Garrett Vacation 🔪💖🩸

Thank you for introducing Record Club, Shawn! It has been something of a checkpoint to what was the most chaotic and important year of my life. I sincerely believe I wouldn't have made it this far in life without Mega64 and for that I am eternally grateful. I love you boys! 🖤 2024 is going to fuck. 💿💿💿.𝟓/𝟓

Last week when Garrett pulled this album: oh, I only need to listen to this once to refresh my memory This morning, listening to Never Mind the Bollocks for the 8th time in the last seven days: oops lol Looking back, The Sex Pistols made rock music for cringy edgelords and were/are incredibly shitty but they also were encouraged to be douche bags by their manager because he thrived on controversy. (Said manager, Malcolm McLaren was also responsible for some of the less savory aspects of Bow Wow Wow and I believe The New York Dolls going communist, among other things). Not to take away their free will or anything, the MO was to be as crude and disruptive as possible - and look cool doing it lol A fun fact about John Lydon is he appeared on Masked Singer and it was unmistakably SO. HIM. Another is that he also made news a few years ago because his pet squirrel bit him. My favorite Sex Pistols song is, and always will be, Pretty Vacant. My only complaint about the album is that Liar and Problem occupy same ‘space’ for me and either should have been sequenced further apart or ditch one or the other. Happy New Year, Record Clubbers! See you in 2024 for Roxy Music!

In the film "SLC Punk" the Sex Pistols are referenced in the part about who started punk music

That's very sweet of you! Happy new year to you too, and I'll catch ya on the next one! ^_^ 💖

Sex Pistols especially in attitude are detrimental to the punk movement at that time in England. However, The Ramones and The Damned were both before this band both in the U.K. and the U.S. and very very much punk rock. ALL of them are also largely influenced by The Stooges who were a U.S. band way back in 1969. If you consider their music and Iggy Pop’s famous stage presence then you know they are for sure the progenitors of real punk rock.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I've loved doing this show and learning more about music. Appreciate everyone here who listens and comments. You are all the best! -Shawn

It’s been a great year of record club! This show has legit been one of the highlights of the week for me. Rolling Stones picks might suck sometimes but the show never does. Thanks for doing the show Shawn, excited for another year of music 👍

Sex Pistols was one of those bands I heard or saw growing up but never actually listened to any of their music. Just finished the album it’s definitely not my cup of tea lol.

Sex pistols have always been on the "have to listen to" list, but I never got around to it. I'm definitely into it. Shitty people, great album. 4-4.5/5 for me. Jorge Ben is great! But idk if I can handle more Roxy Music right now. We'll see how this goes

If this helps tempt you, there’s a song about a blow-up doll on this Roxy Music album lol

Catching up after the holidays. Happy New Year. This album rips. Some of the lyrics show their age in ugly ways, but the influence is impossible to deny. Always glad to see Garrett on here!
