Welp, one year later, we can finally continue this story. Unfortunately only sketches for now, and just talking... which is originally a reason why i choose this comic as the contest winner of the last story contest, as the writing was really good, but back then i intended to do a page like every week...and not have a 1 year hiatus....

But i can tell you, after this comic i will never use this style of drawing faces ever again. It's really difficult for me to do.

This also made me think of drawing other giantess stuff while continuing this comic, something with a style i am more comfortable with.

Yay happy to see this back again :) forgive my artistic ignorance, what is the style of the faces that is hard vs how you’d do it elsewhere?

Kenshin Hikigane

I’m also curious on the artistic process that makes this way more difficult.

It's probably not very noticeable, but the style i use for this story is slightly more realistic than my usual more anime style. The most problematic are the headshapes and the eyes. You see, as for the headshapes, normally in anime the silhouette of a humans face is much simpler, with much less, let's say, anchor points. Sure the lines are smoothed out so it wouldn't look like geometric shapes in math class, but it's still a very basic shape. And most importantly the eyes. Smaller eyes need much more precise precission to make them correctly, as far as rotation, position and shape goes. Normally with big anime eyes(even though my usual eyes are not even that big compared to other anime, it's still a big difference towards this one here) you can use every other part of the face to judge where one part of the eye has to start and the other to end. The proportions are all given by the rest of the head. But with eyes as small as realistic eyes, it's much more difficult. You see a similar problem even with professional artist. Whenever they have to draw a larger image, instead of a small panel, they start to screw up, because they can't look at the whole image with one glance anymore, thus they don't have the references anymore.

Thanks for taking the time to explain, that’s interesting to know. I’d not have really realised one was that much harder than the other, outside of perhaps the plain requirement for more accuracy with realistic faces. Disregarding difficulty or amount of work, what is your preferred style?

Kibate

My usual style, i.e. more anime-ish. While i do try to go for realism whenever i train my art skills, my preferred style will always be...i was going to say "anime", but my usual style is something of a mix between anime, realism and cartoons. Subconsciously i tried to get the best out of all until it looks like the way i like it^^

Gershwin

Would you say the "My Girlfriends Mum" artwork represents that? That had a good amount of realism in it's manga/anime styling.

Kibate

Yeah, pretty much. Of course, i am still experimenting to this day, but at the moment the style in MGM is what i like the most.
