Hi, everyone!

I hope your week went as well as possible :3

Today I’d like to share with you a little piece of my artistic life that means the world to me.

Well… I’ve gone back to studying. More specifically, I enrolled in Quadra Academy’s “Fundamentals of Digital Painting” course. Yes, you heard right, haha—it’s actually a beginner’s course.

Quadra Academy is an online school for digital painting and concept art. I decided to choose this school specifically because it has instructors who work for major companies like Magic, Blizzard, Ubisoft, and Riot Games (and I could go on and on, haha). So, I think I can safely say that right now it’s one of the best art schools you can find in Italy.

But Pastel, why are you taking a beginner’s course if you already know how to draw?

First of all, I’m starting from the general premise that an artist must always keep studying and improving to raise the quality of their work.

The reason I wanted to start “from scratch,” though, is that unfortunately, I’ve taken courses and private lessons that left me with a very fragmented and disorganized education (and no, art high school doesn’t even count, alas!).

Of course, that’s understandable, because years ago I didn’t know which direction I was heading in, so I started with smaller things and worked my way up to slightly more advanced courses, eventually taking private lessons in comics and coloring while I was working on my comic.

However, I’ve always taken the basics for granted, or just given them a quick review because I never had the time or energy to really focus on them properly.

But how can you improve if you don’t have a solid foundation?

It’s like saying, “I want to go to the gym and lift 50 kg!” but doing the exercise the wrong way… not only will I never be able to lift 50 kg that way, but I also risk doing the exercises incorrectly and, as a result, not improving at all.

So here’s the thing: I’ve decided to stop making all these excuses and tackle the basics once and for all, to start my journey over from scratch.

Obviously, I’ll have to put in a lot of effort to make this happen: to stick with the gym analogy, if you pay for a membership but then don’t go work out, there’s no point in spending the money. The same goes for the course I’m taking.

I want to dedicate myself—and dedicate the time it takes—to grow, because now I know which direction I want to take: I want art to truly be a part of my life. I really want to take this seriously. I want it to continue being my full-time job so I can bring an ever-increasing number of characters, stories, and worlds to life.

Those of you who’ve been following me for a while (some of you have even been here for years) already know how my art has changed. Well, I hope to show you that I can reach even greater heights. Even for those of you who are new here, I hope you’ll see a different, more skilled, and capable artist in just a few months.

So, as always, thank you for your support, it’s what allows me to do all of this… and yes, even to study! After all, that’s part of what being a “patron” means :)

I’d say I’ve said enough for now; soon I’d like to post some of my practice pieces here on Patreon (if they aren’t too terrible, lol—I’m a bit embarrassed) or at least tell you how it’s going :D (spoiler: the learning phase includes a moment when you think that instead of improving, you’re actually getting even worse than before—it’ll be sooo much fun….)

Then, if all goes well, I might even have some other great news soon, but before I say anything, I’d rather have confirmed information :o so… stay tuned!

Kisses :D

Ciao gente!

Bacinii :D
