Hazelnut Latte v0.16.2 Progress Report 2 (Patreon)
Content
Greetings and welcome to another Progress Report!
Frisbee has drafted most of the script for the next update! Once I get the demo out the door next week, I will do the final pass so we can start building the scenes.
We still have just 1 sprite done for the next update, but we think we can skip the other 2 for now and do them later. We have been tweaking old sprites to fit the new style we debuted with Maki. We fixed Jamie and Hazel, and we want to fix Charlene and Max before the demo goes live.
Pamika drew backgrounds for 5 special moments that needed them. We have 3 backgrounds left before she can go back to drawing scene backgrounds.
Not much else has been done, mainly because Lotus and I have been working on reducing the game's file size and improving performance. We've been doing a lot of research, tweaking settings, and rethinking how we display some assets to cut down the file size.
I have been redoing how the gallery images are displayed, especially the concept art section. As you may know, when you view concept art, 1 unlock may hold 8 images. This is cool because it shows how we make something. However, each one is an image we store, and you have to click through to see it. Now, we're going to use concept art to reduce the number of images. This means less clicking and less storage space.
This is just the Ep 1 Concept Art folder, but that alone saved us 78MB. Less images, better storage, smaller game. We are building this game for PCs first, but we know many of you are mobile users, so we're trying to keep the game as light as possible.
Demo Prep Week
This week we are prepping for the new demo that releases in 1 week!
I still have some gallery file-saving things to do, but I am done tweaking the script. I originally wanted to do a giant fix, but I think I'm just being nitpicky. It's a great script. So I added 1 new bit of convo with Hazel that I had forgotten, and I'm calling it a day.
I am also going on the Sexy Business Podcast to hype up the demo and talk about my experience restarting the game, so keep an eye out for that.
I also want to make some promotional stuff, but we'll see if I have the time.
The demo will hopefully get a lot of eyes on the game since we are going to let the public play all of the new Episode 1. If all goes well, we can get more revenue and hire another animator!
Wrap Up
Things are looking good! I got back to writing Episode 3 last week and did some major organizing. With the releases and big things happening, Episode 3 has been marching ever closer, which is exciting and scary. I need to finish that dang script ASAP. But I also need to work on Episode 2. This juggling act is fun.
Stay tuned for the new demo next week AND v0.16.1 drops for $10 backers tomorrow!
Thank you all for the continued support and stay Rad!
