Hey! So glad you liked ONF. They're actually 3rd gen and switched companies fairly recently. I got into them because Minkyun originally competed in No Mercy (the show that formed Monsta X) and I followed him to Road to Kingdom, where I fell in love with ONF and Pentagon. I will have to request the "It's Raining" performance sometime. It's crazy good! I got to see them in concert, and it's probably still my favorite to this day. Their manager personally came up to us before the concert and asked us if we were enjoying the show and if we had any problems getting in. I was so touched by his dedication and will forever remember it.

Also Minkyun's WOODZ covers are perfection.

If you do any Fromis follow ups, the Music Bank performance from this last week is fun!

I didn’t know people were shocked by the concept of Animal? Do some people not realize this is Katseyes formula? Their sound? 1. Experimental Track 2. Radio Track 3. Album 1. Debut (not as experimental but definitely NOT touch) 2. Touch 3. The album 1. Gnarly 2. Gabriella 3. The album 1. Pinky up 2. Animal 3. The album Katseye has a pattern of release so I didn’t realize other people were shocked that this is a “typical” pop song lolololol

I think people hold KATSEYE to an impossible standard. They release fun, unserious music and people immediately trash it. Fans say they want more vocals, so they release Animals, and suddenly it’s, “KATSEYE has no sound.” The girls say they want to do R&B, then social media complains that every girl group is doing R&B. At this point, it feels like no matter what they do, someone will find a reason to criticize it. I honestly just feel bad for the girls because they’re constantly trying to meet expectations that keep changing. It’s not even just a KATSEYE problem, genuinely social media has become a place where people are so focused to tear artists down no matter what they put out.

Actually the Inkigayoi one is fire 🔥 too

re: the JYP age-appropriateness thing, you've got me thinking about my own inequitable view of Kylie Minogue vs Madonna. I'm a straight male in his 40s who spent their formative childhood in southern Europe (intermixed with the US South), so I grew up with (and retain) a fondness for Eurodance music, of which a lot of '80s pop music (and later, K-Pop) stems from. I've closely followed Kylie over the decades, been to her rare US tours, and I still think she's "got it." But then I look at Madonna, who is indisputably an icon (and arguably THE capital-I Icon), and for like the past 15 to 20 years, I think "miss ma'am, you're doing too much." Where does the discrepancy in my acceptance lie? Why do I see one as continuing elegantly and the other as being try-hard, when they are both making the same kind of music and utilizing the same kind of visual direction? I DO think JYP is self-aware and veers towards campiness. That comes across whenever he's doing interviews, variety appearances, and dance challenges. He intermixes and/or alternates earnest and self-deprecating in his videos, for decades and decades. Look how he's almost always playing the fool when guesting in JYPE group songs. But I think for this one, being the theme song for this year's Waterbomb, the "assignment" dictated that it be taken deadly-seriously and played straight. As one example of self-awareness and long-form self-analysis, he even used a whole episode of The Seasons w/ Akmu as a post-mortem and redux of the infamously sour Blue Dragon performance.

And what timing... After another rare on-stage meeting this weekend, turns out Madonna and Kylie are finally having a collab song, albeit a remix of Love Sensation, rather than a wholly standalone thing. Curious to hear the studio version because the YT recording of the concert I saw didn't have great sound.
