Something I don't usually share — but this month I'm committed to studying and growing, and I want to bring you along for the ride.

I took the opportunity to do a proper style study for the upcoming comic featuring Minthara, Astarion, and Durge. The goal was to figure out the visual direction before diving into actual pages — because the lineart style isn't just an aesthetic choice, it defines the whole feel of a comic. How thick the lines are, how much variation there is between thick and thin strokes, how much room there is to breathe and be expressive… it all shapes the reading experience.

And obviously, I grabbed our beloved vampire as the test subject. I mean. He's gorgeous. There's really no argument to be made.

I tested 6 different types of lineart — some familiar, some more experimental. The milli pen and the thin oval, for example, were more about exploring a style I'm still developing: they produce finer, more delicate lines, great for detail work (the wallpapers are drawn with the milli pen, actually!). The G-pen is what I currently use for Tortini — it gives clean, well-defined lines and reads really well on the page, but it doesn't leave much room for looseness or spontaneity. I wanted to see what happens when I push outside of that.

The study helped me understand not just what looks good, but what feels right to draw — which matters just as much in the long run.

So… think you can tell which one I'll end up going with?

Quindi… riuscite a indovinare quale stile avrò scelto?

It's so interesting how they all look different! I really like the lighter pencil look.

Pastel Warriors

Right? They change a lot, even though I'm still the one doing the drawing in the end 🤣 Anyway, well said 👀 The lighter pencil beats them all (even though I'm still attached to the G-pen) 🔥
