Today I am releasing my new comic What the Dumbwaiter Hides:

 What the Dumbwaiter Hides
Thomas Jefferson invented the dumbwaiter to hide the slaves that he used to run his mansion. Today, we use the ‘dumbwaiter’ of globalisation to hide the dark parts of our supply chains.

As always, thank you for your patronage, which allowed me to draw this over the course of the last 3 months!

What the Dumbwaiter Hides - comic by Stuart McMillen

Thomas Jefferson invented the dumbwaiter to hide the slaves that he used to run his mansion. Today, we use the 'dumbwaiter' of globalisation to hide the dark parts of our supply chains. Also read my blog post Behind the Dumbwaiter , which includes more information about how I developed the Jefferson/dumbwaiter concept as the basis for a comic, and a list of further reading.

Great job on this one, another must read, and must share kind of comic. I feel like the end would be a great place for people to find more info, or find companies trying to do better. One part of me thinks it's a bad idea, but the other part of me knows how much I appreciated being told about Everlane clothing company. I just didn't know where to buy stuff before. Maybe suggest search terms like fair trade, or suggest companies trying to make conflict free phones like fair phone.

I loved this! An idea i've been brewing is a symbol or a movement we can rally behind - something like veganism.. or feminism. I ask every artist and writer who's interested in it.. how would you go about culturally propgating an "ism" that communicates global environmental responsibility?
