you dislike the dub, don't watch it.

Quitzx1

the fucking chuds in the comments are so weird, we get it, the dub is good. Why does that mean you automatically have to shit on the sub. You're ruining the mood for everyone else. Plus you cant really compare sub to dub when there's like 10 years apart in voice acting.

Centt

OMG!! I literally tear up when the opening is playing

LuvStarburst

I watched this back in the 90's when i was a kid and really didn't know how raunchy it was, but it's still one of the greatest animes I've seen to this day.

gdnsx

LETS FREAKIN GO

MichaelD99

After Dragon Ball Z this will be your #1 anime for sure!

Tingz

Would you say the same if ppl were bashing dub? More ppl bash dub than sub overall and hating dub is way more acceptable. Also I see WAY more people in the complaining about dub/them not watching sub. I barely see anyone bashing the sub. Some people are bothered that they are praising dub only (not bashing sub) so they complain so you should give your energy to them

Ynfeli

Letssss GOOOOOO!!

DRoger

Thanks Michelle, now every time I see Bulma talking I think of Officer Jenny-with an attitude~ 👮‍♀️🤣

SpiderPigHero

Start of the adventure of a life time and now here instead of just with Brandon lol.. Fun fact since you mentioned it already but Goku translated from Japanese to Chinese literally means Wukong and comes from "Journey to the West" which is a huge story in the East and is the main inspiration for the story. You will see references to a bunch of Western inspirations from this time such as Star Wars, Terminator, Bruce Lee films, etc.. You also mentions Dragon Quest and while none of the characters are important to Dragon Ball, they will put random Dragon Quest characters in the background

Harug_

Not to mention that the opening/ending theme and OSTs were changed which also changes the entire feel of the show, and gives it a more childish vibe overall. The emotions are also lost in certain scenes because of the voice acting where instead of being drawn in and feeling for the character, you sort of have to make the connection that, yes, I'm supposed to feel this way here. To each their own I guess, I respect everyone's preferences but let's not be disingenuous and say that the original is worse than the cover

DRoger

Only time the sub wins is in Super bc they made Goku sound more stupid in the dub rather than childish as he's supposed to be lol

Chris

so excited for this journey and a new dragonball super ist coming to

Berry

Wdym by the last thing you said "the original is worse than the cover". What's the cover?

Suf

bruh his voice sounds AI af

Terry Askren

Dragon ball is a joy like no other. I love this show like no other. Enjoy

Aron Lukunku

Hey guys! Just wanted to say I’m really excited to see you start Dragon Ball 😊 I’ve been following along with your One Piece reactions and it’s been a lot of fun watching your journey through that series. Dragon Ball is very special to me personally, so seeing you experience it for the first time is honestly something I’m looking forward to. It’s one of those series that had a huge impact on anime and manga as a whole, and eventually you’ll probably start noticing some sound effects, tropes, and ideas that made their way into so many other series. Most of all though, I hope you just have fun with it. Looking forward to following the adventure with you guys!

Alex

Just so you know, this is an old dub and they take liberties with the dialogue like many old dubs did to "prepare" the show for western audiences. There's a lot of nostalgia for the dub though.

zoro xz

DB sub is so peak fym

Mando23

Facts! Well for me it’s dragonball and code geass I prefer Eng dub

Quitzx1

No I agree. Bashing either of the two is weird. You're fine to not like it and even point out the bad things. But to clown people for liking either one or making a whole statement of how shit the other one is and that you're so fucking happy that they chose one over the other, just puts a sour taste in peoples mouth.

Spunkbutter

I’m so excited to go on this journey with yall!! Can’t wait for Z!! I haven’t watched these series since I was a kid!

Ben

Dub DB and DBZ >>

Okeykid780 Okea

This bout to change yall lives the big 3 is Nothing!!!

Leon yagami

Good thing we got the Kai dub

AlexR

I dont know this US version but I heard that's come from early's 2000 in your country and they didnt used the original OST from Kikuchi right ? it's sad ...

Nas Young

Life feels easier now that yall started this🥹

DVX

Oh my greatness, I cannot fathom that we are starting DBZ

Usukhbayar Gurbazar

Daang the OG Dragon ball is here!!!! I wish for triple drops, fast forward to Z/GT Godspeed 😁😁🫠👊🫡 Good luck on the journey y’ll. I grew on the series along with Naruto. But this has to have the Legendary status. Toriyama is just HIM. The hands on this series are Elite the choreography the introduction the building, the comedy aspect is so chilling as well. Just takes you to those times immediately for a brief moment, it’s crazzzz can’t wait y’ll. The series is deep yll as it progresses. It may seem like a an anime but it tells us a lot about japan and tech and I love Dragon ball

Fellerz

Was wondering why I didn't see it, subscription ran out lol

Fellerz

Crazy Brandon finish DB and starting Z and now they are Starting DB!

Fellerz

Second this!

SpiderPigHero

GTA meme "aww sht here we go again"

Lynchbread

As much as I love the dub (that's what I grew up with), having read the manga and watched the entire series in both sub/dub, the dub takes wayyyyyyy to many liberties with the story for me to recommend it to anyone for a first time watch

Lynchbread

This comment is 100% on point. Please listen to this person if you want to have a much more enjoyable experience with the show

David Zapata

Surprised you guys chose the dub instead of sub, though in my case i prefer the latinamerica (mexico) dub and sub.

SkyesRain

vast majority of Dragon Ball fans who fell in love with the series fell in love with the dub dude and with the OG dub for DBZ this is what the vast majority grew up with get use to it and they are far better then the japanese sorry to break it to you the japanese only gets it's love cause it's an old lady voicing Goku which for many can be very annoying and off putting

SkyesRain

@Vinsmoke just because some have preference to sub doesn't mean that the sub being trash isn't true. so many have preference to KAI 🤮🤮🤮 yet it is by far the worst one compared to OG which the vast majority of actual DBZ fans grew up with prefer and are correct and have been for years. hell even Ocean Dub DBZ is better then KAI just because something is faithful to the source material doesn't make it better. hell again another perfectly great example Sailor Moon remake with the new voices sucks balls compared to the OG Sailor Moon many other examples. DB sub lovers, Kai lovers, faithful source lovers need to give it a rest you have lost countless times just let it go this is the correct way to watch DB, DBZ with OG Dub pure and simple

Fellerz

@skyesRain you need to grow out of that Nostalgia feeling dude. OG Z DUB Dialogue is ASS and a joke. You only love OG Z because around episode 70s the OST that Scott Morgan, Mike Smith, and Julius Debus made and all you Bruce Faulcanor stans calling it the faulconer score when it isnt even his music lol I watched them all too SUB & DUB + OGZ & Kai.

B.G.

Dub? Oh hell nah! 😭

B.G.

The dub is made for kids and will always feel like a kid show.

B.G.

He's 12 and Bulma is 14.

B.G.

They are 12 and 14.

B.G.

"Does it get deep" Tbh, not that deep. The stakes get very high (VERY high much later on), but you won't need write shit down and you won't be needing (hardly) any tissues either. It's funny, action packed and very entertaining nonetheless.

The_Wolion_Official

I just checked and Goku is 12 years old but Bulma is 16 years old like I mentioned at the start of the series

Idris A

Yall should watch in dub to be honest, that's what most folk grew up on

Angel34ByMax 1

I just found out that you guys started dragon ball no way let’s gooooo I got Patreon just for this 🗣️🔥🔥🔥

Jrunb

Sub and dub are both good, but for Americans who grew with the dub it hits nostalgia hard, when you get to Dragon Ball Z y’all should consider the Bruce Faulconer score, the music adds a different intensity and vibe, a lot of us who watched the dub on toonami experienced it for the first time that way, definitely a cool time

MajinVegeta420

Unironically. The literal GOAT. Both this and DBZ and the franchise / series' as a whole. Anyone who disagrees simply hasn't seen them. As someone that loves and has watched ya'll for years I already know for a fact you're going to BEYOND love it and BEYOND LOVE and RANT about all its messages/life lessons/lessons in general lol XD < 3 going to be such a fun and great journey. this and Z are without a doubt going to take the top spot for you like you were saying at the beginning discussion for countless reasons that im struggling to not rant about and spoil lmfao.

Usukhbayar Gurbazar

Kai isn’t necessary at all. On top of that the voiceover isn’t same as Z and music that comes with it from Bruce Falconer. If you wanna in the side of it’s “manga adapted version” Kai’s dialogue’s aren’t at the same level as Z. And is no difference in the at all

Jesse NOreligionNO

Hajime no Ippo is my top 5 of all time, it would be higher if it actually went further than it does.

LizudemAm

The vast majority isn't American or English-speaking either (I know I'm way too late with my comment lol)

LizudemAm

The vast majority isn't English speaking...

Majin

Can you guys watch DBZ Kai in dub please.

Chase023

I'll be frank.. only reason I upgraded membershiop was for dragonball. It will be a fun journey. By the way, Dubbed or subbed, either is fine for dragonball IMO, tho most anime I do prefer subbed. Anyways Thanks for taking up dragonball.. I hope to see other older anime. By the way I hope u guys get over the gags and lecherous stuff. It's not that deep and more for funny haha. I have more to say about that but i'll keep it short for now. Again Hurray!

Hassan Khan

okay I've seen Dragon Ball Z but never the original this shit is wild lmao
