Now that we've launched Pachter Factor Live we don't ask for questions anywhere near as often as we used to. In fact, this is just the fifth call for questions in 2025! While it undoubtedly makes the show more timely to tackle the big topic of each week with the new spinoff show, your opportunities to get into the show are much more limited. So make sure you get your questions in when you get the chance!

The Switch 2 looks to be fading after a strong launch with units sitting on store shelves. Console exclusives are becoming a thing of the past, so which platform is primed to thrive in this new environment? Game developers are being fired after sharing their personal opinions. EA's Battlefield franchise looks like it might finally be able to compete with Call of Duty. Microsoft just raised prices of its consoles for the second time this year. Video games are being blamed for real world violence again. Sony finally just showed Insomniac's Wolverine game, but it's not coming until fall 2026 and PS5 exclusives look thin for the next 12 months. Nintendo is bringing back the once-failed Virual Boy platform. Xbox's "PC" handheld sold out in less than an hour at $600 and $1000.

This is just a dusting of everything that's going on in the industry right now. It's a great time to be picking the brain of our resident financial expert, Michael Pachter! He's here to answer your questions about all of it! As usual, try to ask some questions that will be interesting both now and weeks from now. Thanks to everyone who takes a minute to ask a question or two. The show is coming up on completing its tenth season! That wouldn't be possible without all of you!

Hi Pach! Given the seemingly negative trajectory of the console business, do you think any of the Big 3 (MS, Sony, Nintendo) may change their next generation plans?

Levikonn

Hey Pach! Been a long time Patreon supporter of the show, but I have an observation and am curious as to what your response may be. It seems as if you are occasionally uninformed on the game business happenings outside of larger, typically publicly traded companies (I.e. being unaware that “Team Cherry” is actually only 2 guys plus a few hired contractors for additional support). Are you interested in the games business from a developer standpoint as well, or do you view things mostly through a business lens?

What's going to happen with EA when they go private?

Manuel Nascimento

Hey Pach, My read is EA was slowly dwindling the past years, many studios closed and dormant IPs accumulated. Only some games like FIFA and Madden kept going, but even that wasn't a big prospect as before. As such, what sense does it make to buyout EA? How is that going to help it makemore money and pay out the added burden of the 20b $USD loan? Extra question: why do these acquisition deals spend so much money on just exchanging ownership, instead of putting down money to invest in actual work by devs to make products to sell and generate revenue? Cheers

Hey Pach! What are your thoughts on the new/large increase to Game Pass? Is this MS accepting defeat in that space? How can Xbox regain momentum from both that and the console increase?

Tarma

Hey Pach! This has definitely been an eventful year, hasn't it? Lol. Given recent happenings with Xbox, what is the likelihood that Xbox is in genuine trouble? Xbox being dropped by retailers isn't a great sign, nor is a sudden price hike in Gamepass for Day 1 releases. And as of now at least, cancellations for Gamepass seem to be spiking. Even if Gamepass were to go to other devices like TVs, I can't see how they can sustain the library they would need to maintain the service at a rate people would care about enough to subscribe.
