Natural Selection (Patreon)

Take a uniform we associate with power, progress, and civilisation. Then place it in a field.
The suit carries a language we have learned to read: masculinity, authority, professionalism, wealth, success. None of these meanings are inherent in the fabric; we weave them into it, reinforce them, and eventually mistake them for something natural.
Against grass and earth, those meanings become less certain. The body is revealed beneath the architecture of the suit; dressed and exposed begin to bleed into one another. Masculine and feminine coexist. The cultivated meets what we perceive as natural, yet even the landscape complicates the distinction: this is not untouched wilderness, but land already shaped by human intervention.
The thought behind Natural Selection is a question: how much of what we call "natural" actually is? And how much have we simply repeated for so long that we've forgotten we invented it?
