Been excited for this all week, Guys. Love this episode and i hope you are enjoying the show. Btw i don't think i have said it before but i have always loved the video set up. It feels less Zoom Call and more like you guys are rooms apart almost. EDIT: also Sean mentioning Shadow of the Colossus, My favourite Game ever!

InnerCityIndigo

Yea I had the same critique regarding the swallowing of Armin. They even added the sound of his fading muffled scream. I don't know why they'd force that visual just to be like "Nahh Eren made it in time". The scene was already intense, there'd be no need to do that. It almost seemed like Armin getting swallowed was the original idea, then the director changed his mind but didn't want to re-draw any frames.

I think the Answer to this is "Anime" like Sometimes they will just stop to talk for 5 minutes as someone is right behind them and the dude is in the same place when they finish talking, they just take liberties with that stuff all the time lol

Michelle

attack on titan is really good with its continuity actually. stuff from the very first episodes comes back even in the last seasons. the weird time stuff is just an anime thing in general. this was after all a manga (IE, comicbook) before it was animated, so stuff like this happens.

Brimmy

ok well i didn't know this either so i googled it myself and "Males do not have penises, and from the outside male and female birds sexual equipment looks the same. Both male and female birds have a cloaca or avian vent. This is an opening just below the tail which lets sperm, eggs, feces and urine out" Good to know...so when u get shit on by a bird....*blinks*....i don't wanna think about it lmao

KillaKill

Morgan getting her first dose of anime time and it broke her immersion! A funny video I'd suggest watching is "How Time Be Moving in Anime" by RDCworld1.

Beowolf Chow

It's a masterful fake out, having the audience think Eren was the main character for 5 episodes, when really it's about how his insane drive leaves a mark on the people he left behind. Driving Armin and Mikasa to do amazing things in his memory as the real protagonists. It's sort of the overarching theme of the show; that while life is cruel and random, and takes people away from us suddenly, as long as we strive for their goals and act in their memory, they're never lost to us. RIP Eren, gone but never forgotten.

Brimmy

lmao yes i agree: armin was already going down the throat of santa titan??? and then we get a backstory of eren and then suddenly one legged eren is in the mouth grabbing armin??? like if u don't think about it much it makes sense but if u sit there and be like \wtf just happened???\ u unravel all the magic of everything XD 18:39 a titan jumped up and ate eren's leg which caused him to beef it on the roof tops and then chaos ensued and now eren is dead in the belly of a titan missing an arm and a leg The real main character(s) were Armin and Mikasa all along o.o OH the one that just slurped that one guy down was called an abnormal because it didn't act like a normal titan since it literally jumped through the air to get to the scouts

Lana

I think you guys comparing Eren’s…. passion(?) to Anakin’s kinda makes sense. 😂

Lana
>>67852217

Yes, RIP Eren. 💔 But, now we can proceed to the real main character: Mikasa.

It’s like all of the best things in life, but not in this context when the birds are shitting on you or your stuff

SeanTankTop
>>67859079

Stares through the brow, needs to get laid more often, dead mother, a lot of anger with nowhere to put it, says crazy platitudes, admittedly kicks a ton of ass when the time comes.

Lana
>>67859079

Wants to be a “soldier” to save their world, and don’t forget all the shouting! But yes, they’re both legends all the same.

Johnny

watch the english dub to emerge you guys in the show and be able to understand it a bit more. The sub is incredible but the English dub is good too.

amberrr

for anime, usually things happening internally happen before the event happens. if that makes sense haha. but great another reaction! can't wait to see number 6

Mitchell Blomquist

Please don't watch the English dubs. Japanese is such a beautiful language that it would be a far larger crime to bandy crude words with a witless translating worm than to read in subtitles the closest approximation to what the original author intended.

The sheer cinematic scope of SotC blew my mind back in the day!! And yeah, as far as the set up, it took awhile for us to really nail down the format and get really comfortable with it, that said, we had a year+ to do so! Now it’s almost better as to the sound quality, though shooting in the same room would be simply easier to edit.

Michelle
>>67859079

Eren goes through a lot of emotional growth over the series and his mentality/morality gets challenged and deconstructed a lot though, whereas Anakin I feel like he just kinda switches from annoying and overconfident to angry very sudden in the third movie, and then him believing such an odviously manipulative evil dude without question really makes him look like a dummie lol. And, no offense to Anakin's actor but Eren's VA puts in a lot more work to make him feel alive through all those emotions.

Lana
>>67859079

Don’t get me wrong tho my respect for Yuki Kaji and his voice acting is through the roof. Yes, no offense, but Hayden cannot compare hahaha. As for Eren’s emotional growth idk what you’re talking about since he died in the episode 🥲😉

a_26

I agree^

As someone who speaks Japanese and prefers subs: I think it’s perfectly fine for them to watch the English dub, especially if it helps them get into the show more. They seem to be new to anime. In the future, if they do more shows, I definitely hope they’ll do subs and experience the shows in their original language. But for now, the dub is fine IMO. I’d rather them just be digging the show. And yes, anime time 🤣 I loved all the comments about it!

>>67869407

It’s not like the AOT dub is shitty like other dubs (Naruto, OHSHC, etc).

SeanTankTop

The Dub v Sub thing is interesting but a question: Does it seem like we’re not “getting into” the show enough? Or what are people who are suggesting the Dub talking about? No shade, but like I think we’re easing into the story just fine. There’s a GoT level amount of characters and I think we make some mistakes but, nothing too crazy. People keep saying this and I find it interesting and would l love to be illuminated.

Definitely stick to subs for this one. The English cast is pretty good, no shade to them. But this anime especially has a lot of yelling and passionate speeches that feel kind of weird in English, in my opinion. When I watched it in Japanese I was really into it… in English I was just thinking wait was there always this much yelling? Lol. I think the only anime I can think of where the dub adds a lot to the experience is Death Note and maybe FMA: Brotherhood.

Josef Beck

In my opinion the Dub for this show is fine. As with most new anime the quality is up there. I personally watched sub, english dub and german dub and was fine all the way! Enjoy the content the way you want XD

Buse
>>67869518

the translation processes for dubs and subs are different. subs are more faithful to the original but translators change some of the dialogue to make it sound more 'natural' to native speakers when translating the dub version. (whether they achieve that or not is debatable but that's usually the goal lmao) english dub for this anime is not bad but the japanese cast does such a phenomenal job especially in seasons 3 and 4. i think you guys should stick to subs for aot

Calvin Delaney
>>67869518

I don't think there is an Issue Sean, i have watched this show 6 times all the way through and i think you are doing fine picking things up, nobody knows what is going on in the first 5 episodes.

Indexsage

damn i want next episode so bad

Michelle
>>67869518

I often think that especially for english, the intent in the japanese direction doesnt really work, even if the VAs are really good. I feel like languages like spanish for example do much more accurate dubbings of Anime because they have that ingrained passion just like Japanese ya know? But Attack on Titan does have a ton of dialogue that unless you're paying really close attention, you're gonna miss stuff. but the really important things usually get repeated, so dont worry.

Alejandro Gil
>>67860389

What are you guys talking about? they haven't complained once about the subtitles? lol

Kiki Meowzilla
>>67869518

I don't think it's that you are not getting into the show, you guys are plenty excited and it's great to see, if I am understanding the comments some people feel like in the process of reading the subs you may miss some of the animation and details that move VERY fast in this show. As someone who has seen you through watching ATLA, I think people just need to be more patient, and as you all get the hang of everything you will miss fewer things. But definitely, it took me 2 watches to catch everything and details I definitely missed and added to the story. This is a show that you have to watch everything because it clues you in and adds to the story in some way. Keep up the amazing work guys, really enjoying this!

Matthew Morales

I love you guys so much, cannot wait for you guys to get further. Such an amazing show that only gets better and better.

SeanTankTop
>>67869518

OH FOR SURE! It just comes up a lot and I just wanted to pick people's brain about it! Thank you so much for the kind words!

Beowolf Chow
>>67860411

I get you, it's as if the first thing the audience sees, is the "oh shit, I'm gonna die" moment that flashes through the character's mind. For anyone who has ever fallen off a ladder, maybe you'll know what that's like. "Seeing" yourself fall a fraction of a second ahead of your actual fall, is your brain going "Hey dumbass, THIS is what's gonna happen, DO SOMETHING!". That's the kind explanation of course, rather than the more cynical (and likely) "They're building tension before the commercial break so that you tune back in." But, I for one like my illusions.

amberrr
>>67860411

no i think you explained it pretty well! it's like the memories of the characters happen in a spilt second unlike what the length of the memory is.

amberrr
>>67869518

just saw this but please don't think we are disappointed with your reactions! i think you guys are getting into the show just fine. in my opinion, the japanese cast is amazing. truly one of best voice acting i've heard. usually people who say "dub vs sub" are people who argue about which is better. i've watched animes with great dub and some with great sub. don't worry guys. just keep going at your pace and enjoy the ride!

dannydarko27
>>67869518

I honestly love both the sub and the dub. The problems arise with me having to sync hulu on my tablet while screen sharing my phone to the tv. I can usually make out the show with my peripherals but reading on screen with different subs than the ones I have throws me for a loop. But honestly this is one of those me problems and y'all definitely worth the hassle lol

dannydarko27
>>67869407

I first started watching anime in spanish, so I switch between subs and different dubs while loving them all. Imagine they just start watching the anime in Italian. That would make the dub vs sub moot and just be hilarious

dannydarko27
>>67874150

You should reccomend the German dub so the people who want subs get there subs, and the people who want dubbed get a dubbed 🤣
