Hello, friends! We will be watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Friday. Next week, we want to check out a cult movie from the list. Feel free to vote for as many as you'd like, and as always, make suggestions in the comments for future films!

If somehow it ends up being Donnie Darko resist the urge to watch one of the alternate cuts of it, you should see the original cut first time.

Youtalkingtome

Thanks! We try to stick to theatrical cuts (it seems to be the one viewers generally have the easiest access to), unless there is a massive consensus that a later cut REALLY outdoes it (like in the case of Bladerunner).

The Breakfast Club seems to have quite the "cult" following.

Can't Hardly Wait (1998) Blast from the Past (1999) The Replacements (2000) The Italian Job (2003) S.W.A.T. (2003) Begin Again (2013) What We Do in the Shadows (2014) Sing Street (2016)

Also, if it is Donnie Darko, there is a great episode of "Anatomy of a Scene" from the Sundance Channel where they dissect an iconic scene from the movie and dig into the design, cinematography, direction, etc. It's a very good watch for film buffs after seeing the film. I say thus and then don't even know if you can stream them anywhere...

Yeah, DD is one of those movies that you maybe even need to watch more than one time let alone want to, and there are cuts and explainers that are worth seeing. One day I hope Southland Tales gets the respect and cult status it deserves, the studio trashed it but there is a proper cut of it you can see where it makes sense (the Cannes Film Festival cut) that very few people have seen, but you need the books to go with it which I own - I have a lot of TV and movie memorabilia and that's probably my most prized and least monetarily valuable of it all. Why am I mentioning it? Donnie Darko is the movie that made Richard Kelly famous - Southland Tales is the one that ended his career, he hasn't written anything in the 15 years since. It's all become just that little bit too real since it was made, too.

Laura Room

Damn you for putting Labyrinth in the same poll as The Breakfast Club lol

Hi guys, love your content and thank y’all for your time and thoughts! Just out of curiosity, have y’all watched “Clue”? I was just speaking to a coworker the other day and didn’t realize it was a forgotten classic. (Y’all may have mentioned seeing it before and I’m just forgetting)

Youtalkingtome

No joke: my mother would not let me watch Clue when I was a kid because she thought it was too scary. It's a comedy, right? We should watch it.

Laura Room

It's pretty great, but I had to go with The Breakfast Club. It's a rite of passage. A few moments that haven't aged great/ would be different if filmed today, but an important film

Peggy G

For some reason, my 1st instinct was to hope that Pump Up The Volume was an option on the poll. 🤷‍♀️

Cristy

You should definitely watch Clue when you get time, it is a classic!

Cristy

The Italian Job remake is great, such a stacked cast too.

Kristi Govertsen

I second Clue, and would add the following for your consideration on a future cult classics poll: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Grosse Pointe Blank Better Off Dead Romy and Michele's High School Reunion Kiss Kiss Bang Bang The Truman Show Real Genius Drop Dead Gorgeous Four Weddings and a Funeral When Harry Met Sally Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (followed immediately by watching the complete sung-through musical commentary by the DHSAB’s cast and crew). Zoolander Foul Play Toys (with Robin Williams, LL Cool J, Joan Cusak, Robin Wright) Death to Smoochy Although, with your encyclopedic knowledge of movies, I imagine both of you have seen most of these already.🙂

Gary Cole is a FUCKING champ!!! Plays serious, plays comedic, plays farcical....always in cartoon shows you don't even notice him in - Family Guy, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers. The man is an absolute dynamo.

JVTrickypants

My sincere apologies for my idiocy, but come on, you've got to be even slightly expecting that....but where is the list of cult movies to choose from?

Ciarán Carr

Buckaroo Banzai is one of the most absolutely batshit films I've ever seen, while also being quite good. I need to see someone else watch it.

Youtalkingtome

I just googled popular cult movies and looked through the list on the top result. Apologies, I should have paid attention to who made the list.

Youtalkingtome

Honestly, many of the movies we talk about, we haven't actually sat down and watched (like Breakfast Club). We just know what they are from their significance in the culture (I definitely have heard the line "You mess with the Bull, you get the horns" from BC). I actually haven't seen many of the films on your list.

Peggy G

Yeah. I'm not sure it qualifies as a cult classic, but it's what came to mind.

Kristi Govertsen

Oh goodness, The Breakfast Club is great, and you should definitely watch it on this channel. Please don’t take my (way too long) list as a criticism. The list on your poll is awesome, and you should ABSOLUTELY watch every single one of those movies🙂. My (way too long) list is just me getting excitedly nerdy about the wide variety of cult movies that exist in the world 🤣. It is neither here nor there whether you consider anything on my (way too long) list—I am, and shall remain, a fan of you guys regardless🙂. I’m also excitedly nerdy about watching your reaction to The Breakfast Club or whatever movie wins this poll!

Cheryl S.

Super tough choice between darko and labrynth but went with labrynth

Actuarial Lurker

Everyone needs to watch the Breakfast Club at least once....given the whole Brat Pack thing with all the other John Hughes films of the 1980s

Roland Cooke

Oh and another vote for Clue. 😀

Roland Cooke

Series starts on Apple+ on July 24th, trailer has just dropped. The trailer is spoilery for the (must-watch!) movie in the sense that it gives the premise away which is better experienced blind for its WTF-ness, but ultimately won't do too much harm either way.
