W One Piece

AL

I say this as a huge fan of the show, I dont understand how people can steer you guy so wrongly. I understand not having the time to not watch the actual show and One Pace does it great justice, but to skip G8 is just absurd (and that is not ur fault Wes and Steph). One Piece has never been about rushing through, its a journey to be enjoyed slowly, its a marathon not a sprint as they say; and in it G8 is an amazing arc that be it filler, its considered widely as the best filler and is an amazing character development and setting up future arcs arc. Idk for the love of whats sacred how people can think it should be skipped or not enjoy it. But it is what it is. If it was up to me, as someone who has watchrd the show multiple times (so maybe a bit biased), but I would jump between One Piece and Pace for specific arcs, and everyone can discern which are which. It's such a shame that you are doing it this way, for popular opinion apeasing but miss out on the experience of enoying certain future arcs fully. Then again this is just an opinion as well, I hope you are enjoying the show and yourselves watching it. <33

Courage

In all fairness majority don't feel this way, mainly because whether G8 is good or not at the end of the day it didn't happen and wasn't intended or created by the author

humphrey-t-humphrington

I think in general a lot of people don't like filler though, for me I enjoy g8 but I feel like it's not as good as the canon stuff

Keshav Krishnakumar

G-8 is good but you’re wrong about the character development. filler is still filler at the end of the day. there’s a bit of foreshadowing but from the perspective of the events of the rest of the series, G-8 basically never happened, as with all other filler

Billbob

Nope, you aren't being stupid Wes, fairy/endless vearth is indeed the moon and was Enel's goal all along. There are manga covers that shows Enel landing there and setting up camp and whatnot but it didnt get animated. It might be covered in a flashback when it becomes relevant again in like 1000 episodes.. idk if he has come back in the manga yet but I think its supposed to be important like everything else Oda sets up way too far in advance

Tsatsa

The long ring Long Island is based off of the country of Mongolia!! I recognized it because I’m Mongolian! Oda did a great job of showing our culture, like the house (aka the ger), the bond between Mongolians and their horses, and even treating guests with milk of farm animals!! The interior of the house was also very accurate to how it is in real life, it felt like i was visiting a relative along with the straw hats, which was very cool. And most importantly, imo, Mongolians have had nomadic lifestyle for many generations, and it’s so cool to see how that lifestyle is transferred to be on a small island. Oda was able to use that to deepen the plot too, which was really creative!

Ancient

as much as I love G8 i think it makes no sense to stall 3 more weeks on filler specially when the next arcs are considered to be the high points of the series.

Billbob

Seems you commented before watching, because they said they plan on watching G-8 offscreen since the majority didnt want to have to wait more weeks to get to W7 which IMO is the best middle ground for everyone.

Gelondil

To call the decision to skip G8 "wrong" or "absurd" is, well, wrong and absurd. You are entitled to your opinion, but you need to accept that that other people's opinions are valid too. And the majority of people did not think watching G8 was a necessary part of the One Piece experience. Also, G8 has ZERO character development. It just has the illusion of character development, because the episodes were crafted using the ingredients Oda had already prepared, but then released before Oda served his meal. As Keshav said, nothing in this arc matters to the rest of the story.

The Great Dan

Agreed, massive audience L there. At least their still watching it, though there is a spoiler on there about a certain ship that gets mentioned.

Hayate

I'm glad you liked Skypiea too. It's likely in my top 10 arc. For real, we discovered so many stuff in this arc. The dials, mantra powers, Gol D Roger was there, Poseidon, the forgotten century, the Rio Poneglyph. This is also the first time we encountered the devil fruit types named (Luffy = Paramecia, Enel = Logia, Chopper = Zoan). Skypiea introduced so many concepts for the world building. Also, on the topic of Robin feeling like a temporary part of the crew, I also felt that during this arc because she never called the other members by their name. It's always "swordman-san", "navigator-san"...etc

RCG

I knew he was aiming for the moon but I'm not really familiar with the manga. Is it just fun cover art or is there actually something that could be animated? Even ignoring the fact that his ship most likely couldn't make it to the moon, how is he surviving in space or on the moon? lol

The Anime Dude

Am so proud of Luffy and crew for acting Pirate-Like - even if they accidentally missed out on a bigger haul by doing so, they took the gold & ran. 😭 Brings me joy to see how funny Robin found it as she joined in & ran too, I love her. 😂 7 kilometers is = 4.35 miles up basically. Can’t believe Stephie was so disrespectful to future Pirate king Foxy though, clearly the most intimidating villain thus far.

Jay

If anything, because it's filler, this is considered spoiling and not foreshadowing...

Kret

To be fair the reason he set things up so early on is because he only planned on makeing one piece for a few years then he found he enjoyed writing it so much and changed plans I am sure how popular it was helped a lot as well

RCG

I would have had no problem if they had watched G-8 but the arc isn't even close to being as important as you're trying to make it out to be. It's just a fun side story, that's it. There is so much more that's way, way better later in the show and people just don't want to "waste" a month on a filler side story that's mostly appealing to hardcore fans like you. Them watching it on their own is a good solution.

Billbob

Its just fun cover art that is basically the same as a full page panel in a manga that shows whats going on, so putting together the 30+ manga covers pieces together a full mini story. Like the whole Buggy Adventure mini arc we got animated was something that was also done only via manga covers so it was canon but not really some individual manga chapter like everything else. Idk if its spoilers since its covered by the manga covers across an unrelated arc but still hasnt been animated but yeah, the moon is completely inhabitable and the cover story shows Enel investigating the ruins and creations that are there and learning how the shandians/birkans/skypeians all originate from people who once lived on the moon. So we briefly get to see Enel discover that and set up a moon base of sorts over 40ish pages of cover art during a certain Impel arc.

Mr. Bibinho

Your instincts were right! The fall in the original anime doesn't go nearly as smoothly. If I remember correctly, the octopus starts deflating much sooner, so the Straw Hats have to get creative to avoid a deadly impact. Just the usual Straw Hats routine ✨

Kof_Art

god knight? What a weird mixup of words.

Mr. Bibinho

Oh yeah, we finally reached full screen!

mogeki

funnily enough, tsunami (津波) is a japanese word. it is made up of two kanji: tsu (津) meaning harbor and nami (波) meaning wave. nami's name is not written in kanji, but it is very clear that her name is supposed to mean wave.

Jay

Re-watching Skypiea with u guys i have to say.,it's crazy how underated this arc is. It has such stellar writting, character interactions and a true feeling of adventure from start to finish. It has so much heart, even compared to some of the later more popular arcs.

Jay

Donflamigo's attitude is revealed really well in that line, "Pit belief against belief to control others, thats what i told you Bellamy". In other words, fighting for your beliefs is wrong, you should use the beliefs that other people hold to manipulate them for your benefit. That's why Bellamy was disqualifed instantly the moment he fought Luffy on battle of beliefs.

Gelondil

Some of your burning questions about Enel and the Sky Island people are explained in the manga, but not the anime: The manga has serialized single-page "Cover Stories" told as cover art across each of the chapters. Some of these canon stories made it into the anime (eg: "Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles" and "The Diary of Koby-Meppo"). *Manga-Only Spoilers* One story that never made it to the anime is "Enel's Great Space Operations", wherein Enel travels to the moon, fights space, pirates and discovers a robot army. It's also revealed that the Sky Islanders actually came from the moon!

Oden

I am pretty sure that when comments told you that they were excited for you to react to the next arc they meant water 7 not long ring long land however it is a quite funny and interesting small arc

NoSoupRice

12:25 this is the first time i've seen that gag happen to the audience as well 😂

Billbob

Yeah, especially for anime-onlies it often gets scored quite low but that's not too surprising when the skypeia section was stretched to over 40 episodes which is almost double this One Pace cut. Between that rough pacing and being sandwiched between two beloved sagas it definitely gets underrated in hindsight.

Harrison Hird

yes enel is going to the moon. there is a cover story in the manga that shows what he finds. unfortunately it was never animated. but based on what i know as someone who is caught up with the series we will probably come back to it in the main story eventually.

Levy

Nami's name can be translated to "Wave"

Philsi

I cracked up when Steph said Donquixote Doflamingo reminds her of a flamingo. No way! lol

AirCord

This is an EXTREMELY lame thing to point out, but Sunlight does not behave like that, or at least our Sun in real life doesn't. Because of the distance from Earth and the size of the Sun, light from it is effectively parallel. Meaning shadows cast by an object, even miles in the sky, will be the same size as the object itself. So maybe Oda didn't know/think of that or maybe the Sun in OP is different from our own. No clue, but I always think of this during Skypiea lol

Drakojin

Surprised no one mentioned it yet. But there was no net involved when shooting Shelly in the Manga.

Htatki

Saying skipping a filler arc is "wrong" is peak delusional. So manga readers are all wrong?

Tom

Mushoku tensei s3 tomorrow

Akurogi Musai

I’m excited to let you know that Mushoku Tensei Season 3 is finally airing! I’m not just expecting your reaction — I’m craving it. Thank you!

sharmarke ahmed

G8 wasn’t made by author lol the manga is the true one piece experience

Klinch

Rule of Cool.

Gelondil

Based on what I know as someone who is caught up with the series, I don't see the evidence of him coming back to the main story. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I categorize this one as a "probably not". The last time we heard from Enel was almost 20 years ago.

Harrison Hird

Im more so talking about what he found on the moon being relevant (harley) than England specifically making a return

AirCord

true haha

Edmond

The first 2 episodes of Mushoku Tensei season 3 are out now.

Danny

Unfortunately you have to read the Enel manga cover story to see where he went and what he does. I highly recommend a mod or somebody find it for you (to avoid spoilers) because you get great lore and you will form theories for sure.

Gavern

Oda left a couple of little hints about the One Piece in Skypiea in the form of Japanese wordplay. He very specifically gave two dates which can be read as sentences in Japanese outside of being just dates. The first one from when Noland's flashback started means something like "The One is Here" and the one from five years later when the chunk of Jaya is launched into the sky can be read as something like "The One Piece roars with the sound of a bell". I don't know how accurate the translations are, but supposedly these details are discussed by the Japanese fans quite a bit.

Michael H

G-8 is waaay overrated, in my opinion. It’s pretty good, for sure, but still very obviously filler. I’ve never really understood why some people insist on it. There is soooo much One Piece—why add on a decent filler arc that would be a mediocre at best arc overall? Now, if it was Fan Letter quality, then that would be an entirely different story.

Michael H

So close to weeks of peak One Piece! Very excited for you guys.

Nostalgino MO

well it is a job for them as well and they dont have all the time in the world while also having to do what fits most people's interest , G8 is 11 episodes

Nostalgino MO

dont worry wes you will have to contend with every trope or creature from fiction in one piece , as for enel he has a short story made from covers its very short , where enel goes to the moon and they explain the wings , so in the end skypiea is the only arc where literally everyone gets a happy ending even the big bad villian , how wonderful, anyways see you guys after you finish LRLI i hate that arc it annoys me so im skipping, you hope you enjoy it tho.

Derpin

I knew Captain Foxy looked familiar. He is inspired by Count Chocula.

Adrian

I mean I'm a little sad I won't be able to see your reactions to it but I'm still happy you're gonna watch G8. I hope you'll give us your opinion on the arc when you're done.

Nostalgino MO

Well its a spoiler big important lore gets dropped in those covers that is currently important to the plot majorly important, he does make it to the moon and gets a happy ending too

Billbob

Wow so he finally came back in the anime then? Because for the last 15 years that has been stuck in the realm of "canon events that never got animated" which hardly counts as a spoiler when Oda himself was the one spoiling future content far earlier than it ever got properly addressed
