I'm glad that Wes timely corrected Steph about Baek Jin being an orphan as it's quite important piece of the puzzle to form our perception of him as a character. His story is a same tragic one as Beom-seok from S1 in the sense that's another young life ruined by the adults; and there are obvious parallels between Shi-eun + Beom-seok and Baku + Baek Jin (both Beom-seok and Baek Jin are orphans, both used by some "father" figure for their own selfish gain, both were captured in shame and guilt, and in both cases their close friend couldn't fully grasp what really turned them into the "villain"). Such great writing. Despite being a sweet person Steph has way more pragmatic look at life than Wes with his optimistic views lol "Let the sleeping dog lie" lol Steph reminds me so much of Brenda Leigh Johnson from the detective series The Closer (Kyra Sedgwick played that awesome character), and I'm saying that as the compliment! Thank you both for thoughtful and engaging reaction!

wes is right. baekjin was an orphan, and the orphanage he was donating to was the one he grew up in. it’s easy to believe he’d come from a wealthy background as he was in a top school (and also valedictorian of that school), and plus he always looked put together and tidied up compared to the eunjang boys. he did have a lot of money as a teenager however it was all from the union. baekjin was a very complex character and y’all are not alone in trying to understand his background and his personality. everyone has kinda interpreted his character differently. some people see him as the villain, while others see him as one of the victims of the ACTUAL villain (the main boss). i personally like to believe that baekjin was one of those characters who did want to be a good guy, but couldn’t. he did what he had to do to stay alive. but there were various scenes where you could see him wanting to do things his way, rather than following orders of the big boss. i think he truly cared for baku and genuinely just wanted his friend by his side. i also think the money he was donating wasn’t just to make himself feel better and less guilty, i feel he did it as a way of showing gratitude and it genuinely came from the good of his heart. next season we will probably get more flashbacks that will answer a lot of our questions. i feel like baekjin will haunt the narrative for baku in the next season, kinda like how suho haunted the narrative for sieun this season. as for seongjae, there is no prediction whether or not he will take the big boss’s offer. that man is truly a wild card. he was never working with the big boss, and his connections were always made for his own benefit. i agree with wes when he says he feels he’s like a troll. seongjae seems to just do whatever he feels like. whatever seems most fun and exciting. he could be the next baekjin or he could be some sort of antihero next season, kinda like the man with the ponytail from class 1. im not sure tho. i could see his character going both ways.

also, although suho is back i do feel like he won’t be partaking in much of the fighting for next season. it’d make the most sense as he still seems to be recovering and quite frankly he honestly might not be the same after his coma. he literally almost lost his life the last time he fought so it’s understandable if they have him take a step back next season, whether it comes from him not wanting to fight, or sieun and the others telling him not to. however i am curious what they are gonna do with his character. idk if the comments have told ya’ll but in the original manhwa/webtoon, the story starts with the beginning of class 2. and the main characters are sieun, baku, gotak, juntae, baekjin, and seongjae. netflix made class 1 as a prequel for sieuns plot line and character arch. so basically all of the class 1 characters are kinda irrelevant to the original plot, including suho. in the webtoon he’s only shown and brought up in flashbacks. which is why im interested in what they’re gonna do with him moving forward. also the original webtoon plot ends with eunjang winning against the union and baekjin dying, as shown on the show. with that being said, there is no telling on how they are going to write season 3 now that the manhwa plot ended.

Just a quick correction - it wasn’t cheongang’s funeral home, he just sent a condolence wreath to baekjin’s funeral and they usually have the name of the sender on them Thanks as always for your amazing company and commentary!!

I recommend Typhoon Family next! :)

I felt that Baekjin wanting Baku in the Union is definitely because he feels trapped. He was too deeply affiliated with the gang to leave in any other way that wouldn’t have had him winding up dead regardless and I think he knew that. Sieun even said as much when he confronted him - ‘you want Baku because you think he’s your only friend’. It’s so incredibly selfish to want to drag your supposed best friend into the same shitty circumstances you think you’re stuck in but there’s something about it that tugs at my heartstrings and makes me very sad for him. It’s a very childish desire to fixate on and risk his work for but he was exactly that - a child in the end. With Beomseok, watching the way he acted following him ‘finding’ power just made you feel uneasy and as if his motivations were always somewhat twisted and just couldn’t manifest since he was always beat down and defined as weak by others but it doesn’t necessarily feel the same way with Baekjin. At least not to me. Even though he most certainly is Baku’s Beomseok, I don’t think Beomseok would’ve evolved to be someone like Baekjin if he had gained more power. I don’t know if it would be worse or not but Baekjin seems like he’s in it for the money solely and has to ‘put up’ with everything else that comes with being a gangster. He’s not a victim since he’s definitely gone out of his way to be cruel and shown he himself has accepted a level of violence and force to get his way but again, he makes my heart sad. The actors look way older but when I think that they’re meant to be 18/19, I could cry all over again seeing his portrait in that funeral scene😭 Also 100% an orphan. In the flashback, young Baekjin looked nervous to bring Baku home because it’s obviously an orphanage but relaxed once Baku said “woah it’s so big and fancy! let’s play basketball”. Going off your discussion, I don’t see Seongje being in cahoots with the boss anytime soon. He’s a) disinterested and b) I don’t think the boss really messes with him after the police questioning issue. Probably next on the chopping block now that he’s rejected the offer lmao. I think it was to show that after all of that, it’s Seongje of all people who is actively concerned about Baekjin and trying to get into contact with him 💀 I think he genuinely thought they were friends, whatever that means to Seongje lol hence why he got so butthurt when Baekjin was so cold to him after he got beat up by Sieun 😭 What a journey, as always it’s been a pleasure to watch with the both of you. There are behind the scenes out there if you’re wanting a little interlude before your next drama endeavour but I’ll be looking forward to next week regardless! Take care :))

Could you watch the behind the scenes of this? ☺️ it’s a short video but it can show you how convincing their acting here is because of how they are in real life. Hehe.

Hi guys! Can I recommend watching “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty” next? IT IS SUCH A CUTE, FUNNY, but a bit sad, KDRAMA! It is amazing!

Movie with me

You guys will enjoy behind the scene of this series. its one of the fun and wholesome especially the final war

Grace Viole

Si eun fighting a one armed guy is hilarious but at the same time just a bitch move🤦‍♂️ I never liked how he couldn’t fight without having a weapon and I guarantee if and of the “villains” fought a one armed si eun in a fair fight and pulled out brass knuckles everyone would complain which is hilarious. I am fine with them winning but it should have been a fair bare handed fight and one on one not baku coming in at the end to “win” which felt like cheating honestly.

max max

oh brother, yeh lets have the weak kid who cant fight, fight the guy who is the most feared man in the region without any weapons ok dude

Cassielly

The guy is operating a whole criminal gang of stealing and beating kids to submission, and you care about a “fair fight” 😐
