Hey everyone! First of all thank you for all your support! Appreciate you so much and never take being able to do this for a living for granted. I work a lot of hours, but it's all worth it if you're enjoying the content we produce!

We've been creating a much shorter version of GameFace called TLDR for four months now. It may be surprising to hear, but it's a lot of work chopping a three-hour show down to an hour and enhancing it with better graphics and B roll. I'm very proud of the show and feel it really simmers down something that's awesome into something much slicker and more purposeful. It seems like some of you have been watching the show, but it's been a relatively small percentage of our patrons.

So I'm here to ask you fine people if you would prefer that we do something else with that time (resource). Our patrons are our priority. So if you'd prefer to get something else let us know in the poll. No hard feelings either way! Nothing makes us feel better than making content that you love. Keep in mind that all the segments we shuffle into The Shane Satterfield Show will keep coming.

I've never watched or listened to TLDR. In general I don't watch GamFace either as I listen to the audio version. So I vote for the video review, but honestly, as long as you're doing GameFace, you'll have my patronage.

El Duderino

Take the day back and enjoy yourself, Shane. I am here for the full GameFace experience every week.

Henry Ramirez

If you decide to keep doing GF TLDR make another channel like Matt suggested

Jeff Lin

I voted for shorter clips only because that feels like the least amount of work and the highest potential to gain new viewers.

twodaydrunk

A video review or podcast would be ideal, but only if it doesn’t add to your workload in a big way. I think Matt is right in that you care way too much about video production. I get that you have high standards and I appreciate all the B-roll work on GameFace, but the reality is a very small percentage cares about the level of production. The proof is in the most-popular video-game podcasts not having any of that. I really think the first step is being ok with lower production value—meaning make new content that doesn’t require you to sit in the editing bay for hours and hours after shooting. You’re just gonna burn yourself out and get frustrated the new content isn’t picking up steam.

TheGundamBatman

Yeah I mean I appreciate the intent behind TLDR, but personally I have never and will never watch it. I'm here for the 3 hour show. (I selected podcast btw)

Patrick Perez Dominguez

I think a game review every two weeks would be fine. You do alot already on a weekly basis

Devan Fava

I cant vote none of the above? That all just sounds like more work that is putting too much stress on Shane I think leave the lineup how it is but remove TLDR It's unnecessary when you can just add chapter breaks to the live show

Devan Fava

I somewhat disagree about the Broll I think it adds a lot to the podcast

Aj Watson

Whatever The Decision, Good Luck. I Voted For The Video Review.

Roger

Me too. I dont have a strong opinion about this but thought the same about gaining new viewers.

Wolseyenz

I'm one of those people that listens to Gameface while I am at my job so I prefer the long version as it helps pass the time at work and I get to hear all of you and Matt's thoughts on every topic. I never listen to TLDR so I wouldn't mind you cutting it in favor of other content.

Nick Moran

I appreciate TLDR, as I listen to it when I am at the gym. It is hard for me to listen to a 3 hrs podcast in chunks. Those are my 2 cents for what it is worth

I'll post the same thing here as I did on the Patreon: TLDR doesn't do anything for me personally my only wish was that it would help out getting new views, but clearly it hasn't. So either new people aren't interested in it, or it doesn't have a chance to show up in their algorithms because it's not on a new channel. If you do decide to go the clips route, seeing as you tried it before and it didn't work because of how it was interfering with algorithm on channel. And if I remember right you saying it ended up becoming the same number of people in total with less on the main show. And because of how the main show is Patreon exclusive when it first comes out. Forcing the main channel to become a clips channel while only having the main show appear on the pinned home channel page and podcast list. Then the only way I see the clips having a chance at working to gain new viewers would be to create a SIFTD Clips channel. A channel that would have zero delay in terms of being unlisted where you can get whichever big topic it is that week out there to try to catch the waves. As I find myself now regularly being pushed new channels that have a low as double digit views with the algorithm seemingly trying to give a mix push of established subscribed channels and new ones. So maybe you could get lucky that way. And then link the full version of the show to YT membership, Patreon, the site for the full version. And on the clips channel in addition to getting to the important topic first. Gives you the ability to post funny side tangents, that sometimes happen depending on the week. Or when you guys start talking about something crazy that happend at your previous jobs that are often also a bit more evergreen. If you just do the clips on the regular channel and you hold it back so that something big doesn't get to be as topical as it should have been. I fear you will just make a lot of extra work and not get anything back for it compared to if you were able to try and start something fresh. Mind you it's not a guarantee it would work either, but clearly putting new things on the main channel doesn't do anything. In terms of video reviews. What would the idea be, take the review from that weeks show and clip it? Or do an actual good old fashioned video review that comes out when everyone else releases their reviews in the same 12-24 hour window? Cause wouldn't that require you a lot more time? Seeing as depending on the length of the game and the amount of things you need to talk about that week. Most games you don't get to finish by the time GF is ready (understandably so, I'm not making an accusation of laziness). Though if this would give you the extra time needed to do 1 regular review per week, then maybe make a second SIFTD Review Channel could work in bringing in new people. Again no guarantee and stiff competition even if it was on a stand alone channel. But this might be where your previous career might do you some good. Maybe you'll can brainstorm ideas of coming up with a way that keeps the core of a video review of what people expect. While adding your own imprint on it. And then you could also end each review by comparing the score you give, to what the Metacritic is in that moment. Bringing up the Fantasy League along with it. Who knows maybe that could get people to seek out the site? If the question is what do I as a Patreon sub want you to do with the extra time you get from not doing TL:DR. Since it wasn't able to get you new viewers. And if trying a new channel is out of the question. I feel you should take back that extra time and enjoy yourself however you see fit. Be it do nothing at all except relax. Maybe its a week with a game you want to spend more time with that couldn't cause you were too busy editing. Catch up with a movie or show you've wanted to see, spend some extra time with your wife. If you really REALLY feel want to do something extra cause you get antsy by having that extra spare time, feeling you need to fill it with something productive. Maybe answer 2 questions on the Shane Satterfield show instead of just 1. But if you feel like you have to add something because you think you are taking away something from us by not doing TLDR anymore. I obviously can't speak for everyone but I certainly wouldn't feel it that way. I only had the show run from start to finish when I woke up in the morning doing my routine to try and help out with the views and engagement. I watch the regular GF spread across the week. And as for a suggestion to GameFace itself. Have you thought about removing the episode number on YouTube, but keep the episode number count on the SIFTD site? And just add the date of the episode? For some, it can be daunting when they see a high number like that even if they know that it's not like you won't get what you are talking about in that weeks show if they didn't watch episode 125 , 246, and 389. But psychologically, it can have an effect.

Always enjoy a good review, so a video review would be my choice. I don't watch TLDR because I watch the full version.

Simon Wallace

I voted another podcast but would also be happy if you just took the time for yourself. I love Gameface but only listen to the podcast version so the video production doesn't do anything for me. I only go and check the video version when I hear that Luna is in the show. 🐈‍⬛️

JPRESS311

Shane, why dont you use your 25 years of experience to reach out to ANY podcast out there and discuss your new show TLDR. That what Jason Schreier does to promote his new books. Thats what actors do to promote new releases. Just a thought.

Tyler

I really enjoy the production value of Gameface but would be more than happy with lower production for new content.

Tyler

I watch the full version every week so TLDR doesn't do anything for me. I'd happily exchange that for something else. I guess I'd prefer another podcast type thing over a video review (I feel like I get what I need review wise from Gameface) but anything is awesome!

Steen Johannsen

I use Gameface as a way to follow the news in the gaming industry. I don’t really care about reviews. I love the podcast and have been following along as a founding member. I also wish Shane could take a day of, but I know it’s not that simple. I have great respect for the guy 💪👏🫂

Hey Shane, Day 1 backer here. I appreciate the slavish amount of work you and Matt put into GameFace, but the current ROI on your labor is upside down. You are burning hours on TV-polished editing for TLDR that the audience isn't demanding. (Full disclosure: I used Google Gemini to help clean up and polish my thoughts here, but only after dumping a massive wall of context and having the AI rigorously critique and stress-test my instincts against modern YouTube data to ensure this pivot is grounded in reality). Here is a blunt structural critique and a blueprint to scale GameFace while saving your sanity: 1. Kill TLDR; Pivot to "Quick & Dirty" Chapters Drop the highly produced 1-hour version. It’s a massive resource sink. The reality of modern YouTube is that audiences treat long-form content as functional audio—they listen while doing other things; they don't need slick B-roll. The Fix: Upload the full 3-hour flagship show first for the hardcore crowd (to everyone! not just backers). Then, over the following days, simply extract the 20-to-30-minute main topics or big reviews and upload them as raw, standalone chapter videos directly on the main channel. No extra editing, no visual polish—just quick cuts of the main event to act as entry points for casual viewers without splitting your audience onto secondary channels. 2. Radical Simplification of YouTube Strategy Stop trying to invent new shows to get discovered. Double down on the core asset: GameFace. Name Clean-up: Ensure the main channel is explicitly branded as "GameFace." Shorts over Specs: Use the time saved from killing TLDR to clip the best, high-conviction moments from the main pod into YouTube Shorts. Keep the algorithm velocity concentrated in one place. You do not need a seperate YouTube channel for these, this used to be the case 5 years ago but it's not necessary anymore. 3. Modernize the Tooling & Low-Cost Support You are doing too much manual heavy lifting. You need a modern tech stack and low-friction leverage: Automation: Utilize simultaneous distribution software to manage multi-platform publishing instantly. AI Clipping: Implement AI tools to auto-detect high-engagement hooks from the 3-hour recording and generate Shorts automatically (I assume this software exists and is part of the above software). Arbitrage Labor: Hire a low-cost virtual assistant or intern for 6 months to handle the manual uploads and asset shuffling. If it doesn't net out a positive ROI in half a year, cut it, my thinking is that the above aren't costs you have to commit to, you can drop them whenever you like reducing risk. 4. Siftd.net Growth Siftd is a brilliant aggregator for hardcore gamers, but it needs visibility, not more content. It needs modern SEO/GEO and contextual ad placement. Promotional assets can be made in a pinch with AI tools now, hell, give me a 6s and 15s vid and I'll put them across the web for you and pay for some of the ads. We discussed a while back and we got stuck on tracking technology, honestly skip this for now and just get your bloody brand out there! Bottom line: Stop working for the content machine and start making the distribution architecture work for you. Drop the production vanity, leverage software, and focus entirely on getting the main asset in front of the right eyeballs. Mate, love what you're doing, would love for the rest of the gaming world to see your work too, we're all rooting for you!

Good Short form content is surprisingly really time and energy intensive
