v.0.30 Progress report (VIII) (Patreon)
Content
I was overoptimistic about the huge scene I told you about in last week’s progress report.
I knew it was going to be big, thinking around 400-500 words per girl. So, I planned for around 10,000 words. Yes, it was big in my mind. I even thought that, in the table of contents, maybe I should add a new category for scenes over 10,000 words (the Huge category covers anything beyond 5,000 words, but a scene with 5,100 words is not the same as a scene with 10,100).
I missed my calculations. By 50%. The scene ended up being a bit over 15,000 words (and it isn’t translated yet, so the translation will add 4-7% more words). Some of the sub-scenes went out of hand. And I even optimized the repeating text in code (learning a couple of things about Ren’py in the process) to avoid bloating the numbers.
Long story short, I finished writing that Gargantuan scene (from now on, the category of scenes over 10,000 words) yesterday, but I just started rendering it. More dialogue means more renders, and my plans for 10,000 words included around 600 renders, but they have ended up being over 910 images. I have only had time to do 93.
Summarizing, the update currently has over 31,200 words in Spanish (around 33,000 words in English once translated), 2,494 dialogue lines, and 1,856 (tagged) renders (819 to do, yet). No animations have been added this week.
Next week, I will only work a couple of days at my job, so I hope to have the scene finished during the week and try to finish the next scene too. It will be big, but a lot smaller than the gargantuan one. The issue is that you know me. I start writing, and a scene can grow 50% from the planned size.
