Comics Updates (Patreon)

Well, yes, the time has come—I have to talk about it. I’m taking off my Pastelwarriors armor, and this is Bea speaking :3
Some of you have already heard this news. But now it’s time to make it official.
Tortini is taking a break.
I’m really sorry because I’m attached to it, and I know many of you feel the same way… but sometimes you have to make choices that go beyond certain feelings.
How long will you be putting it on hiatus, and why?
It’s for an indefinite period—it’s not goodbye for now—and I realize that a lot of things are left hanging; we’re a third of the way through the comic. Let’s just say we’d barely scratched the surface of the bigger issues, but…
There are many reasons, but mainly two, and one is a consequence of the other:
-Tortini is a project that started many years ago and began without any pretensions of being professional, but it was something that came about during the 2021 pandemic while we were in quarantine playing the Baldur’s Gate 3 demo (oh my gosh, what memories, haha). It has some major issues: the script was originally conceived as a short adventure, not something this big, and since it also came about somewhat by chance—as a story told between me and Max (my boyfriend)—it had to adapt as the project grew. Also, the art style is inconsistent and doesn’t live up to my current drawing skills (I mean, the later panels do, but the early ones—absolutely NOT). Here, too, the style has evolved over time to match my artistic growth, but now… I’d have to redraw it, and that brings us to the second point:
-In January 2026, I started working as a full-time artist, which comes with all the implications that entails.
I’ll be completely honest with you: I no longer have a steady paycheck from a part-time job, so now I can’t spend time on projects I love but that won’t pay the bills—unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury, especially since projects like Tortini are really time-consuming, and before they start generating enough income to support me... it takes a long time—I’d have to dedicate myself SOLELY to that, and I can’t afford to do that.
To give you an idea, one panel of Tortini, with the style it entails, takes 3 days a week—24 hours of work… but I’ll talk more about that in a future post where I’ll tell you a bit about the life of an artist :) and I’ll get to that in a moment… Making comics is a long process—you have to think about the script (thanks, Max), dialogue, layout, panel spacing, sketches, and then you start drawing 🤣 but over time I’ve shown you what that entails, so you know what I’m talking about :3
So what am I going to do?
Patreon will continue as usual. Instead of “Tortini,” I’ll be creating short comics with different characters and settings (for now, we have Minthara, but there will also be comics set in the world of Winnie—I’ve already shared some lore and characters from that world—and more to come over time :3), both to add variety and to experiment with styles, stories, and plots.
I’d also like to share a little more about life as an artist, use the world of illustration and comics to express my perspective on the world, be more present as Bea, and give a little more space to the artist in me—to share and help people discover aspects of my work and what it means to live as a digital artist… and then
There’s also another thing that’s more personal for now… namely, I’m working on a comic book project to pitch to a publisher. I’ve finally started developing the style and story for something that I hope will one day be on the shelves of a bookstore :3
I don’t know how it will turn out, but if it does… obviously, my artistic life will change. We’ll talk about it again in a few months.
I want to thank you all for all the support you’ve given Tortini; I thank you for what you give me every day. You know I’m not just saying this because I have to, but because I’m truly grateful to you.
I hope you’ll decide to keep walking this path with me so we can really see what we’ll be able to achieve together.
Thanks for everything. See you soon!
Bea
A presto!Bea
