Rin is best girl

Flur

I was waiting for this 😭

Flur

SAAAAAAABERRRR claps

Oscar Medina

So the way it Fate Zero works. It is canon to this adaptation. The novel is not fully a prequel to the og game because Nasu wanted the author to have creative liberty. I think not that many people died because the New Town is more of a commercial area. While it is featured in the all works it is more prominent in Fate Zero. The old town is the more flat area and has more houses.

Comte

She is 35 years old.

Comte

Yeah zero is cannon to anime but not the lightnovel.

Galleon

Shirou and his Premature Commandulation

Fabien

15:53 funny because you should have the opposite reaction actually ahah: 10 years passed, Illya didn't grow that much don't you think ? Compare with Emiya, Tohsaka and Sakura.

Shiroufan11

Fate Stay Night the Visual Novel is a story with 3 routes. You can look at them as prospective futures to the events of Fate Zero. UBW is the second of the 3 routes. The reason for Shirou's Command Seal mishap is that it's the split point between the first route (2006 anime) and UBW. If he didn't use it there Archer would have been severely injured. While watching the next 6 or so episodes consider what it would look like if Archer was out of commission.

eXxCeZz

Next week gonna be ultra peak episodes :D Anyway Kiritsugu is dead, as per confirmation as the last episode of fate zero. The places where servants go will be explained in this series later on.

eXxCeZz

Nah, Sakura

AJisreal

I like Sakura a lot but Rin wins just by a tiny bit

Flur

Yeah, no wonder Artoria was stated that, by possessing Avalon, she stopped aging physically, but at some point she lost it, at least from what I remember

Zen

Thank you for the episode and for using other players besides CR's, great reaction as always! Oh yeah, just a slight correction; over 500 people died in the fire, not 16 people. It also destroyed 134 buildings. And in the visual novel, Shirou was fatally wounded with severe burn wounds when Kiritsugu found him, as in he was breaths away from his soul leaving his body.

Fabien

52:39 I don't think you'll have an answer for that in the anime. But just so you know the basics: Arthuria is an exception, she's the same person and she's trapped in time yes (it's explored in the first route of Fate/stay night: named "fate", and which has no "good" anime adaptation). That's why she can't dematerialize like the other servants (it's been mentioned a few times), she has a body. Other servants are different, they are incarnations, theorically if they are summoned twice they should forget all about it.

Kindyh Bordat

The famous FATE gaz leaks, what a classic XD.

rryutie

I am FIENDING for more. You guys are awesome as always. Feeling super blessed that this episode+reaction is a whole hour.

Vicente Gómez

I've been refreshing the patreon page for days waiting for the next Fate reaction. Can't you guys do episodes daily? I'm begging you! (I'm kidding, I know it's weekly episodes)

rryutie

That's really cool info to know

Fabien

I checked because you made me doubt, but more than 500 people died in the great fire of Fuyuki city. Including Shirou's family.

Hayate

Explanation for the sick animation of Lancer's noble phantasm: Gae Bolg is a piercing attack that reverse causality, meaning the moment he finished the incantation, the lance has already pierced Saber's heart , like it was written in her fate (roll credits!). I don't think there's ever a canon explanation for how she dodged it, but fans just say it's because she has a high Luck stat (B) and Lancer's luck is really bad (E)

mimiyowa

This !!! I know we've repeated the 3 routes explanation multiple times but I think it'd be cool for Wes and Steph to imagine if they had a choice there and to understand how the story branches out from there :) It's like a "choose your own adventure" story after all !

mimiyowa

not the Visual Novel*

mimiyowa

I think she's older than Shirou here, she's 18 I believe

mimiyowa

Everything is a gas leak.. smh.. you'd almost think whatever the Japanese version of the CIA is orchestrating the gas leakages to hide the truth.. sus

mimiyowa

Do all lancers just have abysmal luck in Fate ? lol

The Anime Dude

Yep, she was 8 in Fate/Zero, then 10 years passed, so 18. (1 year older than Shiro) She do be a pretty small girl though, likely due to being half human half homunculus. Remember Kiritsugu saying the rifle he had weighed more than her when she was already 8? She’s bigger here than she was 10 years ago though.

cgaming mouakoumbah

Yeah by now kiritsugu is dead, implied that he died in the final scene of fate zero

RCG

Every show only gets posted once a week. If you're looking specifically for Fate, check on Thursdays.

RCG

So, is it just a coincidence that Arturia got summoned as the Saber Servant again? Also, old Lancer would never. I don't really like the new one so far but maybe it's because of his Master, who we haven't met yet.

Ethereal

Fate/Stay Night is the start point of the Fate franchise so you do start off with a protagonist who doesn't have as much knowledge of the Holy Grail War in order to introduce the Holy Grail War to the audience. As for Fujimura-sensei/Fuji-nee, the place was bought by Kiritsugu from Fujimura's grandfather. During Fate/Zero she was a high school student. So through that connection she spent a lot of time with Shirou, babysat him, grew up with him. Kind of like that.

Fabien

It is the canon explanation. Luck is an important stat just like any other one (you can find the stat sheets anywhere on the internet, but remember Saber is nerfed because of Shirou), well it's also due to Saber's extreme abilities. It's what is explained in the VN. This nb is tricky, because it seems less impressive than lancer's other noble phantasm (when he throws it, a physical attack), but due to the nature of the attack you have very little way of defending against it.

Fabien

INeedSleep -> Actually, it's not exactly that: the 3 routes must be done narratively in order (you have no choice, UBW is locked before finishing fate, HF is locked before finishing UBW), it's good and bad at the same time: It enables a very subtle narration, which gives hints about the characters that will only be answered in later routes. It's very elaborate, and it's the forte of the VN for me, that very detailed narration about every mysterious element. And indeed, seeing "UBW" after reading "fate", is really a different experience. In return, you kind of lose that "choose your adventure" aspect. Even if there are choices with consequences (the game overs and also UBW and HF have 2 endings each depending on several choices).

Rostislav

26:30 It just occurred to me... Kiritsuga adopted the healthiest child from that tragedy—one who wouldn't have gone to waste anyway—while leaving behind the sick and disabled children whom no one would want to adopt💀

Temojikato

Didn't even recognize Kiri's house at first tch tch :p Also I love Wesley's confused face when they speak of murders and gas leaks.. Did you forget what all happened in zero, hahaha. Also , I love confusion already hitting over details that UBW skips because the original S/N exists. Skipping it already hurting. SO many wrong assumptions LOL Imagine fighting a spear with a sword btw, very tough Also, he doesn't even know what command spells are, why y'all mad at him X) Why y'all so confused over people fighting every time :p That's the whole damn thing haha

bokchoy

Some clarification on Gae Bolg since it's fairly confusing in the anime. The spear's noble phantasm reverses cause and effect to guarantee a stab to the heart. For a normal spear, you thrust the spear at the enemy (the cause) and you may create a desired effect (i.e. piercing their heart). The initial action (the cause, thrusting) is set, but the effect is variable. You might miss, the enemy might deflect the thrust, the enemy armor might block you, etc. Gae Bolg reverses this by ensuring the effect is set, but the cause is variable. When you thrust Gae Bolg, the hit to the heart is guaranteed; the spear will change fate/history to create a reason why the stab lands. You missed->spear changes fate so that you actually hit; enemy deflected->spear changes fate so the deflect was too slow; armor blocked->spear changes fate so the spear pierced the armor. It's supposed to be a 100% guaranteed kill shot. The only way you live is if your luck is strong enough to change fate itself, which Saber has.

Matthew Wise

My recollection is that it was more to do with her agility stat as it gives her borderline precognition.

Matthew Wise

Couple quick notes, the heir to the temple is issei, the student council president, you saw the temple briefly in fate zero, when saber meets up with kiritsugu to report on her search for irisviel before the final battle. The other note on the teacher, I don't believe much of her backstory is explained in the anime. But the super brief version is she looked up to kiritsugu when she was younger and took responsibility for looking out for shirou and her family is mafia.

정빈 이

52:38 To answers your question simply, there is a spirit realm where heroic spirits come from. However! Our "Saber" is in her own hellish place. In her point of view, she is stuck in there waiting for a chance to win the holy grail. Servents normally don't retain the memories of the previous summon. Why she is stuck in there and what happened to her, why she retains the memories are explained in another story(Fate route).

Raymond Throne

Conventionally Heroic Spirits are summoned from the Throne, which is like a magical database that holds the information of every legendary person who has or will exist. The summoned servants are like copies of that information summoned into particular shapes (ie, the "classes"); the Servant that appears is a combination of how that information fits into that shape. The Servants can have the information of how their Heroic Spirit acted when previously summoned in other incarnations, but that doesn't necessarily affect how they act as they don't usually see that other copy as 'them' in the same way that their current incarnation is 'them'. Usually, the Servant is most accurately reflecting the Hero from a particular time in their life, which is why you could (for example) summon a Hero who looks like he's in his 20s, even if he died in his 60s; that Servant would have all the information about his life, but his body and personality would most closely resemble how he was in his 20s, and his abilities would be limited to what most closely aligns with his Class. As an example, Artoria had magical weapons and artifacts other than Excalibur when she was King Arthur, but since she was summoned as Saber she is only granted Excalibur as her Noble Phantasm.

Cal Ng

For something more lighthearted in the fate universe, I hope you guys will give "Today's Menu for the Emiya Family" a try after UBW.

Vequoin

it is because she chooses to not accept her fate and the fate of ther kingdom. She willingly decided to stay there to change her past and that of Britain, that's why she never went to Avalon

Vequoin

that's asking too much . They have a life and two small children. It is very difficult to raise small children. I think 2 episodes per week is good enough

Vequoin

Wes has a good point about the servant's not being moved on case but it is not the case for every servant. You are on the right path about Saber though. Saber's case is like that. It is explained more in tha Fate route but this is the 2nd route.

Vicente Gómez

I know, I was just joking. It is my way to say that I really like their Fate reactions

Gavern

The different vibe comes from the author who wrote Fate/Zero. The rest of the Fate series is more, I don't want to say light-hearted, but at least has a lot more moments of levity throughout. *Edit: Also, just helping to temper expectations going in, but don't expect everyone connected to Fate/Zero to have relevance in this series. There were three routes in the original, and a lot of the characters don't have much focus outside of specific routes, and sadly you're skipping the only one that has any focus on Saber. **Edit: Also also, Saber is somewhat kind of a different character here. When Gen Urobuchi wrote Fate/Zero, he tweaked Saber's personality to fit the kind of story he wanted to tell. Also if you didn't know, the original writer for Fate's name is Kinoko Nasu.

Gavern

As an analogy, when the historical figures initially die, they are saved to the 'hard drive' of the universe. When they are summoned, they are 'booted up' from that save. They don't exist outside of that, and they don't retain memories if they happen to be summoned again as the are more or less just loaded up from that initial copy.

CD Elio

Haha it's so funny when Saber ask his name and be revealed as Emiya Shirou, she then decides u know what "Shirou", I will start calling you "Shirou" rather than Emiya lol. I'm laughing watching Steph having anger to Lancers to Artoria meanwhile Wes fuming 2 masters having to waste their command seals haha.

Gatha Naranath

Waiting for BTS, Madonna, Shakira and Justin Bieber Half time show reaction. Maybe for a bonus yall can react to Speed meeting bts. It’s so funny

Runhua Tang

Saber really just can't stop letting Lancers drop their Noble Phantasm for free lol.

정빈 이

Let’s not go to more detail which could feel spoiler territory.

eXxCeZz

You have seen nothing yet lmfao. Lancer class is truly cursed

Hassan Jameel

The fights only get better in terms of animation and sound design every time. So excited to see ur theories and reactions to the next couple of episodes

Koko

2 command spells left for these 2 high schooler in 2 episodes :D

Koko

It's like Lancers are scared of Saber xD

Random

Didn't it say Shirou was the sole survivor? Kiritsuga looked and looked, but only found 1 survivor?

Felipe Ramon Gama

Fate Zero barely mentioned it, but Matou Kareya had a younger brother who was even less talented as a mage. He was the guy Kiritsugu tortured in one of the last episodes and you were confused who he was. His name was Byakuya I believe. I don’t remember what happened to him since then since he doesn’t really show up in Stay Night. But Shinji is his son. Since him and Sakura are just one year apart they were raised as siblings. Keep in mind though that we only know that because we are coming from Fate Zero. People who watched or played Fate Stay Night first had no idea they weren’t real siblings and that Sakura was originally a Tohsaka

Kalar King

Nah using that Command Spell to stop Saber was legit, like she said, she was close to defeating Archer there. In the visual novel, you must use it, otherwise she will almost kill Archer on the spot and incapacitate him for a long time, thereby changing the events of the story itself. This is not a spoiler, as neither the anime nor the films provide this information to viewers. Only by playing the visual novel will you know about it. Or watching DEEN 2006 adaptation, which nobody does.

Marcos cruz

Where heroes come from will be explained shortly, though Artoria situation is unique but is not explained in this adaptations, but she's pretty much in limbo between life and death, because she made a pact with the world, so until the pact is completed she won't die, that's why she's able to keep all her memories everytime she is summoned

BalrogQuote

Yeah, the healthiest child, leaving all those dead who nobody would want to adopt.

Nikolai Ilushko

Nah, cu chulainn is great. Just circumstances are bad. When I think of lancer he's probably the most iconic in franchise.

Nikolai Ilushko

When you finish this you should react to fate carnival phantasm 🤣

Nyctophobiasm

It's not a coincidence. Artoria's relic was still in the storehouse, so she was summoned usimg the relic.

Vedhon

out of the heroines rin is the worst ngl, not to say she is bad just the weakest out of the three characters

Ima

The answer to that is in the first route, the Saber one

Ima

Reminder that Rin's pendant was picked up by Shirou, and then Archer gave another one to Rin

Mike Q

There's a surprising amount of foreshadowing in this episode!! Also, Shirou isn't probably most people's top protagonists in anime / fiction in general, but I certainly like his character.
