I AM SO READY FOR THIS!

Kof_Art

My food is coming in like 15 minutes, oh boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Tsatsa

You guys are gonna cry so hard during the next 4 episodes lol. Gotta prepare tissues!!

EddyTheMoza

44:12 I almost spit out my drink when Steph said she thought Spandam was gonna jump out the window XD 48:35 Wes, funny you mention hating crappy video game AI because in the game One Piece: World Seeker it's an intentional feature where whenever you play as Zoro the mini-map and world map become completely pixelated because his sense of direction is that bad! 53:00 The first introduction of Second Gear, it's just so cool and the pose has become so iconic. Didn't know we were getting into the Robin backstory already, time for more Pain Piece ;-;

Honeybadger

The world government logo reminds me of a spinning bird toy for parrots

Dreamknight942

Please do the next few episodes absolute peak !

Y M K

if you have time, can you check out episode 274 from 20:48 till 22:05 ?

RCG

Nothing against Sogeking but you better not underestimate little Chopper :)

PARZVAL

Dammm Soge king was awesome, I think him and usopp would really get along so well

DFrench125

Finally Robin backstory time... and even more peak next week

The Anime Dude

W One Piece At least the crew is all together for once! Robin is my favorite character - but am not sure I’m ready to re-experience this backstory… seeing a library & all the people who love it go like this just breaks my heart. 😭

Kof_Art

Imagine if we got TWO whole posts on one piece per week.

RCG

Since anime has become more and more popular over the years and the people who grew up with it are now adults, it’s quite common nowadays for athletes to show off some of the more popular poses from the shows they like at major events. The Gear Second pose, where Luffy puts his fist on the ground, is probably one of the most iconic ones. There was a Greek athlete, Tentoglou, at the 2020 Olympics who did that pose before his long jump attempt. He even won gold in the end and confirmed in an interview afterward that he’s a big fan. In 2023, he did another Luffy pose at a different event (one that we’ll only see much later in the series) and won gold again.

Kof_Art

"I wanna know what happened in void century".... "I wanna know what the D is".... Yeah me too.

Michael H

I always think of this arc as the Chimera Ant arc of One Piece: insane peaks but some pretty tedious valleys too. Even One Pace can’t save some of these episodes from dragging. But, man, those peaks are seriously peak.

Billbob

Yep, absolutely iconic episode and always love whenever they show how luffy knows when he has to step up and be a captain strong enough to protect everyone. Is easy to forget sometimes with how often he plays the comedic role, but both one piece and gintama nail this energy with their MCs so they'll always be goats to me. They also explain how it works later on so dw too much about the specifics, Oda's got it covered soon enough Also lmao Wes, I havent heard "sky's out, thighs out" before. My dad always went with the upper body version of "suns out, guns out". Also x2, I like how one piece introduces basically Chekhov's nuke in the form of a small golden snail here with what might as well be a "do not press" button on it.

Adams

Gear 2nd is still my favorite Luffy technique, It's so satisfying to see.

Gelondil

It kinda looks like Capsela, the 80's toy that matches Steph's description. But really, the WG flag just looks like jacks to me.

Michael H

Devil Fruits, as far as we know, can pop up anywhere. You don’t necessarily need to be a pirate or marine to get one. They just travel a lot more than the random citizen so have more chances to come across them.

Adrian

I always skip this backstory when rewatching because it's so painful. Also it's funny how we're starting to focus on mysteries that we don't have the full answers to even now.

Derpin

Nah. Don't disrespect Chopper. He is not as weak as Usopp and I do like Usopp but remember, Chopper did beat a priest on his own during Skypia.

Brnden

Nothing gets me more emotional than robins back story and the story of Ohara. I still remember watching it for the first time 10 years ago, I'm so excited for next weeks episodes!

Brnden

This material was in the one pace cut already. Just a bit of walking and panning shots were cut out

Aki

Luffy x Blueno will always be a generational beatdown

RCG

I looked it up but I can’t see why they should check it out. It’s literally the same thing, minus a few seconds of walking. Am I missing something?

Courage

Hey guys, since the ages came up again this episode, I wanted to add a little context to something from the previous reaction because I think the incorrect subtitles accidentally gave you the wrong impression about how Robin views the crew. When Robin was subtitled as saying “those kids,” she actually says 男たち (otoko-tachi) in Japanese, basically “those men/the guys.” So the ages mentioned in the comments are correct — Luffy is 17, Nami 18, Zoro and Sanji 19, etc. — but Robin saying “you're a bunch of kids, don't throw your lives away” isn't really what she's expressing there. That interpretation comes from the Incorrect english subtitle rather than the original line. Robin generally treats them as her fellow crewmates and equals, and importantly, Luffy as her captain. You've already seen that her individual relationships are different too: she's genuinely soft and almost maternal with Chopper, Nami is more of a sister/friend relationship, and there's a quieter mutual respect with someone like Zoro. Something else worth noticing at this point is that Robin generally doesn't even address the crew by their names, instead using descriptors or roles for them. And while they're definitely young, One Piece has an old-world/Age of Sail-inspired social setting rather than our modern one. Luffy left home independently at 17, formed his own crew, captains his own ship and is treated by the world as responsible for his own decisions. So I think their actual roles and relationships are more useful for understanding how they see each other than their age gaps alone.

Y M K

Not really, just searching for "like"minded people. For me "epicness" dropped for 80% just for removing "walking".😂 Seems for you not. That was valueable responce 👍. Thanks a lot

Aleister Crowley

An example is Chopper eating one in the wild when he was just a young racoon dog.

Gavern

The 2nd gear pose is iconic in the anime community. There have even been some athletes taking that pose before their events in the Olympics.

Gelondil

That's interesting. To me I feel like that's a better description of some of the later arcs. Enie's Lobby is pretty busy compared to others that feel more like epic sagas. Even setting aside the flashbacks and the 'stretched for time' stuff

naruheso

Robin's actually saying あの子たち (for which "those kids" is a reasonable translation), but her enunciation isn't super clear in that line so I can see how it could easily be misheard as 男たち!

Michael H

I didn’t even think of Chopper 😂. That’s a perfect example.

Courage

Ah yeah, went back and checked the Japanese and I did mishear that line, my bad lol. Interestingly though, in the manga Robin only says “it can't be” — the following line about “those kids” was added by the anime, which One Pace can't really cut around. I think that addition gives a slightly misleading impression of how Robin generally views the crew, since she treats them as fellow crewmates and equals, and Luffy specifically as her captain.

Levy

Amazing reaction as always. Im just a little disappointed that One Pace editors didnt include some details I was looking forward to in this part. For example, the iconic march they always do, when the whole gang walks towards CP9 together as a unit. That was such a cool moment and they skipped it! I know its literally just a few seconds of screentime, but it was very impactful to me. Other than that one sting to the heart , I really love the pace you guys are going!

Gelondil

You can hear it in the voice that Young Robin's VA is a child - She was about 13 when these episodes were recorded. Between the story, the voice, and the way Oda draws Young Robin, this backstory hits so much harder than all the others so far. It hurts so much to watch, I just want to jump through the screen and save her. I hope Sogeking's backstory isn't as tragic, because I can't take any more of these. 😭

Michael H

Yeah, it’s probably not a great comparison since the “valleys” are so different. This arc is busy like you said, but I just find the many side-character fights to drag, personally.

Gelondil

As Wes would say: Blueno got dog-walked by Luffy.

Bilal Rajput

when will you guys upload the demon slayer movie?

uchuu kitsune

Steph asked a good question about what if two share the same devil fruit, according to what I have read, and correct me if I'm wrong, Oda-sensei said once that if two share the same fruit only one gets the power, and the one that gets to digest the fruit first is the one who gets it, so even if you eat it after the other person, if your body digests your share first, then you get the powers of the fruit.

Sanam99

I wish they did one piece more often

James

FYI, many reaction channels are at risk of losing their YT channel due to copyright strikes and these strikes are mostly coming from Remove Your Media presumably on behalf of Viz Media. RYM has also been going into reaction channel's Patreon for copyright strikes on anything related to Viz. For example, not only did Rice and Ginger have their Bleach reactions removed, they had their Hunter x Hunter reactions removed from Patreon as well.

Claude

Excuse me? My goat chopper is a very strong, very cool reindeer. Pd - btw, I know you probably meant it as a joke, sorry if my sarcasm doesn’t quite land (I too, am joking ofc)

Nostalgino MO

robin : i want to die , luffy : we rescue you then you can die , isnt he the best protag , i wish ussop was with us this arc

Xan

Not sure if anyone else said it but Gear 2 is blood circulation in hus body going from normal to 20-50x thats what the springs are to pump blood crazy fast, his organs and veins are all elastic and can take the strain. I think thats oda's logic as if the cells can absorb oxygen/nutrients any faster maybe if the cells are elsastic??
