Sony announced that it will stop producing disc-based PlayStation games in 2028, but could another company jump in and make them instead?

The decision to stop making physical discs by Sony is like Pachter said a profit deal. I wish Sony would make an equivalent Criterion line of selective games like Lost in Cult recently started in the UK for indies and for $89.99 you get a curated physical special package with the physical disc that has all patches after the game has been available digitally for a six months to a year. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo also goes this route on their next gen console or enhances their physical presence as that will give them a competitive advantage, particularly with the new generation that enjoys physical media.
