Sneaky

Tehehehe

Moroni W

Outside of the obvious shock of Marina’s death, the mother only noticing the plant on Shizuka and saying nothing about her injuries made the scene feel so much worse. Like she is clearly capable of seeing what’s going on with her daughter and notices something as small as a plant but isn’t willing to even ask about it? Genuinely gross parent

JD

In the manga Takopi resets over 100 times to try and avoid what happened to Chappy and that incident happens at the end of day 6! This means Takopi spent about 2 whole years trying to avoid that outcome, which is insane!

Benoit Kim from his "Psychotherapist Reacts" channel said Marina would officially be diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) according to the DSM-5, or as Wes already mentioned by the less technical term, be considered a "sociopath." It's treatable, but in terms of the overall issue with bullying, it requires adults to intervene to help all children involved. The adults are so absent that even the teacher went on with her days without a care while the word "die" was written on one of her student's desk. I had a similar reaction with the ending. Everything came to a halt as I was feeling the gravity of the situation, and was asking "My god, what have you done," which turn to "what's happening.... do you not understand...." when the music was playing which then turn to "oh wait, don't tell me that....." The ending did feel more of a tragedy, and the fault lies more with the environment the children were growing up in rather than the children themselves.

Just for context these kids are 9-10, another amazing reaction i cant wait for next week

It is curious because from the shows Pv and Takopi's Shizuka is clean looking, but every time the Pv changes to a character she becomes very dirty. It makes think that due to her depression Shizuka just doesn't take care of herself at all. Her house is also cheap and cluttered which means that her mom only puts on effort on her appearance because of her job, otherwise she is even more apathetic than Shizuka is.

You touched on it a bit towards the end, but what Marina really needed was to be taken by Child Protective Services (or I guess Japan's Child Guidance Center). It can be so difficult to remember this when we're almost always seeing things from the children's perspective, but we have to keep in mind that these two are both 9 years old. Marina was a child being beaten and abused at home who was clinging to the idea that her life could go back to the way it was before if only Shizuka would go away. It honestly feels indicitave of her age that that logic would even make sense to her, because of course that's not how anything works. Children deserve to be taken care of. Even adding a qualifier like how they need to be made better before it's too late to change feels a bit off, because I worry it would give the impression that they're only worth protecting if they behave or that their care only serves as a utility. No one was taking care of Marina. Now no one is taking care of Shizuka except... Takopi. We'll see how well that goes.

Ambi

Nailed it, as per! :)

It isn't that weird that the other girls also bullied Shizuka. They have been told by Marina how Shizuka "deserved" to be bullied. They might not have the same deeply rooted resentment towards Shizuka, but they knew Marina's resentment and therefore sided with her. I think it's just kids' loyalty to their friends and kids' sense of justice. They are still wrong, but they aren't being cruel for cruelty's sake.

I feel like the problem is that the one who should've died or at least jailed forever is marina's mom. Children are by nature blameless but that doesn't mean we can ignore blonde girl marina's demented actions, fighting back is the correct choice takopi just made a mistake she didnt deserve death but she doesn't deserve "justice" for her death if that makes sense she just deserved punishment and a mistake was done, its tragic. I am watching for the first time with you so I have no idea where this is going, I just hope this doesn't turn shizuka and takopi into serial killers, is the theme how easily innocence can turn to evil and violent when surrounded with it like mold? I hope not I had hoped takopi would just force the friendship rope on them, that would at least solve the bullying problem then he'd save marina from her mom. The camera breaking was so on our face that this cant be undone which sucks.

😶 Well this was.. unexpected. To be fair, I also feel conflicted about this outcome. I think it's easy to say "this person deserves death" but being confronted with the reality is rough. But, watching true crime and seeing how evil child killers are and how empathy isn't inherent, it has to be taught one way or another, so if all they know is violence, they're not likely to learn empathy on their own, I don't think Marina could've changed before killing Shizuka. I agree that it's tragic but not necessarily wrong

This is a very human story.

The anime didn’t show just how hard Takopi tried to save Chappy without resorting to violence. He went back in time over 120 times. He lashed out of desperation. Food for thought - This show presents a real world dilemma through a fantastical premise. Suppose the parents had similarly tragic origins. How far do we pass the blame? At what point do children become partially, or fully liable for their own choices? No easy answers. Just more hard questions.

I am addicted to your reactions. You guys react and discuss like 5 times more than any other Anime Reactors i have seen so far. I watched the whole series beforehand and I am so curious of what your opinions will be going forward in the series. As for what i thought about that episode... (Spoilers for people who haven't watched yet) I was conflicted. On the one hand, something had to be done about Marina-chan. But obviously killing her wasn't the right solution, albeit it was an effective solution. But I am also hard pressed to think of a better solution to the situation. Takopi has this magical item, that lets you try over and over again, but Takopi isn't equipped to really try anything. He has no understanding of the situation. All he sees is Shizuka-chan being sad and nothing he did changed that so he just swung in an act of desperation and the consequence was Death. Maybe he didn't even know, that could be the consequence of this action. I think the hardest thing is, that there really is no one to blame. Shizuka-chan was a victim, Takopi is naive and I would say, we can't even say that Marina-chan brought that upon herself. All three of them, are children. All three of them were shaped by unhealthy environments. Shizuka-chan is being abused mentally, because here mom doesn't show her love and her dad left her. Marina-chan is abused physically and mentally, by parents that are fighting and a mother whos apparently beating her and shaping her into a soldier for her side of the conflict. Takopi was raised on a planet, where only happy things happen and the height of conflict is, that someone hides your Happy-Paper so you approach them to make up with them. I think, there is no morally right conclusion to draw here. Sometimes, things happen and there is nothing that can make that right or wrong and you have to live with that. Wether you think it was wrong to kill Marina-chan or you think it was the right thing to do, you are in the wrong.

The Anime Dude

Am not going to try to justify anything Marina did, can’t really be justified, but we can understand it in some way & hold hope that kids can grow & change for the better… This is a story of kids who had the adults in their lives let them down. 😭 Appreciate all the discussion around it. 🙏🏻

Thinkace

takopi is the best sht ever !! fk yh fk that child kill alllll hahahahahha

ZigZagKangaroo

I love the reactions you guys have. Something I realized just now is that before the hit to Marina's head, Takopi was thinking about chappy. Shizuka needs Chappy and I think Takopi might've been trying to imitate Chappy and how he tried to protect Shizuka by attacking. That in combination with helplessness of not being able to solve the issue by going back in time. This is just my interpretation though.

Kindyh Bordat

The mom doing the most she can ? Did we see the same first episode? Because Shizuka was living into a filthy room full of garbage.

Kindyh Bordat

As for Japan parental right laws... Hell no, mom can basically kidnap kids and move away, the law won't do shit to help you. Even when you found them and want the back. That's extremely crazy. Many fathers offed themselves because of that.

Kindyh Bordat

This episodes is really good to show people psychology on the justice subject. Because me and my friends watched the episode and I stood up screaming (HELL YEAH, TAKOPI YOUR SUCH A GOAT) while clapping my hands. And my friend was happy for a moment before questioning if it really was a good thing. The author did such a great job. I had so many debates online and met people with many good arguments. (I didn't change my point of view but I don't deny theirs since it's a entirely debatable subject.)

Rana Rainer

I'm with them on this one, i've never felt so much mixed and conflicting feelings watching a show before lol.

A Guy

The mother is most certainly not doing the best she can she lets shizuka live in what amounts to squalor and so far has only dismissed her daughter in situations where she should step up as a parent

i know this isn’t related to this anime but another anime i really loved is called Anohana! it’s a short series, it has 11 episodes but i loved it! i would LOVE it if you could react to it!

Lars Scheinert

In that situation in my opinion marina had to go man, she was twisted and there was no way she was gonna stop.

Kasturi

This is the first time of me watching TOS. I vaguely knew the premise that there's an alien who tries to make a girl laugh. That's it. If I had known the girl would be bullied to this degree I wouldn't have started watching it. That being said, I did watch the first episode with you all. I always have visceral reaction to bullying. I literally punched a wall because i couldn't do anything for Shizuka. I've never wished death upon anyone but when i saw Marina took Shizuka's eye out, that was the moment i figured that no matter what, you cannot remove that kind of violence from that child. That's the kind of child people hear about in true crimes stories. I wasn't planning to continue this anime because it was taking toll on my mental health. but someone spoilt the 2nd episode saying that the girl dies. And solely for that reason i decided to continue this anime. I wanted someone to make Marina to hold accountable for what she did. and if death was the solution this anime was giving, i gladly took it. I don't know what's going to happen from now on but at this moment I'm glad to get rid of Marina.

Zak

I mean there literally is a way. Way more fucked up kids have had normal lives after being removed from abusive households and given intensive therapy, there could have been a better ending for her.

Zak

the sad thing is, getting Marina out of that household and into pretty intense therapy would've most likely avoided all of this

Grace Viole

Marina had potential, man😔

I think marina deserved to die. Honestly she was just beating shizuku to death for no reason why would I feel bad, when she didn't feel bad beating another kid to the verge of death. I don't have a problem with shizuku being happy either...my only peeve with shizuku is allowing herself to be a punching bag, that's one thing I can't stand, someone who doesn't stand up for themselves and allows others to beat on them
