I sometimes find myself missing the times when things made sense, when the objective was clear and Adam's Bionics-fu was often enough to solve most problems.

I feel similarly. I do really like the fantastical elements of the fic, but sometimes I think takes just a little too much precedence over the more grounded aspects of the setting.
