Maya

Thank you for sharing your stories. Bullying is such a problem, and I definitely agree that most bullying happens because of the perceived “isolation/difference” people have of others. Your example of a lot of people on the spectrum being bullied exactly because they don’t fit into the arbitrary rules set up by neurotypical individuals is so on the mark. Because people target vulnerable people. The main character wasn’t “normal” to his bullies. He didn’t fit in, was very blunt with his responses, had no friends, and as a result, was targeted. Bullies, unfortunately, are very aware of the “lines” of what is acceptable, and target the ones that don’t fit in. That’s why most of the bullying I see in this show is accurate. It’s about the subtle glances, cocky responses, attempted charisma with such cruel intentions.

Jo

Si-eun, the main guy, is actually an idol in real life and his role model is V.

Malena

yaaayy I've been waiting for you to watch this!!! i definitely get the being uncomfortable with the violent fight, i felt it too so just a heads up: it gets worse🫠 so being completely honest this drama is definitely not for the weak. i personally liked it because of the characters and the way they progress mentally, i found that very interesting in the way they were portrayed, and also the actors are amazing! i look forward to your analysis throughout the episodes!!

H

It’s always the latest shows that win. I know this is season 1 but ppl brought it up because season 2 came out. Can we give a chance to ones that have been request for last year or so please.

Maay

LETS GOO 🫶

bizarre☆azar

anyone correct me if I’m wrong—but I heard that my boy, Si-eun’s slap scene was ad-libbed

Yves Silver

Still waiting on reply 1988.

Thank you for sharing your stories. I remember a lot of fights at my high school, but not sure if there was bullying. Some girls used to be bitchy toward each other. Growing up, I was always a Lil chubbier for my age. But thankfully no one bullied me or made fun of me. The fact that there a children as young as 6 committing suicide because of bullying is absolutely heart breaking. There are kids that have bad home environment, and experiencing hostility at school also, where is your safe zone!!! I had the biggest knot in my throat when Stephanie mentioned Lil Stephanie. You're tiny now, I can't imagine how tiny you were back then going through this. Wes talking about how he's school days, all I pictured was this Lil Lachie doing the same thing. [I hope he doesn't cos we live in a different world now]

Ami

I can not wait for Stephs reaction to this! yours too wesley for your little theories lol its just that I can already imagine Stephs rage and tears. but also stephs crazy when it comes to justice. buckle up guys. it only goes up or down(?) from here. thanks for the reaction!!

Aaron

For a moment there when the bully was being beat up stephs dark side came out just for a bit hahahaha dayumm

Tabii🪷

may⁷

Unlike the ACT or SAT, which are held every few months in the US, Suneung (수능), aka the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), is administered only ONCE a year in Korea. Thus, if some unforeseen circumstances occurred (such as getting food poisoning from the lunch a student brought from home, getting into a car accident on their way to take the exam, feeling unwell, or simply not taking the test well), they will have to study and wait a whole year to even get another chance. This makes the Suneung a big deal in Korea. Just by 1 point, the school you can get into differs. There are, of course, people who retake the college entrance exam after high school graduation (there are also businesses targeting these people--more hagwon (학원) or cram schools). Some retake 2 or 3+ times. I heard my father's friend's daughter entered a place that is similar to a dorm where they eat, sleep, and study there under surveillance for a few months (staff or teachers, I don't know what they are called, there make sure students do not fall asleep during the long studying time and motivate them to study hard). I can't remember the exact number, but I think it also cost a lot to enter this place, so both of my parents and I were shocked. A drama called "SKY Castle" (referencing the three big universities) is also about students wanting to get into SKY. Also, I want to point out that Korean school system, as well as their hours, are very different. I am pulling this info out from online since I never experienced this myself but often heard cases from my friends and media: A typical Korean high school day starts around 8:00 am and ends around 4:30 pm. However, many students participate in the hagwon (cram school) or MANDATORY self-study sessions after school until late in the evening, sometimes even until 10 pm or so. This means high school students spend 12 +hours at school, stuck with the same classmates in the same classroom.

Gatha Naranath

MY GUY SU-HO, hes seriously one of my fave actors. He usually plays similar roles like a slightly naive funny guy thats like young and free spirited. He fits it so perfectly. Cant wait til u guys watch twinkling watermelon cause hes in that one too

Naomi

Aw im so sorry that happened to you steph. I can relate, sending much love!

H

Anything with some comedy or romance please! So many depressing (great none the less) shows

taiyaki hoshi

i really appreciate the discussion at the end. thank you for always sharing your honest take and for being open and vulnerable with us. i’m sorry you had to go through that, stephy :( when i was younger, i didn’t feel comfortable enough to tell my parents i was getting bullied either (in elementary school). i felt embarrassed and scared. but as a parent, i think the only thing you can do is let your children know that they can always come to you for anything and make them feel safe to be vulnerable and to come forward with what they’re going through. and i feel like you guys are already great parents and when the unfortunate day comes, they’ll feel they’re able to share their struggles. you guys already show great character, very obviously have a great moral compass, and are able to empathize with others. coming here daily to watch you guys react to things i love watching (even things that are new to me that i have never heard lol) is very comforting to me and feels like a hangout lol it definitely feels like safe space for ME, so i feel very confident and hope that your children will feel the same towards you guys. sending you nothing but love and positivity! weak hero class wasn’t my k-drama pick, but the show is undeniably good although it definitely shines a light on darker themes and can be a hard watch (in a sense that things can hit soft spots and/or be very graphic and dark)

Selena Nguyen

the translation seems a bit off, can you guys maybe check to see if you're in English or English CC subtitles?

H

I know it’s a good story. But after squid games and other dramas I was hoping for something’s less violent or dramatic.

Chels

I lovingly call this show "Psycho Hero" 😂 yall are gonna be soooo traumatized. Also, this is the show I was referring to in my fetanyl squid games comment as it seems to be coming up a lot, so I wonder if the fetanyl epidemic moved to Korea as well. Most people addicted to opiates seem to seek fetanyl these days, but you cut it with other opiates. Not cocaine unless you are a suicidal maniac 😅 lol and ya I dunno about how they get access to it or how it's muled in Korea, but it was weird as all hell to me and the one who helped me get access to drugs (not my dealer, but she would handle the deals for me) that they were smoking off the patches. Never seen that before 😶 I've seen the more heavy users break down and snort the dirty 30s, melt them to smoke them, liquefy them to inject them, or just take the pill like me. The fet patches are super hard to get, and even if you can get them, they are so weak, the only ones who would use them as patches are ones who are just trying to stave off withdrawals. So I am curious if this is just creative speculation, or if this is how it looks in Korea for the fet trade and if teens are really getting their hands on it, which would be horrible.. as someone who did both hydros and fet, fet is 1000% worse and I never would've got myself into that mess if I'd known what it was. I have heard and seen representation of the school system being so competitive, it encourages students to get into drug abuse and bullying just to stay in the race. Dunno how accurate it is, but it's sad to even think it's enough of a problem for it to be in so many dramas. This is probably very dramatized, but.. ugh this is why I 100% believe empathy is a learned skill. If I ever have kids, empathy is the first thing I'm gonna try to teach them next to how to stand up for themselves against students and adults that would lord over them

Mini Nerd Racoon

Funny story. Netflix proposed to start with class 2 to me too. The thing is, I didn't notice until after I finished the last episode of season 2. I had to watch class 1 as it was a prequel...

Jane Ling

I don't know... I am having a hard time with this. Started watching it yesterday, and stopped after a while. Today again. Still did not finish. I need happy and lighter stuff 😥😔... Since quite a while I don't have much stuff that I looked forward to watch... sometimes it's just a phase but it's going on for quite a while... I want to support and watch with them, but... *sigh... sorry to ramble. Had to get this out of the system. Made me just sad.

That Girl Z

Happy for the people who voted and wanted this show. I'm also in a space of fluff and romance. I'll be giving this reaction a skip...maybe one day I'll back to it but for now it's a bit too much. Hopefully in the next poll a rom com wins.

Jane Ling

Yes. I agree. I also skipped 'All of us are dead,... I quit 'Queen of tears' and skipped some parts of WLGT 🙈... I am a little inbetween with Peaky Blinders ... everything is so dark and heavy.

That Girl Z

Couldn't watch 'All of us are Dead'. I'd watched 'Queen of Tears' by myself because of the hype and honestly felt it wasn't that great, and was overhyped because of the cast and writer, I think I even said that when it won but I thought I could watch with Wes and Steph then everything about that man came out and I couldn't even do that because 🤢...I watched parts of WLGT -mostly the backend-, couldn't do the whole thing. I'm happy they got to see IU actress though, she's amazing. I really wanted What's Wrong with Secretary Kim to win (and it was so close) because not only is it a classic for a reason but it's largely light and fluffy. Even my other pick, Flower of Evil is dark but not heavy if that makes sense. Also, just overall an amazing show...too bad it's not more appreciated, I'm losing hope of it ever winning here which is a shame when it's so brilliant and I really think Steph and Wes and everyone who hasn't seen it would absolutely love it. Maybe rom coms will one day make a come back...Hometown Cha Cha Cha, King the Land and Love Next Door would be so fun I think. Until then I'll re-watch their Crash Landing on You and Business Proposal reactions.

Ethereal

The ending discussion made me think of a Gabor Maté interview (Hasan Minhaj), where he asked the interviewer who shared a bully story, "When you're bullied, who did you talk about it?" https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AlAaAtDm--8 When something is shameful it might not be easy to share with other people. I think what's important is to create an open safe space where you can be vulnerable with someone with (minimal) judgement. Not only applies to parent-child relationships but in general really.

Honii

So excited for this reaction!!! I haven't watched season 2 but I remember season 1 being really good

Gabbi Betancourt

Idk I would like if you go different with polls like.... 'guys we are more into a romcom drama help us with the Best ones! So all the recommendations are romcoms no a little bit of everything or 'Guys we wanna see Park Seo Joon ( Tae friend ) acting wich one is his Best drama?, or dramas related with world wars are so interesting because is a Korean perspective, Police ones, doctors ones, bussiness, sports, history, life after death-mitology Koreans have great ones of those dramas, so the dramas are different and no the same vibe always... and you are involved too. I hope you like the idea guys I love you so much.

Molly

the guy who plays the drug dealer was in the squid game eps of run jin

Nele

oh you just said it all... honestly i'm feeling the same way at the moment... 😅 happy for the people who wanted to watch this with them, but yeah... <3

tata pipi

Female bullying can be harder to detect but deeply damaging, since it involves exclusion, silent treatment, rumor spreading and shaming, I remember how horrible it was and can identify with Steph.

Gia

Ikr... I want them to react to Reply 1988 after this show. Same with anime. I think we’ve had enough depressing shows😂

yeon

I wanted to watch this drama because my husband liked it so so much and the reviews were good. I don't like violent action, but let's see

V

This show is horrible compared to the webtoon. Wes and steph should read it on their own time

Terry

First things first, I really appreciate the discussion at the end. Thanks for being so vulnerable with us <3 Apart from that a little fun fact: Just wanted to say that the actor who plays the main guy Sieun became famous through being an idol and part of a Kpop group called Wanna One. His name is Park Jihoon. I always think it's so interesting when people gain popularity for their acting when were primarily known to be a singer first. He's got quite a bubbly personality as well in comparison to his role here haha

Beth Edwards

Just for insight! Korean highschools are MOSTLY exams to get into a good college, so you can get a good job. That means that EVERY year is always college prep, which in America is typically your last year/two years of highschool. So this is technically their 1st (or freshman) year of high school, meaning that they are around 14-15 here!

Ahn Suho

Why didn’t you watch it in english

Michelle

Lmao Steph’s rxn was so funny to the beating cuz it wasn’t expected😂 . Aww just got to the end. Virtual hug 🫂

neez duts

funnily enough i started on class 2 for some reason and was REALLY confused xD
