i know paul dano first from l.i.e. (2001) - also starring brian cox - although I can't remember if i actually watched it or just saw the cover on the new releases wall every day. (i watched a LOT of movies in 11 months (yay, free rentals), so it's hard to say.)

Independent movies were/are such a gem. Around when I was really getting into movies in my teens I was introduced to the great ones from the late 90s. I have always had the philosophy that if a trailer has three or more explosions in it than I wouldn’t like it as they probably spent way too much on the special effects. That philosophy has stood me in fairly good stead. The other “rule” of mine that still hold on to is “if I have to say ‘I’m just kidding’ three or more times on a date it’s not going to work out.” Great movie here, tackling difficult and heartbreaking topics with realism and family.

Also, as you guys mentioned Steve Carell and his top dramatic chops, I can’t recommend enough the limited series in Hulu called “The Patient” which is him and Dohmnall Gleeson in two of the best performances ever.

It's absolutely illegal....interfering with a corpse, removal of a corpse without proper authorization, abuse of a corpse....transportation across state lines....etc.

The cinematography in this seems like a major precursor to all of the brilliant, open sky shots of Breaking Bad.

The one that has always driven me CRAZY is shows like Friday Night Tykes where they have 8-12 year olds playing full contact football, getting concussions, and then wondering why they can't past 4th grade algebra! That is straight child abuse to me.

Also have to absolutely recommend the Greg Kinnear, Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt (two Oscar wins and one nomination for all three) in As Good As It Gets. I know you have your lists, but I have hope you guys will watch it one day.

I've never seen that. I played full contact from 4th grade through High School. Obviously there are some parents that are just down right toxic. A lot of them do their best to create a safe environment for kids.
