Glad to see you guys doing some full length movies- since its the same cast that did Spinal Tap, Best in Show, and A Mighty Wind so it won't disappoint- I haven't seen this one- but HAVE watched all the others. Best in Show is hilarious, A Mighty Wind is basically a "60s folk music" mockumentary version of Spinal Tap where three folk groups in the vein of Peter Paul and Mary try to put on a joint concert and Best in Show is a mockumentary version of the American Kennel Club "dog shows" watching different "dog parents" competing to win the dog blue ribbon in different breed categories at Madison Square Garden

yesssss! about to watch. hope you guys liked it, because it's my favorite one. 🤞 see you on the other side!

so glad you liked it! like i said above, definitely my favorite. i probably find it the most relatable, having been a theater kid in small-town missouri during the mid-to-late 90s. this movie is infinitely quotable, and i frequently use lines from it in my daily life (for example, "i just hate you, and i hate your ass-face!" or "boring! boring!" "hub bub, hub bub!" or "just drive in, get a coke" "i knew he was funny, but his dramatical work . . ." or "everybody dance!"). one friend and i will randomly start singing "penny for your thoughts" to each other - complete with awkward swan squats at the end (100% more awkward for me now, post-back surgery). i went to a screening last summer and someone brought a stool that got passed around the audience during "stool boom" (genius!). after the show, my friend and i apologized to the couple in front of us for obnoxiously saying our favorite lines when they came around (including steve's excited "corky!!!" after the play) - they were very understanding about it, also being big fans. i'll be interested to hear how y'all think this one stacks up after you've watched all three. 🙂

The fact that you have committed to the Guest filmography journey has driven me to finally bite the bullet and buy digital copies of each film (well, save for Mascots, which is on Netflix). I have owned DVDs of the original three (Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) for 20 years, but don't have a way to play 'em at the moment. And I'm not going to wait till I remedy that, to see you both enjoy these absolute masterpieces. I truly cannot choose a favorite among them. Simply brilliant pieces of grounded absurdity (and yes, while the basic stories are outlined, the vast majority of the dialogue is improvised) featuring the most phenomenal roster of performers in modern cinema (just wait till you see the legends that join the ranks along the way). I won't give any spoilers, because you deserve to enjoy it all completely fresh. I'll just say that if you loved the music in this (seriously, the musicianship in each Guest film is on point), you may love A Mighty Wind as much as we do in my household. The music from that soundtrack has been living in my heart and soul since I first saw the movie in the theater as a teenager. My own kids have grown up listening to, and loving it all, just as much. You really cannot sleep on the musical prowess, technical skills, and fantastic lyricism of Guest, Levy, Shearer, McKean, and Annette O'Toole (McKean's wife and co-writer). One more note, if you haven't already done so, please watch (and react to? if possible?) the deleted scenes from Waiting for Guffman. This is one of those rare and beautiful cases where what hit the cutting room floor is as good as any single moment that remained in the final edit. It's the nature of the beast, having so many otherworldly improvisational geniuses just going off, that there is an almost endless supply of comedic gold--and honestly, so much heart and pathos--from which to piece together a cohesive and effectively executed story. Great moments will be lost along the way. Fortunately, Guest was kind enough to ensure that at least some of those scenes, lived on for us to enjoy on the side. Highly recommend seeking these out for each film, but the Guffman scenes are truly next level. I found your channel when you began reacting to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and was thrilled to be able to follow your journey. I think you'll understand why I'm just as thrilled today. Oh, and one last note: I *do* recommend watching For Your Consideration, and even Mascots after that. While neither are as transcendent as the Guffman-Best-Mighty trio (and are a bit...darker?) I genuinely enjoy each for the unique gems they are. Catherine in For Your Consideration...my god. Worth it for her performance alone.

SOLD. We will watch that on our own time. I loved this movie so freaking much and the fact that it's chock full of familiar faces makes it feel so comfortable. I can see myself re watching this when I'm sick or it's just a rainy day. Guest is a legend. This one felt so much like Schitt's Creek I'm sure it was in the back of their minds when writing it.

As a director who has worked a lot in local theatre, this movie has a special place in my heart. It’s become kind of a shorthand verb in my community (five theatres within twenty miles of each other, we all work pretty closely) - to Guffman (or guff) is to lose perspective, to forget why you’re doing what you’re doing, to make the show about your ambition instead of about telling the story.

I was a theater major for one semester in college and I'm really bummed that I'm only discovering this now. I would have been obsessed with it. I'm going to rewatch this so so many times

This is the worst Patreon I have seen so far. Look, I don't want to sync up shows with reactions. What's the point? The stuff I want to see reactions to are shows I have already watched. I subscribed because I wanted the uncut version of what I saw on YouTube. If you take away the ability to just fast forward to sections I am interested in, your reactions become useless to me. At this point, this feels like a straight up downgrade from YouTube content.

What streaming service is this movie on, if any?

Youtalkingtome

It is a violation of copyright law to share the entire A/V of someone else's property. We can do it on YouTube precisely because we only show clips, which is acceptable by Fair Use law.

Youtalkingtome

The only place we could find it for free is on Tubi. We rented it for $3.79 on Amazon Prime for the reaction.

Since Good Friday is in two weeks time, can I suggest a brief interlude in your Guest odyssey and recommend The Long Good Friday if you guys haven't seen it, brilliant film with an absolutely stacked cast. It's currently available on MAX.

Chris

@george Every patreon channel has to do this. Where are you watching uncut work on patreon?

Shawn Looney

Wonderful! Extra bonus if you can find the deleted scenes from this movie. A whole extra musical number AND more auditions. Several actors did more than one and they came up with their auditions themselves.

Sarah P

In that case, you haven’t seen ANY other reactions that weren’t on YouTube. This is how ALL reactions work. They don’t make copyright laws magically disappear. Your comment is very, very strange and uninformed.

I actually found a Remains of the Day lunchbox. I think it was on Etsy. LOL

This movie was required watching for my college theatre department - almost a sacred 'text' 😂

For quotes my favorite is, "You're just bastard people! And I'm goin' home and I'm gonna... I'm gonna BITE MY PILLOW, is what I'm gonna do!"
