Oh, this one is sweet! Rally makes me think about how you mentioned I being able to just say extreme things & move on was a big part of their relationship. (Which is interesting because, I think the more normative approach is to allow Astarion time to heal from a clusterfuck up environment and become less reactionary.) Here I feel we get to see what an affectionate, chaotic relationship is like a few years out. Faerun seems to be pretty gender-normative on dress, so Astarion getting to play around with fabrics/ cuts he likes (without being treated subhuman) . He's also getting to be utterly flithy with what he says and just over the top. (Side note: I really love that about your Astarion. Sometimes when our traits become coping mechanisms, it can feel like part of our personality becomes subverted by its usefulness to survive. Astarion playing the rake kept him alive, but I think he's a natural peacock. It's wonderful to get to see him spreading the metaphorical feathers because he knows he enjoys it, not because the clock is ticking and he needs to lure in a victim with them.) And Drow is just...here for it. Like, yes, it makes sense someone with *urges* could find comfort and affection in someone else who also has strong conflicting feelings. But instead of asking him to average out, what I love about your work is it's more radical acceptance. The shades don't get more even-kneeled- no, I think they got off the walls bolder and weirder. Astarion might not have the sun (IDK your lovely fanfic is not remotely over so we will see what happens) but it feels like Drow lights up his life beautifully. (And for that he deserves a very good %C#* until he's spilling !%x$ out of his lovely little smiling mouth.)
