"The Great Festive Baking Show": The One with the cast of Derry Girls

Yay! That was really cute.

Here are a couple of suggestions to replace Derry Girls: - Resident Aliens - Haunting of Hill House

Maxxie

I think they usually try to replace shows with similar ones, so for Derry Girls they'll be looking for a comedy rather than horror or sci-fi.

so, the thing where they told siobhan "nice try" - the male judge is paul hollywood, and in the regular series, when a baker particularly impresses him, he offers what came to be known as "the hollywood handshake." so, when she put out her hand . . . . also, speaking of 2020, in case no one has shared it before - the actresses who play erin and orla were living together at the time and made a lockdown video in character: https://youtu.be/aSJPNvVhH8Y?si=U8NTkxMPVsVl7aTH

Ugh I LOVE Bake Off. The host here with the dark hair is Noel Fielding. He was on a British comedy show called the IT Crowd that I think you guys would like also. It has Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade, and Katherine Párkinson.

I have seen Bly Manor, and I agree, we should find time in the schedule for Hill House. I do enjoy Mike Flanagan's work.

As you finish one comedy from across the pond, please consider this my big, impassioned plea (for any point in the future) for you to check out Taskmaster. *I am putting in a petition for you to watch the first series of Taskmaster as a “miniseries”-esque commitment, while you’re doing this run of miniseries. It’s only 5 episodes. * If you casually enjoyed the energy of THIS show . . . imagine a high-octane version of that where the contestants are equally if not more charming, but the challenges can be literally anything. While the format stands a bit apart from your usual fare, I think the comedy would be right up your guys’ street! (It’s become a British institution and popular global phenomenon for a reason!) Premise: Each season, 5 comedians are filmed doing a series of “tasks”, ranging from simple ideas, to puzzles, weird obstacle courses, and creative challenges. (“Don’t blink — longest wins”, “paint the best picture of a horse . . . whilst riding a horse”, “get this big, fake boulder as far away as possible in an hour”, “make this Swedish person blush”, etc.) Then, they gather to see everyone’s attempts in front of a studio audience — and to be judged by Greg the Taskmaster, with his Igor-esque Assistant, Little Alex Horne. You’ve already seen a few comedians who’ve been on the show. Nick Mohammed (Nate in Ted Lasso) just did a series, as has Ardal O’Hanlan (Cousin Eamon in Derry Girls) and Noel Fielding (the male presenter in this episode, who famously kind of looks like a crow?). Nicola Coughlan (Claire in Derry Girls) is a BIG Taskmaster fan and did a New Year’s Special episode. Not only is this a fantastic show in its own right, it’s also a gateway to finding other British things that you might like. It is also **MADE FREE TO WATCH ON YOUTUBE IN THE USA**, and available on a lot of various platforms in other countries for your other non-USA subscribers. Because of the type of show this is, you could absolutely take your time with it and, and do a series whenever you feel like it/have a slot to fit it in.🤷🏻‍♀️ Here’s 2 clips they’ve put up from Ardal O’Hanlan’s series, to give you the vibe. (I promise it’s OK to watch — there’s nothing to get “spoiled” about.) A task: https://youtu.be/lr9dW6qFxuc?si=V5XLGVBqVY_7Ulb7 Another task, but only Ardal’s attempt at it: https://youtu.be/Cm3hs7v4RxE?si=uYnwvwgCEyMbf5FX

PLEASE check out the links and consider it. It’s really up your alley in terms of things I think you’d enjoy.

Did I miss where this episode can be located?

Roland Cooke

Hmm, looks like Netflix, but I'm traveling so probably region-blocked or something.

Won't be able to watch this until I get back to the USA, but in the meantime here's a couple of crackers to be getting on with.: Jimmy Carr - Irish politics: https://youtu.be/kKwZM8TDEa0?si=6YrPP9zFKvwoZQHa Steve Coogan's always-trainwrecky talk show host Alan Partridge meets an Irish farmer: https://youtu.be/lEjEGbAFzJU?si=fUMuVZmziqC1-yiR https://youtu.be/lEjEGbAFzJU?si=fUMuVZmziqC1-yiR As the interview goes wildly off the rails, the song mashes up (incendiary!) lyrics from these originals: 1) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_Out,_Ye_Black_and_Tans 2) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Men_Behind_the_Wire

My mother sent these links to the large number of Martin Brennans in our family! 🤣
