Hi friends,

in this new fingerstyle lesson, I explored the sound of some beautiful chords, starting with D major.

The exercise isn't difficult, but pay attention to the last part, where I used an unusual fingering.

Happy playing!

I like your idea of calling this "finger style" where my training calls it Classical "arpeggio" right hand technique. The fingers are correctly labeled i-m-a-c. i being the index-m being the middle finger-a being the ring finger- c the 4th(pinky) finger -the thumb being "p". Strings are numbers in circles. This makes it less confusing. Your idea is great but it could really confuse those who want to experience more universal complex training .

Hi Peter, the term "classical arpeggio" would be better used for classical music played on a classical guitar. Fingerstyle, on the other hand, refers to all other music that can be played with the fingers, on a classical or acoustic guitar. For example, blues, new age, bossa nova, jazz, or Chet Atkins alternating bass style.

Music is music The notes are the same. The fingering notation is the same on all string guitarters. There is no real classical guitar they all have six strings. They can be played on electrical or wood. . The notes and strings are the same. The word classical goes back many years and refers to the type of music at that time. morer modern music has many different slykes like you said jazz, rock and roll , flamingo, acoustic is a style of music played on many instalments. If you really know your music you would that Chet Akins is a student of classical guitar like so many great modern day and past day players. Glen Campbell to name another. Most those styles are in studies in rhythm not playing technique. I can play bosa nova, jazz, new age on my guitar. You know that old wood guitar with 6 strings just send me the score with or with out tabs. have you ever check out the craftsmanship of wood guitars Some cost more than a house. I am not against you just be honest with your following and give them the correct info. You never know one of them may be the next next star.

Well, I can give you examples of many guitarists who have never played classical music and have never learned the basic technique of classical guitar. For example, Merle Travis and all the blues guitarists. They play fingerstyle but have never gone to a teacher to learn classical arpeggio. And in fact, their technique is completely wrong compared to what it should be for classical arpeggio. I prefer to keep the two separate, even if there are some similarities, as you mentioned.
