Hurray! Hey Litch, I got a question for ya. Will the grove be exclusively 3D from now on?

3D is definitely the way I'm headed right now, so every work will be focused in that direction. I'm not ruling out having some elements of drawing in it too, but that will depend on the circumstance.

With all due respect I may withdraw my support in that case. I made the pledge in the first place to support your unique art style (hence my constant questions about The Apprentice). But if that's going away in favor of some rendering program that anyone could use I don't see the point in continuing support. I hope that doesn't sound harsh.

Hi TSN, I'd be sorry to see you go, though I appreciate that you took the time to explain rather than just leave. It is true that 3D programs have become cheap and public enough that “anyone” can use them; however that is also true of pencils and paper, so technically “anyone” can draw. While the pen and paper artist focus’ on line style and visual cohesion, using 3D programs requires attention to more filmic elements, such as camera aperture, mis en scene and framing. To my eyes one is not superior to the other, they both require specific skills and are simply tools for my primary objective – storytelling. If anything I’ve spent more time in my life doing the filmic elements than the drawn, as outside of Patreon I work in television and have a university degree in 3D animation. I knew that shifting my focus to 3D may be controversial, and you’re more than welcome to move on if drawn 2D images are where your interests lie - in the end, this is all about supporting what you want to see more of. As for The Apprentice, my current plan is to recreate it and continue it using said 3D technology. Thanks for the support you’ve given so far and you’ll always be able to find my old drawn works on the Grove.
