Patreon once again doing Patreon-ish things (Patreon)

I've been informed Patreon is witch-hunting Discord servers that have things that don't comply with their ToS. So I disconnected my Discord server from Patreon. I'm sorry you lost your roles and fancy colors there. If any of you want their role back on Discord, please write me there.

I'm totally against this witch-hunt on services that don't have anything to do with Patreon. What will be next? Will they come to my home to see if I have anything that is against their ToS?

That’s… really kinda creepy and invasive. I imagine their spiel is, it’s connected to us, soooo… which just means they should never have offered the service in the first place. I don’t use discord, but that really is outrageous.

Totally agree. They have my adress and, using the same logic, they could think they have any right to say what I can or I can't do at my home.

Patreon and others are getting more and more restrictive, if it wasnt for the money that Devs make by having patrons here supporting them I bet everybody would leave this site, and others that are acting this way. It hinders Devs creativity, it´s becoming more and more similar to a fascist regime, whats next? concentration camps??

If they make it hard for creators to monetize their adult works they will accomplish two things. Losing a lot of money (Adult creators, not only games, provide them around 26% of their public income), and that someone sees the chance to create another platform with fewer arbitrary restrictions.

That’s my point… when corporations start dictating “morality” it’s a scary slippery slope. Bad enough governments are trying to do it… bad enough having to stomach the fascists and christo-fascists supporting and demanding it… wonder when will discord hobble their code to placate “one million moms” and their sick ilk… ugh I’m all riled up now and this doesn’t even really affect me.

The issue is that (without intending any offense to religious people) "morality" always has been dictated by corporations. Different kinds of corporations, but corporations nonetheless. Based in Rome, Jerusalem, Mecca, or wherever. Complying with a "morality" because of fear (fear of losing PayPal as a payment processor, for example) doesn't make anyone a better person. It only makes that person a hypocrite if they wouldn't comply with that "morality" if that fear didn't exist.

Their ToS are so ambiguous that they could go against any dev if they want. They have a clause about "morality", and morality is a subjective thing. If they want, they can say I'm writing hate speech against people who like pink because I make jokes about Emma.

Agree. Everyone has their own morality, and writing a so ambiguous term on their ToS is their way to say "We can do whatever we want".

My grandparents were kids when they came to the US. They had to...change religions to get into the country. The US wasn't accepting Jewish refugees because they didn't want to piss off Hitler!!

I was born in a still dictatorial Spain in 1972 (dictatorship ended between '75 and '78 depending on who you ask), so I'm not fond of fascism and dictatorships. I'm all for freedom of choice.

I was only 3 when he died in '75, and almost 6 when the democratic Constitution was voted, so I didn't suffer the dictatorship a lot, only the consequences of 40 years of dictatorship that left my country as a backwater place.

Patreon is sounding a lot like the Chinese government. From what people that come here from China tell me, in total confidence I add, is that if someone speaks out against the government they could end of disappearing.

Patreon ToS Witch hunt = Zyklon B. It is suffocating how much Patreon ruin for creators and such and to get an account reviewed on SS can take years

SS should take a step forward and get their stuff together if they want to be a credible rival for Patreon. I was lucky and my account there was approved in less than a month, but I know devs who have been waiting for more than 6 months.

I was lucky with the family I was born into. A blue-collar family that worked to give my brother and me everything they lacked in their youth. My parents were born in the first years after the Civil War and suffered a lot, with their mother languages (Catalan in my father's case, and Euskera in my mother's) forbidden in public use and a lot of other things. They worked hard to prevent their children from experiencing the same.

A patron told me they were banning devs because of their Discord contents. I heard it's been 6 devs or so, so better play safe. They are pushing an already strained community to abandon them or do vanilla games. Dumb.
