Since you mentioned how women’s surname change after marriage, in Korea the wife doesn’t take her husband’s surname, she keeps her family name. And the children take their father’s surname

From what i’ve learned in korean culture when it comes to married names, the wife usually keeps what we call her maiden name. She doesn’t take on her husband’s last name when she gets married like what usually happens in the US. I could be wrong, but i think it has something to do with keeping the clan’s separate by surname to keep the family tree distinct to each relative in that clan’s family tree of the paternal side of the family. But it seems like the tradition like what we have in the US to give all the children their father’s last name happens though. So when women get married in South Korea, they keep their last name they were given at birth to keep her father’s surname going. Example would be: Husband surname Kim Wife surname Kang Son surname Kim Daughter surname Kim Daughter get’s married to a man with the surname Moon. Then it becomes: Husband surname Moon Wife surname Kim Son surname Moon Daughter surname Moon The wife’s surname most generally doesn’t change to her husband’s surname. She keeps her surname even if she’s married. You’ll notice this as you continue to watch kdramas. This i hope will help the confusion when you hear a couple being married in a kdrama but the husband and wife still going by two different surnames.

The director did such a good job with how the time travel is set up in the current storyline. I watched this drama blind (no pun intended), so imagine my surprise when I realized there was time travel ! I was mind blown and came up with my own theories as well LOL

Guys, Oppa is the term girls use for older brother. Appa is how children call their dad. For boys, if they want to address an older brother, they use hyung. Remember that using this honorifics is really important in Korean (and confucianism) culture, it will help you understand some jokes in the next episode

i hope you'll react to alchemy of souls next. until this series ends i'll be skipping this reaction :) I never heard of this drama just knew it was popular in other countries. thought i'd give it a chance with you guys but i can sort of see how this drama would not be popular with koreans, just not so good writing and dialogue from the korean language and culture perspective. the dialogue between the side and minor characters really make the shows for me and the side characters just seems very childlike and not fully developed in korean. i guess it would be hard to notice when translated to english. alchemy of souls was interesting in a sense where some of the dialogue(about 4 seasons etc) and the setting in itself was sure to make it not popular in korea but then ended up becoming pretty popular with the main actress and actor's popularity exploding afterwards. the writing and characters are top tier. fun fact, i still remember the disgust in my guy friend's eyes when i forced him to watch the first ep with me. he ended up getting hooked and forgave me eventually XD. fyi the dude HATES ROMANCE and anything fantasy, romance-like sooo you can guess how good the show gets :)) ANYWAYS sorry for the long comment, still love you guyss and will be enjoying the one piece reactions in the meantime <3

Alchemy of souls is really good series but twinkling watremelon is really underrated. I skipped after watched 3 episode then came back later on random day, its really a masterpiece. First 3 episode is kinda slow, confusing and bit draggy but it really get back on track after Lee Chan. It wasnt popular because of various reason but ppl started watching again after weak hero. This series is full of emotions and love. I'd really appreciate if you could give it a try again. Be little patient for first few episodes, i promise it gets better and better.

Hey guys! Once you’re done with this Kdrama, I would HIGHLY recommend watching “True Beauty” It is an AMAZING Kdrama, with a lot of a sad back story with the two male lead characters. Also, there is a bit of a love triangle in the drama as well. Also, I would sort of recommend skipping ep 15 if you don’t want to see anything, but if you’d want to, just be ready for the worst part in that episode because it made me not want to rewatch it ever again, but that is totally up to you guys. It is definitely one of my absolute FAVORITE Kdramas ever.

While I'd be happy if they did (True Beauty was one I nominated last poll) recommending it to Wes and Steph now won't do any good. They run what they watch based primarily off of polls. When they finish this kdrama, they will announce when it's time to make nominations, so that would be the best time 😊 (unless you're recommending it to the comments more so than W&S. Then just ignore me) But ya, I agree. The story of true beauty is really good and the live action did a pretty decent job translating some of the humor that was more visual from the webtoon. Currently on ep 3 myself, but I read the entire webtoon

Even if you loose your hearing you can still speak yes, but you can't hear yourself anymore so it must feel weird, and if they learn sign language they probably stop speaking at all at some point...and also they probably can't remember their own voice too...so I think it's more about not being used to/comfortable anymore with speaking out loud I'm watching the show with you so I don't know the explanation they give in the show but I'm quite curious I didn't know sign language and deaf characters would be part of the story and since I have a brother working in that community in my country for around 15 years now I know some stuff and am interested in the topic, especially since I heard a bit about the differences btw Korea and my country
